Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

They can't keep up?. He like to razzle dazzle and get nothing at times but he will throw a nifty pass and generally his linemates don't have their sticks down to take advantage. I can't figure it out either.

That's why my father seems to think. He's taken in a couple games in person, and his impression is that the rest of the team leaves Nyquist out on an island. Whether it's because they can't keep up or because Nyquist plays outside the system (whatever it is), I don't know. It's hard to tell much from the All Access video. It's a couple steps down from watchmainesports, which was several steps down from being in there in person...

While I have voted no on question one, support equal rights and don't really care what goes on between two consenting adults I don't swing that way. Now if you had suggested Joanna Krupa or Milla Jovovich...

Now that's the spirit, Priceless. You may be a commie, but you have an eye for a good piece of a**. Outstanding.

I think a lot of it is that when he's doing his thing, the other guys just don't know where the puck is gonna end up, whether Nyquist is gonna keep on with it himself, or pass it, and they just can't figure where he's gonna end up passing it to, so they're not there.

it might be better if he'd just tone down the razzle dazzle, and simplify his game a little, so the other guys know what's coming.

Better than being a Fascist redneck. :)

Next time you're out, I suggest you tell a woman she's a good piece of a**. I'm sure she'll take it well.

abb, your compassion, humanity and class are exactly what I expect of Maine fans. Don't worry about exceeding those expectations.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Question for you who actually can see the games....

How do you basically wipe out Vermont yet manage to get swept by Union? Is having Tanner House back that big a difference? Darling?

Inconsistency is such a concern...if this team has the talent to do what it did last night then it needs a leader that can get it out of them every night.

Clearly Timmy is not completely clueless because he's gotten some guys that can play and every now and again he comes up an effort like last night. What changes? What's different from that night and a Union series, etc?

Goaltending and D are the difference . Lots of blocked shots and instead of coughing up a lead 15 secs after they scored, Darling kept the lead. I fully expected Vermont to come back but Darling was good. On the other side, Vermont didn't look that good to me, slow, turned the puck over and Madore wasn't lights out so Maine won. Having more than one line that can score helps also:)

I think the big difference at Union was wilsieve and the team just didn't have any chemistry. This team has talent at every position including goaltender. I think its all about how much they can improve as the season goes on. One thing that I think was proven last night that I said all offseason is that the rest of hockey east is weaker than it was last year. I really don't think a top four finish is out of the question this year.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Seeing things on the tube as they are, I was not overly impressed with UVM either. They did look slow compared to Maine (as hard as that is to believe) and completely out of synch. Maybe some of that was Maine, but I doubt it. That Vermont teams looks to have gone into a pretty deep funk if you ask me. I had suspicions that the Mounted Cats might struggle this year more than many expected.....however I still expected them to handle a pretty hapless Maine team....apparently not at this time of the season. Things likely will be a lot different at Gutterson. They will get better, Maine, based on prior performances, likely will not get a whole lot better.

And contrary to the stock market, past performance of hawkey teams often is a good indicator of future performance. ;)

Its good we have one "glass half full" guy in our fanbase:D . Goaltending is the key, without it any team is sunk. If Darling can get it together Maine will do better than last year, top 4 I don't see it

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Does anyone know if Vermont had 6 players out with the flu? This is what I have been told by a Vermont parent. Have not read it anywheres either though.

According to Larry in the BDN, UVM was without last year's fourth and sixth leading scorers in Justin Milou (foot) and Wahsontiio Stacey (flu).

Yes, every now and then, TIMMAY manages to squeeze very good, often excellent, performances out of his team. Usually, it's when their back is to the wall, and it's a must-win situation for them, as you might consider last night's to be.

Problem is, they rarely last for more than a few games, and then the team falls right back into their old, bad habits: sloppy defense, poor goaltending, half-hearted efforts. For whatever reason, TIMMAY just cannot seem to hold their interest or keep them focused on a long term and consistent basis. Last night, Maine got good to great goaltending, solid defense, and were spirited and aggressive offensively for the most part, all things missing in the Union series.

Larry mentioned something about the flu going through the team in the pre-game, but not sure how many players he said were affected by it. But I think he also mentioned that Maine had a few guys battling through it as well.

Vermont will be fine down the road. For some reason Maine out hustled them last night. It's hard to believe they played so poorly after losing the previous week. Darling won that game for Maine. Vermont is an excellent team in transition as they demonstrated when Maine turned the puck over. Big strong defensemen but probably not as quick as Maine.

Agreed.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Maine definitely outworked UVM. The 10 UVM penalties bear that out. Maine's team speed is much improved. It appears they can put the puck in the net a little bit too. 3 goals a game should win a few more than last year. Now need the goaltending and d to steady. It wouldn't suprise me if they went on a little run. Nor would it if they fell flat or their face. Here's hoping the former is what we get.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

DImmen played well, I'm still waiting for Hegarty to show me how good he can be, he's gonna improve and will be a stud before its over. Last night he played with confidence. Leidermark can't keep up. Dek can though:) The PP needs work

I also think Hegarty played well. Reminds me a bit of Tyler, same number and all. I agree, he will be a force before its over. Like his size. Seems like a tough, scrappy player.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Lowell beat BU 3-2 and Providence beat UMass 2-1 tonight.

No one looks "great" in HE at this point.

Having watched a bunch of top-end WCHA teams this year,I'd say that there's not a great team in the country right now.

The fallout from NHL's recent CBA deal seems to have busted the elite college programs down to the level of the mediocre ones. One needs look no further than last season's NCAA's to notice the upheaval.

Doesn't appear that Maine,nor Minnesota,nor Wisconsin,nor ___ will just be able to "reload" anymore.Maybe it's good for the sport,this parity..?(Except for the "Maine" part?:o)

Screw it,I'm going to be the first to predict a UML national title this season!
