Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Has anyone noticed how Jack Cosgrove manages to have a winning season every time people think about firing him, then mails in his coaching job for about 3 seasons?

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

At least for me, that would be the least stressful situation. If the team does just well enough to land the guy a 5 year extension, I'll just check out. I'm halfway there already.
Get that out of your head...5 yr extension....no way....plus don't jump the UM HKy ship....Whitehead has this year and next on his contract....never give him anymore yrs till his deal is done...and not re-newing his deal would the right way to go. This program is in way to much dissaray to be handing out any extensions. He's on thin ice and he knows it........

Without Turcotte, Maine football is in for a down year. The worst Delaware team in years and Maines D sucks. I'm pretty confident Turcotte would have had 200 yds yesterday if healthy

I don't understand how, if your defense has been on the field the entire second half and is clearly exhausted, as well as not stopped Delaware outside the red zone in the second half, you don't go for it on 4th and 2 at midfield or 4th and 1 at your own 25, very late in the game.

During halftime, Cosgrove and the players talked big about "not playing to keep it close" against Syracuse and instead trying to win. Well, it certainly seemed like he was playing to keep it close against UD.

Its cozzy, who knows.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I just wish he'd loosen the reins and let the boys play hockey. Run and gun, hit and scrabble. Hustle after the puck, instead of this "if you don't have a play, just dump it and retreat to center ice".

If you don't have a play, then dump it and charge in full bore after it. Put some pressure on the other team so our defensemen aren't always standing at their blue line watching the other team come at them with a full head of steam.

I GOTTA ASK... if you SEE this so well, (and I am agreeing that you are 100% correct in your assessment of TIM'S DEMANDS) then how come you were so down on Billy, Keenan, Bellamy, Derek, etc?

Honestly, they were trying to do what Tim told them that they had to.

---as for Diamond lighting it up this season... I would love to see it, but when he and his 2 other forwards are on top of the puck all the time, with nobody to pass to on the weak side, OR never on the weak side setting up a play, waiting for a pass.... how is he going to light it up? Always on breakaways or penalty shots?

... about Tim's playbook. Watch a game and watch Tim work the x's and o's on a whiteboard DURING THE GAME, showing his boys what the opponent is doing and how to work around their system. YOU MIGHT BE AMAZED at what you hear and see. (this last paragraph was not directed at my bff rufus, I know rufus is aware of what is going on)

Anyone going to Blue/White game today? Hope there are not any injuries... I enjoy the games, especially the shoot out at the end..

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Also it would be nice to see more hard shots (slapshots) from the point, as Duffy had success last year with the one timers...........................

Yup, he had success when Duffy was allowed to take one timers (from the high slot, if you remember... he was not allowed to take those shots from the point, even when he had a clear lane.... well not until he went to Rochester. (and for any of you who were in Albany to see John Hopson win the MVP, you might remember that his goals were set up by Duffy shots from the POINT)

I do predict that Will ONeill will have the green light to take those shots (as Tyler did). I fear that he will be the darling... not that he does not deserve it, but playing favorites leads to bad chemistry.

Yup, I went. Didn't even stay for the shoot out. Watched Willy and Darlling give up 4 goals each and the new kid gave up 7-he stinks! Actually, Willy and Scotty didn't do so hot either, but in light of Sirman's performance, they stand a bit taller!

Seeley was on the bench, but didn't play. I wondered why Whitehead kept him on this year. Now I can see why. I think there were comments last year when he gave up 2 or 3 goals in the blue/white game that he and Wilson were stinkin'.

So, was anyone else as impressed (not) with the goaltending as I was?

Can't wait to hear how the shootout went. Hopefully, better than the game.

Blue won the shootout 2-1. You're right about the goaltending today it was terrible. If all three of them play like they did today we're screwed. Diamond along with Mangene and Shemansky look like they're going to be pretty good.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Sirman was awful, he was way out of position. redeemed himself in the shoot out:D .

Who knew about the 2 guys from Slovakia? Never heard them mentioned and both played today.

Swallow is out for a month, some injury? Knee maybe

Joey Diamond was around the puck all day, he's going to be something

Carriere, 2 goals, Dek 2 goals, Hegarty 2 goals, Diamond 2 goals. Wilson was the best goalie but that ain't sayin much.

Mangene will be one of the fastest players we've seen in awhile not sure he has much for hands though.

I think the D will be ok after that who knows

Were either of the slovakians any good? Are they eligible straight away? Neither is on the roster. How did beattie and leidermark look? Thats to bad about swallow, I thought he played pretty good towards the end of last year.

I thought Randa was ok as he always went to the front of the net but he won't help the team this year. Not sure he knows what D is even though they list him as a Dman. Poticny was on the ice for a goal but really didn't notice him much.
Beattie looked ok and leidermark wasn't out of place but didn't do much.

Here's where the 2 slovaks went to school

The kids from slovakia were around the puck everytime they were in the game. I'm thinking # 18 Richard Randa will play. Poticny looked good also. The kids for the monarchs looked very good Shemansky (fast on the break out, fun to watch )and Beattie( This kid wants the puck ,was around the net all afternoon) , Mangene (strong on his skates will score some goals this year), Cornell (Handle the pressure on any break out he let the pressure come to him before his frist pass was made) , and Nemec how he didn't play last year is beyond me. I think he handle anyone on the ice. Diamond and Shemansky with deKastrozza looked great together. The Two player that looked like they improved the most to me were Robby Dee and deKastrozza.

I would be shocked if we ever see either one of the Slovaks in a game. Their skating is not even close to D1 level they couldn't keep up especially on the backcheck they need a ton of work on their skating.

I though Beattie looked good in the offensive end he made quite a few plays that showed he has hands and looks to have a nice shot as well. Like Walrus said Leidermark didn't look out of place, but he didn't do anything either.

If either one of those kids play this is a last place team.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I agree that Dee looked good, he still disappears for long stretches though. Carriere will get some playing time as will Dek

The Blue/White game is a scrimmage and no defense is played so it's tough to judge a goalie on that. I thought all three gave up some crappy goals and all three made some good saves. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it unless it's the same in REAL games which I doubt it will be.
