Are they better than Union? You don't need to be a powerhouse to beat Maine anymore. You just need to have twenty players on skates.

Do you think we could beat American?

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

This comment is just one of many that confirms for me that Whitehead does not know how to coach a goalie. That might be one of the top reasons that Shawn was so successful. He not only knew the goalie position because he played that position, but he had a goalie coach who also knew the position.

I know many don't feel Whitehead knows how to coach at all, but... if you can't coach the goalies then there's no one to stop the puck consistently. This year it looks like we might have a couple of good goal scorers. Still, the goalies can't be giving up 5 and 6 goals per game and expect to win.

As an aside from the whole goalie situation, I wish there was a way to see how Corkum would function in practice and behind the bench if he were given a chance. Maybe, if king James is not willing to cut timmay loose, he could give him a week off with pay and take a look at how Corkum would do with the team. I know I'm dreaming here, but I sure would like to see it.
After this weekends result and the last couple of years results, Timmay should resign effective Monday morning. He's obviously not the man for the job and he's turned Maine into the laughing stock of Hockey East. A once proud and powerful program has become Lake Superior East! Just terrible!!

Dont underestimate UNION.
very good program and is better then many people might think. Strong recruiting and coaching is very good.

Yeah so is bentley right?

so, I gotta ask.
when Clarkson, Colgate, Brown, Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard and Quinnipiac all kick Unions A5S this season, it will ONLY because they did not underestimate Union? and Maine got swept because Maine underestimated them?

Just asking.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I think his point was that expecting Maine to just walk all over Union simply because they're Union was misunderestimating them.

And maybe Union is indeed a pretty good team. Still, not a team that should be sweeping Maine. Well, the old Maine. TIMMAY's Maine, I guess so.

The old Maine wins each game 10-0 anyway

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Guys, Union is not a bad hockey team. They looked great out there both nights this weekend. A lot of you will be surprised with our season. Give us some credit.

Last year, this team was one bad period away from beating Princeton, a top 10 team in the nation, in a best of 3 playoff series. This program has taken major strides over the last few years and I'm really hoping that this is the year we break out.

To be fair to you guys though, I know it must be disappointing to see this current Maine team play. I obviously don't follow Maine hockey too closely but I know they have been to the frozen four six out of the last ten years. What happened? (Also, with your starting goalie, this series probably would have been closer. Wilson was terrible)

Well said UHM. If they had bothered to glance at U's roster, they would have seen that Leaman has quietly been reeling in some very nice recruits...

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Mrs. UR asked at lunch if Maine had started playing hockey yet.

"Not yet," was my reply.

Just like this is not Walsh's maine teams of old, this is not Unions teams of years gone by.

Several of the teams the knowitall guy mentioned who will kick unio's *** wont in fact kick it.
this is a very goo team with exceptional coaching. very good recruiting as well
They won because they are a better team.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Yes I am a Union fan and while it might be nice if Maine's fans could be a bit more gracious in defeat, I am not that surprised. Union has to earn the respect of the college hockey world by achieving some post season success. Maine has done that and has a storied past, which unfortunately for them seems to be getting more distant in the rear view mirror. I think and hope that Union's program could well be on the ascent and as a fan I am truly excited, but until they have the results to back it up, respect from the college hockey community will be grudgingly gained at best, as it should be.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Union has a great team but if you look at the title of this thread its about MAine not Union. If you want to talk about the games, make a Union Maine thread and chat away.

In other words....."don't try to make any sense here. I see Utopiah and the grass is greener on the other side!"

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Onion fanz should not get their panties all bunched up here. I saw them play last year and they have a solid team. What you witness here with the Maine fanz is not so much lack of respect as it is disgust and disdain for the way their own team is playing right now. Sure, the season is young, but we've seen this disaster clip play over and over again for the past few years. Next stage for Maine is to watch what many have said is a good freshman class start to play sloppy and lethargic....been there, seen that.

Anyway, from this Mainuh, good luck to you guys. At least your coach has some ties to the best there was.

And wonder why he can get them, but TIMMAY can't, even though he has scholarships to offer.

Or maybe TIMMAY just isn't looking at the right kind of players?
