Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Hopefully this year we have game breaking, goal scoring forwards that can put the puck in the net so that there is less pressure on the D to carry most of the play. Why not chip it out or short pass out of our zone. In the event the defense stays more at home taking care of business in their own zone this year, I think in my opinion should lead to winning those one goal games. Last year I thought the defense had more offense impact, or were more relied on than the forwards, but suffered in the defensive zone as was evidenced by the + - record.
Also it would be nice to see more hard shots (slapshots) from the point, as Duffy had success last year with the one timers...........................

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Got my Union tickets for both nights.I'm completely psyched to see my boys, but I'm not harboring any grand expectations.

I've seen Maine play there before, but that was a version of Wally's Your Daddy's Maine Team, way back then.Shawn was still alive and well, and the Union fans I sat with commented repeatedly on how strong Maine was along the boards, and how hard they worked in general. The Bears dominated play much more than the 4-1 final would suggest.

Union is a fairly veteran team this season, and Achilles is a genuine pit.The capacity is listed at 2,300 or so,but that could only happen if every spectator's a** is maybe 10" wide.(Not gonna happen in Upstate NY any more than that is gonna happen in Orono.)

Hockey fans in Schenectady will turn out for this series, and it's going to show us all something.Thing is,I don't know what I really want to see.No doubt,I'll be tooth and nail for Maine, but will a mediocre season just prolong the agony? All you anarchists know what I mean.

Anything but a sweep is a total disappointment.

I was reading Larry's article in todays BDN on-line when I saw the following quote, "Maine lost talented wingers Teddy Purcell and Andrew Sweetland after their freshman seasons and goalie Ben Bishop after his junior year."

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, END THE MADNESS!!!!!

The excuses never end, another reason why I don't expect much from this season

OMG, IT'S ACTUALLY TRUE!!!!! They really did leave!!!!!!

I liked Parker saying that he thinks BC and Maine will be the two most improved teams in the league. I think someone round here has been saying the same thing;)

I agree with ole Jackie on this one. When Maine and BC were as far down as they were last year, there's nowhere to go but up....theoretically. :D I pick BC to win the RS and Maine to finish 4th.:p BU will slump to 2nd, UML will take 3rd if they get lucky, Vermont and the UHN Cheatahs to battle it out for 5th and 6th and the rest dont matter. :)

And furthermore, I think Timmay's 4th place finish sets up a real problem as it just might secure his position for a contract extension.......as dismal as that sounds, dont discount the possibility. Lets face it, Timbo's back is to the wall......produce or leave. So I think he pulls all stops to keep his job.....which just might mean loosening the reins and allowing his assistants more freedom to direct the team.....stranger things have happened.:(

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I just wish he'd loosen the reins and let the boys play hockey. Run and gun, hit and scrabble. Hustle after the puck, instead of this "if you don't have a play, just dump it and retreat to center ice".

If you don't have a play, then dump it and charge in full bore after it. Put some pressure on the other team so our defensemen aren't always standing at their blue line watching the other team come at them with a full head of steam.

I don't as Maine won't finish 4th.

Parker isn't the only one "high" on Maine. Greg Cronin says Maine is the "surprise team in HE" this year. We will soon find out.;)

They know....;) And, it WILL be problematic for fanz of this team that want Timmay LONG GONE. I fear this outcome more than Maine finishing behind the Mack :D

At least for me, that would be the least stressful situation. If the team does just well enough to land the guy a 5 year extension, I'll just check out. I'm halfway there already.

Joey Diamond is going to light it up this year. I've seen him play a few times and he's got good foot speed with very quick hands and a nice scoring touch.
