Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

This game can be very cruel. Maine dominated this game with both shots on goal and their penalty kill, but couldn't come away with a win. BU did not have a PP goal in either game. Maine's penalty kill tonight was tremendous as was BU's. Millan was outstanding once again.

Entertaining game. The teams are polar opposites, there isn't any thing Jackie wouldn't tell his players to do in order to win, Tim not so much, stick to the gameplan boys.

A BU stick went into the Maine bench, the players weren't going to cough it up I couldn't see Timmy gesturing to pass the stick out, it got passed to Banwell who promptly threw it on the ice, best play he made all game. The biggest positive I see was Martin staying Mentally focused all game. I'd play him every game from here on out. Maine shot the puck from the outside all night, I'll bet Abbott took the same shot above the dots to the right of goalie a dozen times. If I never saw Benedetto or Millea ref a game again life would be good. Jackie owns them

I agree, the officiating was terrible. I don't really think it affected the outcome of the game, though. If that was a 5 minute major and game misconduct on Nemec then it was also a 5 minute major and game misconduct early in the game when House ( I think), took an elbow to the head at full speed by a BU player. Resulted in 2 minute minor.

That pretty well sums it up. Maine did play hard tonight and absolutely peppered Millan with shots. He did a great job but he was also lucky because lots of the shots were screened and just hit him. Credit to him for getting himself to where he needed to be. Frustrating to watch it though!

The stick incident...what made it funny was he threw it on the ice pretty much at the feet of the BU player waiting to collect it. It reminded me of Wrigley Field when the crowd throws opposing team homerun balls back onto the field.

Terrible refs, inconsistent and missed some real obvious calls. Called offsides on Mangene carrying the puck towards the blue line (lined up with where I was sitting) with another Maine player in the zone, except Mangene had suddenly stopped short of the blue line and the puck never went in the zone, but they blew the whistle anyway. Never saw that one before!

2 points against BU this season... cannot complain, can we? I mean it as not since Colin Shields scored a hat trick that Maine took 4 POINTS from BU in a season... 2004, and 3 the following year [thanks bosox for the heads up on the Maine with Jimmy Howard record against BU]

you think that overachieving Senior Monarchs will ever be tops in college hockey.... it just ain't in the cards.

Yea warlus agree gota go with martin until he has a bad game. On another note when is WABI going to get high def cameras for the games? Its like ancient now not seeing hockey in hi depth. Its bad enough to have to listen to the brodcasters for entire game let alone see it in regular depth. Wish they could get dale duff to do the games. Not sure if he is still somehow tied to nbc though.

tough one. effort was there. millan was real good. just couldn't finish. story of the season, right? and terrible officiating. where do they find these guys. can this team turn the corner and put some wins together?

Techically, the Jimmy/Timmy team had a 3 point weekend against Jackie at home in 2005, but who's counting. Your point is taken since Maine immediately went on a 13 game winless streak against BU as soon as Howard left campus. Of course, the majority of those were before the Monarch thing started, but now I'm just splitting hairs because I'm pizzed about this team's utter failure on the ice.

Fact remains they're 3-15-4 in the last six seasons against BU; that's 3-4-2 since the 13 game skid was snapped. I should look up the same against BC and UNH for fun but...

EDIT: Glutton for punishment. BC is 5-11-3 and UNH is 5-11. So that's a little better than against the Scarlet but unacceptable for Maine. That's 13-37-7 the last six years against the rest of the "Big Four" which is quickly becoming a Big Three by the numbers

That's easy to believe.Banwell usually plays a dumb game,as does Heggarty. When I see anybody with nothing but 4's on his sweater handling the puck down low in the Maine end,I hold my breath.

Wouldn't mind sticking with Marty for a while, either. He's Maine's best hope for the future,IMO.Stands tall and positions himself well. This revolving-door in net doesn't seem to working.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

So THAT explains 40 straight shots and no goals.........

Its not like Millan was god like, he made some good saves, one in particular in the 2nd that was a highlite reel save, 90% were from the outside and easily saved

Cameras aren't the problem, its the amount of bandwidth from Alfond to the Studio thats the problem. They don't have the a way to get it to Bangor with their present repeater. They'd have to uplink to a Sat and that costs too much for them to break even or make a profit. Pay for adedicated Fiber Optic cable and they'd do HD, until then you get what you get.

Thats nice, probably deserves another few years on his contract

The guys played hard and deserved a win........what a joke on that misconduct with Nemec....the refs never even reacted at the time it happened in front of the BU bench. ........the hit did not seem intentional.........looked like a bump.............. Jackie Parker was yelling at the refs to make the call.

It would be nice if Whitehead had that kind of stroke............

Are the refs out to get Whitehead ?

That's the kicker, right? Early in the season, and same last season, they were scoring goals from the doorstep and in the slot, by working the puck around, making quick passes, and finding the open man. Now, it's skate across the blue line and unload, or work it around the perimeter to the points and unload. Yeah, O'Neill got his from out there, and Abbott last night, but most of the time, those shots either aren't going to make it through, or the goalie has an easy save of them.

Comes down to wanting to make the effort, to be willing to go into those areas that only Diamond seems to want to go anymore.

That's 13-37-7 the last six years against the rest of the "Big Four" which is quickly becoming a Big Three by the numbers
I'd been meaning to ask Priceless what TIMMAY's record was against the Big 3 these days, considering he used to hold that up as a shining monument to what a great coach the timid one is.
