Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux
I don't think it was so much the goaltending as the poor defense. Not much a goalie can do when the forward's wide open at the bottom of the circles, right in the slot, to get the pass from the other guy behind the net. Too many BU guys with too much space to operate with right down in front. Once more, too much hacking and slapping with sticks, and no one laying anyone out in front, or even covering them closely. Banwell was especially brutal in the first.
Pretty sad when Swavely lays the body on Bu more than the entire defensive corps put together. Play in the second, BU forward's skating down the right boards, got his head down a bit, stretching a bit for the puck, and all the Maine D-man(Hegarty?) has to do is step in front of him at the blueline to stop him dead in his tracks, and instead, he's four feet in from the boards, and jams his stick against the boards in front of the BU player. Guy lost the puck, but still, he coulda levelled him. Another, BU forward breaking in, two Maine players converge on him, but instead of laying a body on him, both go flashing by, poking at the puck with their sticks. Luckily, the BU forward sort of tripped himself up going between them, and lost the puck, or he would have skated right in on Sirman for another high quality chance.
It's funny for a team that Timid Tim stresses the importance of playing good team defense, how lousy they are in front of their own net. Oh, wait, maybe that's because their defensemen are being coached by an ex-forward. One not especially known for his defensive prowess, either. Maybe if they were being coached by Reg Cardinal................................
Not good, Maine blows it once again or maybe it was Sirman who blew it? Awful goaltending in the second, he was great in the first and ok in the 3rd. Not going to win many games with tending like that.
Must win tomorrow or this season is the dumper
