Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

OT-- was going through old papers and found a 1993 Paul Kariya rookie card with this quote from Shawn Walsh on the back "With the way he can electrify he is the Michael Jordan of college hockey. He's burst into college hockey like no player I've seen. He will be a dominant scorer in the NHL."
Its too bad the picture of Kariya has him in a Team Canada uni and not Maine . . . (also too bad the card isn't worth more-- its in utterly mint condition--and no, its not for sale-- this isn't some infomercial)--just a blast from the past."

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Was the coach there? if so why would anyone want to go?
Yes, the coach was there and he was fairly low-key. Every player introduced themselves. Each year in the the pre-season, the team is broken into sub-teams and competes in various team building activities. Climbing Mt. Katahdin and a 5k road race were two of them. I forget the other one. The winner was Team Banwell. Each player sat at a table. Very nice event and special thanks to Friends of Maine Hockey for their effort in putting this together. There are some good student athletes on this team.

so, were there any players who made an impression on you? (or is that not something for the discussion board?)
Which player sat at your table? And hopefully, he was upbeat about this season and the team?

I am not really comfortable in putting personal conversations about individual players on the internet. I will say that two players confirmed what coach Whitehead said in the BDN today. They have been working hard in the off season.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

The players have said a lot of things in the papers the last few years. Haven't said much on the ice.

Don't talk about it. Just do it.
RIGHT ON...your two sentences say it all...................

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

The HE coaches have Maine finishing 8th. The players say they will finish higher. I agree with the players.;)

I think this comment is interesting
Between the cuts we made and the players we’ve added the last few years, we’re getting the focus and energy back.”

I guess their was some guys holding the team back, who besides the 3 last year were cut? Randall Orsini and Belmore and....

Or perhaps TIMMAY's just tooting his own horn. "Look, I cut the losers and deadweight, and now we're gonna be something. Just you wait and see!!!"

So TIMMAY, just why was Randall playing second line duty and PP all season long, if he was one of the losers destroying team chemistry and holding them back?

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Timmay's newest Tweet:

"Another day of working to recruit players who won't come! Renew your season tickets today...please!"

Hope they make a believer out of me.

I think that's what a lot of us are hoping. Right now, we're not in Maine, we're from Missouri. "Show me!"
