Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Adam Shemansky practiced yesterday and is available this weekend. Shawn Sirman is ill and did not make the trip. The team is skating now at UMass in a morning practice. Rachel Lenzi has more.

Adam along with O'Neill were wearing orange at practice earlier this week. If I remember right last year Adam left the game on a stretcher.

I am sure he'll be there... after all he played for the team back in the 90's and he knows so much about what the team and coach does game to game, period to period and shift to shift.... those are things you don't just absorb from TV, radio and newspaper.

I just hope that he is cheering louder than my family and I will be.... and we will be THERE and cheering

that HAD to be the weakest showing of support Maine has EVER had at an away game within Hockey East. Like 30 fans. About the same number as showed up at the Union games last season.
Oh well, what you missed was Langeraap absolutely schooling Dimmen repeatedly and Syner FLYING up the ice. That kid can absolutely FLY... he might be the fastest skater I have ever seen in college... not sure, only seen him once... lucky for Maine neither one can finish.
You also missed Maine giving their all to preserve the shut out, lots of blocked shots and defenders diving to knock pucks off of sticks... and you missed them stop once the shutout was no longer possible.

Dainton must have left 30 juicy rebounds out front... Maine had a player near the front of the crease about twice... I have no idea how Maine can post players near the net all weekend long against Lowell and then forget that idea completely against UMass.

Lenzi reports Beattie and Diamond both already ruled out for tomorrow night

Friday nights maybe hard for some..(working)..may have better turn out tonight...they better re-learn taking care of the front of the net at both ends...with Diamond and Beattie out.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

One big positive I took from the game was earlier in the year, Maine would have folded like a cheap tent when a team scored 3 like that late in a game, instead they hunkered down and got the win, good for them. Losing Diamond is an absolute killer, anyone know whats wrong? by Dan and Larrys description, sounds like something really bad to a knee as he was dragging his leg. The only guy on the team who can get from the back to the front of the crease with guys draped on him. Oh well, need another win tonight, someone else needs to step up.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

I think they skated at Gorham on the way to UHN, too. fat lot of good it did them the first night, they were lost defensively out there on the big surface.

The D has to go after it agressivly. They have to close the gap, even on the big surface. They seem to play better when agresive rather than backing up which I think would have more disasterous effects on the larger ice surface due to more space and time........plus the time allows one to think too much and you end up watching the guy blow by you rather than just reacting to the play.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

I was proud of Diamond last night. No penalties, and more importantly no unnecessary penalties. The team will miss he and Beattie tonight. A really tight finish in Hockey East, the top 5 teams separated by 7 points.

Wally your point goes double for Sully. He stayed sonewhat composed and kept #4 out of his cage. Thats a step forward for him.

Good point, Sully has really turned his season around. Gives ya hope no matter what the circumstances are and his future looks way better than it did

Matt Mangene's sister Meagan plays for BC. The Freshman defenseman was selected to the all rookie team and to the honorable mention All-Star team. Congratulations to Meagan and the Mangene family.

what happened to Beattie?

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

what happened to Beattie?

Took a big hit near center ice late in the game.

Per Larry, possible concussion.

Per Rachel, "UMass' Kevin Czepiel hit Beattie in the neutral zone, just outside of the Minutemen blueline, with about four minutes let in the game and while he skated to the Black Bears bench under his own power, Whitehead said Beattie had some dizziness after the game."

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

So much for the concussion, Lenzi tweeted that both Beattie and Diamond are in tonight. This after Whitehead "ruled them out" last night. Oy

2 thoughts... 1... where are the knowitalls asking "where are NotreDame and Nebraska Omaha" now?

2... ADs usually use maine as a stepping stone, or at least they try to. Whoever comes in will have ONE important job: to right the ship that Timmy and Blake have torpedoed. If the new AD can do that, then he or she will certainly be able to move on to much greener pastures.
I think that this gives Maine fans hope that the new AD will remove the dead weight.

now the yaddayadda-ing
the hit on Beattie last night was as bad as the NorthDakota hit on Flynn... no call and no protest by the coach, the man who should be looking out for his players.
UMass's first goal was scored after the puck was caught and carried about 25 feet, in the glove... no call, and no protest
Umass's second goal was scored moments after Abbott was hauled down from behind on a breakaway. no call, and the protests came a few minutes later... bunyon ignored him (he would have been begging Jack not to tell on him, but he gave Tim a cold shoulder)
Maine was short handed in the third, Flynn was held along the boards for about 6 seconds... no protest and no call.
Nyquist might have been tripped, but he DID NOT EMBELLISH, if one ref is gonna call the trip, it is not up to Bunyon to call embellishment because he did not think that Nyquist was tripped (I did not think he was tripped, but his feet kept moving and he kept fighting... (diving is generally when the feet stop... a la Robbie Earl)... second worst officiated game I have ever seen ( as far as one sidedness goes.. every game that Harry Ammian ever did was worse but he was perfectly fair).

Of late what is attractive for a AD to want to come to Maine for 4-5 years..? To move on...? I fear we may get another Blake, and if we do...ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I hope for what you said...but I don't see it.

Re: Maine Black Bears, 2010-2011, Redemption or FORE, I say......

Maine blew a 2 goal lead with 12 minutes or so left, its not good. Not sure it really matters int he end but hate seeing that. Get ready to go to MC, Maine can beat them, whether they will????. I actually think they will but, doesn't mean much, they have to think they will.

I don't believe the official line on Diamond, he's hurt more than they are saying but the kid won't come out. Maybe a week off will help but Maine needs him to be his usual pain in the butt self to beat MC

Whitehead doesn't care that's why he doesn't stick up for his players. TIMMAY is getting his paycheck every week. He just chews his gum and claps when getting the shaft.
