Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

@ Bosox: The problem is that Maine peed down their leg against good competition in Hockey East (sorry, Merrimack). Where Maine stands to gain with a sweep is in record v common opponents, bumping up those numbers vis-a-vis other Hockey East schools in contention (but mainly BU).

The problem is that Main's H2H record against those teams is so abysmal, that flipping those comparisons will be really tough (BU) or impossible (everyone else).

Maine is close enough that I have to think that an at-large is mathematically possible. You're probably right that, though. Other than not making things harder by losing, Maine has very little say in whether or not it happens.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Well I would think if BU and Maine met up in the first round of HE playoffs, Maine could use that to get passed them, and then if they could knock off UNH/BC that would have to help them. Just making it into the HE Championship game seems like it would help Maine, even if they don't win. I'd be interested to see what Priceless can come up with for scenarios too.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

I've been at the Alfond and watched this team convincingly destroy both of the top two teams (BC and ND) in the national rankings so I don't know why they'd have any trouble being ranked right up there with them if they were led by a competent coach. We've seen what they are capable of, they just need a coach who will demand that THAT TEAM shows up and THAT EFFORT happens every night, or at least almost every night.

Yeah......TIMMAY has really been EXPOSED this season! Beats the pants off from BC, NoDak and Merrimack (all at home mind you).......makes you wonder W*T*F???

The home part has to make you nervous when the rest of their games will be on the road

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Merrimack has a 3 point lead and a series against a Providence team whose only consolation has been that their season has been slightly less miserable than Lowell's.

Maine is going to need to win consistently away from Alfond for the first time since . . . uhh . . . . a long gd time ago. :)

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Tim has this team peaking at just the right time. They have had some losses (as everyone knows), that have made it much more difficult to reach post season. This team has character and confidence now to succeed, due in large part to their much improved defense and goal tending.

I think everyone is waiting for the "real defense" show it's ugly head, which at this point with every game from here onwards on the road would be terrible timing.

Peaking at the right time would have them in the tourney without worring about losing and out. Thats a real stretch right there

Coaching tips !! ??

If you’re gonna get a W, you gotta have the D

You’d figure that in general, winning teams score a lot and don’t give up much in the defensive end. And losing teams... well, the other way around. Well, duh. Of course it’s true. In general.

Wow
Thats sucks. We're 30 something inches above normal in snowfall in the Bangor area. I've never had so much snow on the ground at my house in the 20 soemthing years I've lived here and right now you can't see 75 feet outside as a snow squall is going thru right now. The winter that will never end

squall in augusta lasted less than a half hour and is now bright and sunny...

too bad the rink is going to be out of commission, but the reality is, it needed to be blown up... hopefully they were well insured and can rebuild a bit nicer...

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Maybe there is some Obama money - Fed funds sure helped build the rink in Houlton during the ice storm.

Hey, maybe the Bangor Auditorium roof will finally give up :D

Speaking of which, why is it they are referring to the new building as an "arena" when they are not proposing an ice surface???:mad:
