Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Thank you all-seeing one, but I understand this. I just don't know why the Timid one doesn't. The third goal by Sirman(that was the whiff, right?) might have been week, but that guy never should have been there, he should have been on his ***. Hard to score from there. The difference here was whenever there was a loose puck and scrum in front of the BU net, Maine forwards ended up on their asses. In front of the Maine net, they're allowed to stand there and take second and third whacks at the puck and the goalie, while Maine defenders hack and poke at their feet.

And I in no way mentioned Corkum. Corkum's a helluva good defensive forward. I was talking about the other guy, TIMMAY's lapdog.

pretty sure Corky does the D, not danny

I was just making sure you were not blaming the players for doing what tim demands, like you blamed billy and keenan.
How come nobody is calling Abbott, Flynn and Dee the butterfly triplets, they are doing the same sorts of things as billy and hopson as far as getting dirty... AND I DON'T BLAME THEN, TIM MAKES THEM

Look at the top 2 lines, Dee won't go in there, Flynn won't go in there, Abbott won't go in there, Gus won't go in there, House rarely goes in there and he's 6ft 3". You need a mix, all those guys can snipe a goal, they're all good players but they won't do what Diamond does.

remember the night Flynn had 5? many were from "in there"
that was one night

But Maine's 3 goals weren't unanswered. That was Ryecheers' point. BU did in fact answer those goals. Therefore, not unanswered.

about as helpful/insightful as a Darren/MAV/Pinhead contribution.

so what, we have just heard from the beginning of Zithead nation? Collar up, to hide the bloody little pimples.

Soft goals as usual. Defensive breakdowns. No physicality. Just embarrassing. Get Whitehead out.

RE: Diamond: Don't get me wrong, I like him, but the lesson needs to be learned. Guys who are abrasive and hard to play against are awesome and he's tops in the league at that. But the truly great ones know there's a time and a place. Look at Ryan Kesler up in Vancouver, changed his attitude this year and is a ten times better play for it. Joey has the skill to be that guy at the college level and instead he's out there playing like Steve Downie. I'm just tired to hearing people say "poor Joey he didn't deserve that call" when he's costing the team, at times, by not using his noggin.

RE: Goaltening. It's depressing. It makes me wonder why I bother following this team. Preseason, I thought this team would be like BU in 09, fired up and catch lightning in a bottle with a new goalie. We saw this night none of our guys are Milan. Mayb Sully could've been but that ship's sailed and no body in this group has Gilroy's drive/heart. It feels like a lost cause....

Diamond? Seriously? No one else is saying it so I will: Kid needs to learn some discipline. He takes a dumb penalty tonight that takes away a Maine PP leads to 4x4 and ultimately leads to a BU goal. Before that he got himself tossed out of the PC game. Can't help his team from the dressing room or the box.

I 100% agree, I don't know how he hasnt been benched this year. He has cost Maine so many pp's this year, last night blatantly kicking the goalies leg out from him, the coach has to do something about this. 30 more pim then anyone else on the team. Sucked we seen the goalie give up a softy, that kinda seems like the norm all season, tough to come back from soft goals. Nice snipes from Abbott!!

What I don't understand is what "Timmay" has done to engender such vitriolic attacks. He's not Shawn Walsh, but who is?? He was really something special as is Standbrook. You've been spoiled! Your present and future coaches are/will be mere mortals.

Be careful of what you wish for in Montgomery. He seems to be doing a terrific job in Dubuque, but bringing in an alum as your head coach can be especially problematic if things don't work out. Both Harvard and PC are dealing with sensitive situations at present.
This team should be doing better and as head coach Tim is responsible.

No one expects another Walsh. What you call as him being special had a lot to do with Standbrook. Walsh had great respect for Standbrook making them a great team. Tim on the other hand had no use for Standbrook. There's only so much disrespect one will take before leaving.

Do we have to wonder why our goaltending isn't up to the standards of Maine hockey?

Alumni's coming back as coaches can be a mistake. We know very well with the Blodgett fiasco. Coaches need to be hired on there proven coaching performance not on their playing ability.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Maine could use a booster with (very) deep pockets even more than it could use a coaching change, IMO.

There's a very high correlation between athletic department spending, facilities quality, and team performance. It doesn't hurt if you want to try to go after a big-name coach, either.

Before someone mentions King - yes, it was counterproductive to antagonize him, but he's not exactly what I was thinking of (though he was still probably the best Maine had).

We agree to disagree at times and that is fine...what it does come down to is that WE CARE about this team and program and frustration is at a all time high...Thanks for your input and Bleed Blue.

That's exactly what I heard from an insider today. The resources Tim (and all Maine coaches, frankly) have at their disposal is pitiful compared with other programs. For example, BC is now part of the ACC and can draw on huge resources; the BTHC is on the way; the ECAC is on the rise. After talking with this person I feel reassured about Maine's present and future. I don't expect this to mollify the throngs calling for Tim's head but for the few people who come here for positive reasons, keep the faith.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled b!tc#fest.

So can you give us a hint as to why you feel "reassured about Maine's present and future"???

Another excuse. You cannot tell me Rensselaer, Union, Yale, Merrimack, Dartmouth and Princeton have more recruiting resources than Maine. They are all ahead of Maine in the PWR right now. Sorry. Just cannot believe it. It is Tim's responsibility to bring in 25 young men who will be good academically, be good members of the community and win hockey games so people fill the stands and donors come back to give money. Just isn't happening. He is recruiting a few good players, but too many guys would be healthy scratches at other schools around the league. The top two lines of forwards and the top three d-men are very good. Other than that, no talent to write home about.

Another excuse.about.

Right. I have no qualms about the talent brought in since Corkum came on board and if you look at the recruit list in that thread, it aint bad. Problem today is the execution and desire on the ice. Thats the coach and captains. They arwnt getting it done. What resources change that? More gatorade? Bigger whoopie pies?
