Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The guys played hard and deserved a win........what a joke on that misconduct with Nemec....the refs never even reacted at the time it happened in front of the BU bench. ........the hit did not seem intentional.........looked like a bump.............. Jackie Parker was yelling at the refs to make the call.

It would be nice if Whitehead had that kind of stroke............

Are the refs out to get Whitehead ?

Benedetto is just a baffoon. Next time watch when he makes his calls. If there is lots of action he doesn't do a thing. He only makes calls when there is nothing going on. Players skating up ice to the other end. Mid ice incidental contact. Or when Jack Parker is telling him to call something. I'm telling you, the guy chokes when there's action happening -- can't think quick enough to make a call.

That's the kicker, right? Early in the season, and same last season, they were scoring goals from the doorstep and in the slot, by working the puck around, making quick passes, and finding the open man. Now, it's skate across the blue line and unload, or work it around the perimeter to the points and unload. Yeah, O'Neill got his from out there, and Abbott last night, but most of the time, those shots either aren't going to make it through, or the goalie has an easy save of them.

That's been my biggest criticism of Maine's offense since Whitehead took over. The whole plan seems to be unload from the blue line. The loss in the Frozen Four Finals with a two-man advantage proved to me Timmy has no imagination/plan/idea for offense. Defense is important, but it doesn't score goals.

It's hard to say though. The first couple months of the season it looked like Sully was the future. Then he got lit up. After the BC game, it looked like Sirman might well be the future. But while he hasn't got lit up, he hasn't been as good as that game. After the PC shutout, Ouellette looked to be the future, but then he got lit up at Merrimack. .

We don't know what we'll get, remember Martin missed training camp with an injury, really set him behind. From the games I've seen him play in, its been mental errors, too far back in the crease, angles wrong. He's quicker than Sully, gets side to side better. I'd be all for a true rotation between those 2 but Tim doesn't work that way. They need experience so..

Guys don't even have to leave early for Maine to be screwed next season, Dimmen, House, Dee, Van Dyk and 1 early in Nyquist. Wheres the O going to come from?

The Nyquist situation is interesting. I don't necessarily think that he is automatically leaving. He hasn't been a dominant player this year for lots of reasons (not all his fault, defense etc.). Still has a lot of assists but his goals are probably down (don't have the numbers here in front of me). Swedes place value on education and unless the Red Wings force him to leave I think he may return. I think he needs to get rid of that European stick. His shots on goal are frequently high.:D

I don't think there is anyway Detroit has him come back for his senior year. With the current NHL CBA it's almost automatic that the player will be signing after his junior year unless the NHL team has no interest in him which is certainly not the case with Nyquist

it's been maddening to watch this year... everything is wide and high... he needs to start trying other twigs... beyond that, he needs to release his shot quicker... too often he has a lane to the net, stops moving his feet, kicks his right skate up in the air and snaps one off... problem is, by then, the goaltender has had a chance to square himself and cut down the angle... he also needs to stop trying to go high short side... not giving his linemates a chance for a rebound (should he actually get it on net) because the puck always ends up in the corner or on the back wall after the save....

WABI has always been stuck in the 60s......

But wait a minute. They were the first TV station in the state. The first to offer a live local news broadcast. The first to offer the news in HD, the first to...........................................

I've been watching too many hockey games. ;) If I see that stupid McDonalds chicken nuggets commercial one more time.............

I assume he expects to get some cheap goals off rebounds, but when 1. The shot never makes it through, or 2. it sails high or wide, you aren't gonna generate too many rebounds.

If these guys could just get a soft wrister through to the goalies doorstep, that might happen, but they all just have to wind up and blast it, and 3/4 of the time, they don't even get it on net.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Its not like Millan was god like, he made some good saves, one in particular in the 2nd that was a highlite reel save, 90% were from the outside and easily saved

I think Maine needs to take 1000 shots each in practice and just aim for corners. When they got open shots every one of them went right into Milans chest protector or they missed the net completely.

Def should go with Marty rest of the season, bad game or not...Most highly tauted and skilled goalie, let someone even get a chance to get comfortable back there.

I agree with you. Skate harder and in mid stride take a quick snap shot. He does slow down a lot more with the puck than he did last year and think he is telegraphing shot too much. And then to boot he misses the fricken net.

BINGO!! If you notice, the games they won against ND and BC they did exactly that. Quick wrist shots from the point and burring the rebounds or getting deflected through screens. When they are playing well those are they things that are getting it done.

What a tough tie to take! The boys played their hearts out, though. Marty played a wonderful game, but turning to him exclusively might be hasty.

Maine is in TROUBLE..playing Inconsistant game after game...never 60 minutes...NEVER.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Can't wait to see what happens this weekend, should be quite a weekend for whoever is in net. UNHers are chomping at the bit to smoke Maine, I wonder which of the 3 goalies is mentally tough enough to handle an extremely hostile crowd. Martin goes Friday, after that who knows

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Everybuddy gets jacked up to play Maine, no matter how bad we're playing. Especially UHN. It is pretty much their super bowl as someone mentioned and their national championship games, all rolled into a 2 game set. We'll probably get treated to thundersticks, face painting and chit why not, hoola hoops ! :D

In any event, the whitemore will be whited out and electricity will be high ......will be interesting to see how Tim's Troopers handle that pressure, not to mention the pressure of missing yet another NCAA appearance.

I would say go with the same line up as Sat. Good speed, hustle, physicality, guts. Holding BU to 2 shots on net in the first while putting shots on net.....awesome........
and we are due to get some bounces..........
Hopefully the boys are practicing on how to finish on their shots.........should be a fun weekend !!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Lastly, I'm sure its not lost on Whistlin Dick, but this is his chance to put the death spike into his hated rivals given that Maine needs to come away with something this weekend. Letz see if Dickie fumbles his opportunity.
