Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

. The most concerning is Maine had 8 PP's to 1 and lost the game 4-1 .

Dee really had more ice time than Nyquist on the PP? If so thats amazing, Dee must be the new Keenan( except Keenan could score ), we'll know for sure if he moves him to the point;)

Then Dee can fail to keep it in the zone which leads to more chances for the opponent. Timmay has his favorites that's for sure.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Well another opener with lil timmay and another loss!! At least he is consistent and continues to run the program into the ground.
If any of you watched the moive "hangover", I think timmay matches up will with ted the wolf pack of one guy!!! Like he said he is a re-tard..... :)
Let's see if we can win another game with the "play to not lose" philopshy and crappy goaltending. I wonder if timmay can install the game plan to get 0 shots on goal per period and hope for the other team to score on itself....brilliant timmay says!!! Glad to see nothing has changed over the summer.l Thank you timmay....

While last night's video feed was not fantastic, I see a log of improvement in Dee. A couple times last night, I saw a really fast, very good stick handler and had to wonder why Marshall was taller and so much better with the puck. Dee now wears number 7.

What is it you want from Dee? He play on a team "coached" by a guy who does not seem to understand WHY passing might be a good thing, so there is never any passing.

He also plays for a coach who does not seem to understand what a set play is, why someone needs to go to the front of the net and how to take advantage of what the opposition is giving.

Last night, Union showed that they were going to pressure the puck when short handed. Tim responded with NO CHANGES WHAT SO EVER. Tim told his 5 pawns where to stand, and they stood there. If they had criss crossed like Teddy and Lundin or Teddy and Levs did a few years ago, they would have crossed up the Union short handed unit and Maine might have gotten a shot off. If they had cycled the puck down low, also to get the Union defenders moving and not knowing EXACTLY WHO WAS GOING TO SHOOT the puck, then Maine might have gotten some shots on the PP.

Once again, this is a team of individuals, all trying to do it all by themselves because they are not taught how to play together.

Tonight, the lines will be thoroughly mixed up, further frustrating the players' ability to gel and learn to play together.

TIM, STOP SENDING ALL 3 FORWARDS INTO THE CORNERS TO GET THE PUCK. Someone has to stay out front of UNION'S goal IN CASE MAINE GETS THE PUCK, THE GUY OUT FRONT CAN SCORE. And if Union gets the puck, that guy can help prevent ANOTHER ODD MAN RUSH, like the 2 Union scored on last night.

TIM if the puck is in front of Wilson, you gotta stop teaching pu5sy hockey (THE PLAYERS' TERM, NOT MINE), and tell the D that they have got to clean out the crease. GET THE PUCK OUT and TEACH THE OPPONENTS THAT THEY WILL BE PUNISHED FOR BEING THERE.

Banwell plays a very physical game, that kid is STRONG. I have to think that he will be benched for it, until he learns the Whitehead-Lundin-Pokecheck-style.
Last, Liedermark showed that we were all wrong about Mushaluk.

I was thinking of starting a Maine, REGULAR SEASON thread, as this one is entitled OFF SEASON.

but it really still is the off season for Maine hockey isn't it? As long as they keep "playing hockey" like this.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I want him to score 50 goals:p . Be nice if he'd throw that 6 ft 3 in body around alittle also. I though he looked faster in the blue white game also.

He was on the doorstep twice last night with the puck on his stick and nothing but net and he blew both chances. If he could bury one of them that would take care of my want.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Unlike a lot folks on here, I'm not ready to bury this team after one game. I certainly don't claim to be a hockey expert (however, based on some of the comments I've seen on here over the years, I know I'm not alone), but I saw a lot of positive things last night. Most of the freshmen showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately, it looks like it may take a few games before they really start to gel as a team offensively. I would expect to see several line changes in the early stages in order to get a sense of what combinations work best.

The suspensions hurt us last night as did House's injury. In addition, Union looked a lot better then I remember them last year and their goalie is very sound. It's a shame they tied it so quickly after Maine took the lead (from where I was it looked like Wilson was screened and never saw the shot) as any momentum we might have had was quickly erased. The second and third goals were the results of misplays and never should have happened.

I anticipate a much better game tonight and am optimistic of pulling out a win. If not, I know that this team has the potential of eventually getting it all together and I'll be behind them all the way.

I as well am not ready to write this team off yet. I was at the game last night as well and saw some good things to be encouraged about. The Freshman as a whole accounted themselves well in their first college game. I was very impressed with Cornell, I thought he played with a lot of poise and moved the puck out of the zone well he's a keeper. Yes; Maine did have a lot of power play chances and only finished on one but I think they have more people capable of scoring on the PP this year than last. I think once the lines are more set and the guys have played together they will be alright.
As for Wilson, I don't know what else to say except he doesn't have any confidence in himself and until (if) he does he MUST sit. This was a 1-1 game and Maine was outshooting Union until "willie" let in the 2nd goal on a very bad decision by him. This goal took a lot of wind out of the Maine team. Union didn't have that many "quality" chances for "willie" to stop but the one's they had he couldn't stop. Oh for the days of Jimmy Howard to keep his team in a close game. Tanner House was sitting next to me at the game and was hobbling down the stairs so I don;t expect him back anytime soon.
GO MAINE

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

A buddy of mine call after attending the game and said "Maine stunk up the house." I didn't go but listened on the radio and the guy doing the play(?) by play(?) stunk even worse. He was just awful.

Oh, for the record my buddy is going to the unh vs. RPI game tonight rather than sit through another evening of that.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I was going to ask the question, but it seems it's already been answered. There are still some people here who are optimistic that this season will be any better than last. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

You know Wilson's not the answer in net, so why not give the new kid the whole weekend? Maybe, just once, it might do some good for the coach to show he's got some confidence in someone. But now Wilson's stunk up the house, so no confidence boost for him, and now Sirman gets the coach's nod by default(I'm assuming). That's sure the way to light a fire under him.

And once again, we have a game where Maine gets a goal, only to turn right around and give it back. Timmay probably gave his patented "sit on the lead and don't exert too much energy" speech instead of telling them not to let up, and go right out there and put the pressure on to get another one.

I can take seasone where Maine loses to BC, BU, UNH, Minnie, North Dakota and the rest. But Union is a team that you should beat. When you start losing to the teams that you're expected to beat, there's not a lot there to cheer about. Or, as my friend said today, maybe Maine's not supposed to beat teams like Union now.

Thank you for that TIMMAY. Now, resign. Give the team to Corkum, and let's see if he can right this sinking ship.

Gonna be a long season.

I think that your friend hit the nail on the head.......Maine is NOT favored over a decent Union team at home. The days of Maine rolling into town and sweeping bad to mediocre teams IS OVER. They ARE that same type of team now.

I never thought that the Lake Superior State comparisons would come to fruition, but we are just about there. :( The only difference, is I KNOW that this can be a winning program again and still be a player on the national scene.......but definitely not under the current "coach".

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Only one word to describe the 1st period TORTURE. Absolutely zero offensive chances. Defense played okay but Union took advantage of what they were given. Does anybody remember when any player who wore the jersey played with a sense of pride. Even a player who was short on talent would still play his butt off. This is sickening.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

4-Zip in the 2nd period......call in the dogs the hunt is over, if there was ever a hunt at all.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

4-1 after 2 :(

If the mid level ECAC teams, that don't offer scholerships for their players, are running us out of town after 2 periods. I can hardly wait for Hockey East play to start.

What an awful weekend for UMH! What a waste of money for all who went!

I fully expected to see Sirman tonight, but now I'm convinced that Whitehead has little faith in him. Maybe I'm being too harsh but why not put him in and give him a vote of confidence unless you don't have any in him.

I would say that Sirman went only because Darling couldn't. I expect to see Soctty in the net next weekend-maybe he'll be on his game and will keep the game close.

Apart from the late power play goal for Union, Maine did put a little life in their game near the end. This team has a long way to go to be any kind of middle of the road Hockey East team. There are glimpses though that they have some guys who will be fun to watch!

I'm at least optimistic about that!
