Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

So after the train wreck this weekend Wilson's career road numbers look like this 0-11-0 4.19 gaa .858 sv%. It seems absolutely ridiculous that Sirman didn't get the start tonight if nothing else to see what he's got which I find it hard to believe would be worse than what Wilson has shown in 3+ years.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

What an awful weekend for UMH! What a waste of money for all who went!

This may be the absolute bottom for the program. I cannot ever remember losing 2 games in a row to a team like Union. I don't want to take anything away from the Union team as they really played well and took advantage of each opportunity that they were given. I recall a couple of games at Merrimack where Maine lost both in a weekend set, but I think this may be worse. I feel sorry for the folks who drove all the way from Maine to see this debacle. I have tried for 2 seasons to put on a positive spin and give the coaching staff a chance to reload the talent pool. This is now season #3 and the handwriting is on the wall.

I do see signs of excitement from some of the freshman, but we need somebody to help them develop. I don't believe they can do it on their own.

Flying up for homecoming next weekend, but after making the trip to Union this weekend hoping for a sweep I would be happy if the Bears simply keep the games close next weekend. Let's hope Darling stands on his head.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

yup-- its still offseason. and its the bottom.

we have some ability in our sophomore and frosh classes. In other words, we do have something to build on . . .

so do about 40 other programs in college hockey.

Anyone who has the time to post and does not take the time to write to Kennedy and the AD (James) is a clown. I will be writing Sunday, in the mail AM Monday.

I hate losing--but I can live with it if we are improving or working hard. Is your program rising or declining? That is the question. Ours is declining and the talent needs to be nurtured by new voices.

I am done with restraint. I am done with niceties and waiting--Union is a lower rung team that was scheduled to offer us two wins while they got a marquee team in their building. This is sh*t. I will be writing a number of extremely nasty letters Monday morning-- we have an AD who spent the summer trying to leave and a coach who is running a program as if tyrancy will make up for lack of talent.

We have some talent-- we need motivation, momentum and an improved morale. The current regime is not capable of providing same. they are done-- I am more than happy to provide the fork. mbb

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Maine hasn't been this bad since Shawn's early years, and the few that preceded his reign. The Whitehead regime has truly flushed Maine hockey down the toilet, but, unlike Walsh,Tim started out with a full deck.He has failed miserably with his own guys, and his own system. He needs to go out to pasture in D-3 somewhere.

(Coincidentally, there is an insane whip-cracker here in Utica that would be a nice fit in Maine.Gary Heenan. He's too intense for my local D-3 team, but he'd be a good fit at Maine,as would Tim at Utica...Swap 'em out,and everyone's happy.)

How bad is Sirman, that he didn't even get a look tonight,FCS?I thought Maine's big recruiting priority was in goal..?

My only cold comfort at Union this evening was watching Shemansky. That kid has hands, and he's a gamer.Matter of fact, the only players that I noticed in a positive light were Corkum recruits from NH.Why is UMO still paying Tim?

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I just hope that someday soon, we can start fresh and let the Whitehead Era just fade from our minds. It really has been a dismal failure. It's hard to believe that this dud was so close to winning 2 National Championships!

Right on...UM HKy needs a coach that is a worker...24/7...pride in his work...as far as Sirman,he's a project..but with that he should have started or at least came in at the start of the 3rd period....Shemansky is a keeper...like you said a gamer with heart,a player that seems the puck finds him.....the time is NOW to push that Whitehead is NO MORE after this season............. Sirman was awful in the Blue White, based on that game I'd have gone with Willie also.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

How many more of these types of weekends are in store for Maine in the future? Who does Maine have to get swept by for James to realize how mediocre the hockey program has become? What will Michigan State do to Maine if they just got beaten soundly by Union?

Being down 4-1 after two, why not put Sirman in then. Atleast give him a look of a real game. See if he can step up his game.

I wonder if Whitehead played Wilson in hope he would get a road win to get the monkey off his back. Then I wonder if Whitehead cares, win or lose.

.

My guess would be Timmay doesn't think he could help the team, again from what I saw I agree. Tim cares, he just can't do anything about it. You think he wants to lose his job?

Wasn't Michigan state worse than Maine last year, not sure why everyone thinks Michigan state is a powerhouse. Reputation is everything, I guess

The point is that Whitehead does not want to lose games or his job...but what he's doing isn't winning games or making a case for getting a job extension....he's run his game and it's time for changes...plain & simple...will it happen? Who knows...better yet who CARES? You'd be surprise ALOT do.....

Union just kicked our ***** so there is no reason to think Michigan State won't. They may have had a bad season last year but they still don't have TIMMAY coaching them. That's gives them an advantage right from the start.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I got back late last night from the game and didn't feel like posting. Some of my thoughts. Wilson was awful. You really have to wonder what grant saw in him. He's looked terrible from day one and I haven't seen much noticeable improvement. Pryor was also awful last night. Every time he was on the ice Union looked like they were going to score. I see in the box score he was a -3, tied with liedermark for the worst on the team. Liedermark doesn't have the pace about him right now to be playing. Hopefully he can become the next Soares and find it but he shouldn't be playing right now.

With the negatives out of the way, I liked a lot of stuff I saw. I was extremely impressed with shemansky, beattie, and diamond. I think beattie will be the best of the lot in time. Flynn looked like he has gotten better from last year. It seemed like when Maine had problems a lot of it was just not having the chemistry, which is to be expected the first weekend of the year. Overall I was actually pretty satisfied with what I saw. This is the first year in awhile where maine has had more than two or three good offensive players. People on here are going to be down on this weekend, but for me last night came down to wilson and pryor playing poorly or maine probably would've gotten the result. I think from the providence game to thanksgiving will really tell us how maine is going to do this year.

To answer one of your questions...Wilson was brought in at the last minute to replace Matt Lundin who decided to go back to the USHL and then hook on to another Div.1 school..{Mercyhurst}..so that he could get a chance at playing...his years at Maine was that Jimmy Howard then Ben Bishop were in front of him and Whitehead did not see fit to play him...which in turn for a kid that wanted to always play for UMaine was a bitter pill to take.......

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I find it hard to believe would be worse than what Wilson has shown in 3+ years.

Yep. Even if he sucks, what's the diff? And just maybe, he might surprise a few people.

But how long before that gets beaten out of them due to a combo of TIMMAY's mind games and lousy coaching, and the constant losing?

This comment is just one of many that confirms for me that Whitehead does not know how to coach a goalie. That might be one of the top reasons that Shawn was so successful. He not only knew the goalie position because he played that position, but he had a goalie coach who also knew the position.

I know many don't feel Whitehead knows how to coach at all, but... if you can't coach the goalies then there's no one to stop the puck consistently. This year it looks like we might have a couple of good goal scorers. Still, the goalies can't be giving up 5 and 6 goals per game and expect to win.

As an aside from the whole goalie situation, I wish there was a way to see how Corkum would function in practice and behind the bench if he were given a chance. Maybe, if king James is not willing to cut timmay loose, he could give him a week off with pay and take a look at how Corkum would do with the team. I know I'm dreaming here, but I sure would like to see it.

Are they better than Union? You don't need to be a powerhouse to beat Maine anymore. You just need to have twenty players on skates.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Dont underestimate UNION.
very good program and is better then many people might think. Strong recruiting and coaching is very good.
