Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

A beautiful cool, crisp autumn morning in Maine and I see this thread has been relegated to the cesspool.

Skip this season, chitcan this thread and start the 2010-2011 Maine Season Thread (The Final Stand).:)

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I wonder if King James has ever heard of the LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURNS.($$$$)

see, you're not thinking big picture.

in 2 more years the team will have absolutely NO ability to recruit anyone who played in the USHL, or anyone who played in the EJ... Maine will have to go with Empire players and Maine HS "superstars". So there will be no need to buy plane tickets for Danny and Corky nor a reason to sell all those season tickets. (and if Maine plays its cards right, it can get some more superstar baseball scholarship players to take a spot on the hockey roster, thereby saving even more money, a wonderful idea in a rebuilding year, to use an untalented senior and not give ice time to freshmen who might develop.)

also, since the players will be of the calibre mentioned, there will be no need to bring in a coach who knows a heck of a lot more than or has more experience than a Maine HS coach. He will only have no need to earn more than a Penobscot County living wage.... about $27,000.

There is one word that is the reason Maine hockey is on the decline.

I think most of us would be happy to live with decline. It was inevitable.

It's the circling the drain that we have a problem with. :)

“I was very disappointed with how we came out for the start of the game,” said Whitehead, whose Bears wound up losing 6-3 as Union completed the weekend sweep. “There’s no excuse, after getting beaten the previous night (4-1), to come out flat. I was very surprised. From the first whistle to the last, you have to go all out.

“This won’t happen again,” he insisted.

Love this quote, it will never happen again. I declare BS, it will happen again this weekend

Michigan State had a nightmare year last year for a great many reasons - injuries, suspensions, lack of chemistry, lack of size, lack of offense among them. Not to mention three NHL draft picks - notably Tim Kennedy (Sabres) and Justin Abdelkader (Red Wings) skipping their final year of eligibility.

Don't forget "zero experienced centermen" (3 graduates and 1 defector)

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

granted Whitehead may not be the best option at head coach, it's not his fault his goalie can't block a puck and that the other team outworks his players. The team has to earn the win.

Why do you think I'm Priceless?

Wally just assumes every new Maine fan is us...I mean, me. See BishopFan12 down there? That's me too. Aren't I amazing? But to think you're me, then Wally has to believe that hours after being told a giant tumor was in my skull, the most important thing on my mind was posting as you...err I mean us... It wasn't calling my relatives or asking the doctors a million questions, it was posting as you on USCHO. Isn't he twisted? TF!

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

This is my favorite part:

After a listless first period in which the University of Maine men’s hockey team managed just four shots on net against Union College and found itself trailing 2-0, Black Bears head coach Tim Whitehead’s message was loud and clear.

Sounds fantastic! Now, how'd that second period go?

Second Period
Union-3 Brian Yanovitch (John Simpson, Mario Valery-Trabucco) 7:54
Union-4 Adam Presizniuk (Nolan Julseth-White, Mario Valery-Trabucco) GWG 9:42
Maine-1 Adam Shemansky (Josh Van Dyk, Spencer Abbott) PPG 12:27

Oops. Well, maybe he just meant that they needed to outshoot Union.

Shots on Goal:
Maine 4-12-13-29
Union 8-15-9-32

Oh.

Dont be too hard on Timmay. Keep in mind he's lost Sweetland, Purcel, Bishop, Darling, Swallow, Hegarty, House, Randall, Orsini, Belmore, Perron and Standbrook. Can it be that no one wants to be associated with or play for the guy? :)

Of course its his fault. Who is responsible for developing and motivating the players?

it's happened again, period after period, game after game for the last four years. TIMMAY's finally noticing?

Or maybe he's finally realized that his job depends on getting these guys to play hard and win games. Too bad he's incapable of doing that.

From the first whistle to the last, you have to go all out.

This from the coach, who, after his team got off to a quick 2-0 lead over Michigan St. in the NCAA semis, told his players to not take chances and hold back and conserve their energy. How'd that work out?

Where does he think his players have got the idea that they don't have to play all out? From him, telling them to save their energy when they have leads, from him telling them not to play physically so they won't get penalties, from him telling them to just dump the puck in and then retreat to their own blue line.

Jesus, what a frickin' idiot.

many players leave college for the pros before they are fully developed. In the NHL they get experience and become even better players. Yes, the coach needs to keep the players motivate but the players are the ones who make the saves and score the goals.

The coach is responsible for the results and the results suck it's pretty simple. If this was a real world job and he ran a business the way he's run the hockey team he would have been fired a long time ago.
