Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I expected them to sweep UND and take BC at home ...and they did. I also didnt expect them to let a 3-1 goal slip away against UNH. But, I give em a pass on this one....without their starting D I can make this one exception. No more will be tolerated however. :D If they dont go undefeated the rest of the season, I will be upset....;)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Is this serious or are you joking? I honestly can't tell.

Getting a sweep at home when you come into the season in the top ten with a Hobey Hat Trick guy is over achieving? Especially when your home ice is supposed to be one of the toughest in college hockey? Fortunate, maybe, but not over achieving.

When it's all said and done,I think we all want Tim to succeed, because that will give us a couple extra Maine games to watch after the RS,at the very least. Furthermore,he is by all accounts a good guy,and he runs a clean program.

I WANT to sprout wings and be able to fly and have magical powers too, but based on past experience...

and unfortunately "all acounts" are extremely mixed

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I was looking at the schedule as a whole. They should be 12-5-5. They've won and tied games they were not picked to win or tie. You look at the schedule and only see the losses or ties. Try looking at the whole schedule and seeing that there are times they've overachieved.

how can you possibly go by what is purely written on paper without seeing them play, EVER?
what the camera shows and what is going on away from the puck are not related... games are won by what happens away from the puck.

but you know that

A team that is good enough to sweep North Dakota and defeat BC 4-1 at home should never tie UCONN, lose/tie to a subpar Michigan State team, blow a commanding lead at home to UNH, etc. I can go on and on. The team has skill, especially the top two lines.

Tiimmay - there will be an opening in East Lansing - it's a great place to raise kids!!

Well theres the chance for Jim Mongomery and NOT at Maine but at MSU....he may or may not get a invite but he'll be in Div.1 hockey in 2 years.....we are stuck with Whitehead for 3 years more or until he resign's..(ya RIGHT)..or is bought and forced out by the New President and AD...(another ya RIGHT).

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Not everyone.
You are correct! I have always liked the hockey program but when you put a 3rd rate coach, who has no clue in charge, why would you want him to stay longer and keep moving the program in the wrong direction? Call it what you want, he will never lead this team to anything but maybe the middle of the pack if he has a good year and that would be in a down cycle for the other teams. Show me one area where he excels besides looking lost and clueless? (in game adjustments? motivation? leadership? ability to game plan? on a consisent basis.....)
Anyway you have your rose colored glasses for timmay and I have just clear colored lenses to see whats actually going on.

UNH is #1 in HE and lost to Dartmouth and tied Brown.
UNH has also beaten Miami Ohio and BC

BU is #3 in HE and lost 6-1 to Brown, tied Brown, and lost 4-1 to Rensselaer
BU also has convincing wins over Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and UNH

The fact is, there is a lot of parity in college hockey right now. It seems anyone can beat anyone on a particular night.

They are also a combined plus-12...
...House has been plus-five, Flynn has been plus-four and Nyquist has produced a plus-three rating.

Is this a typical way to report +/- for a line? i would think that the number is just for shock value since many of those pluses and minuses are for the same goals. Shouldn't it be "Their line averages a plus-4". Upon further review, why are their numbers even different? Do these numbers include when they weren't together? If so, how are they relevant?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I wonder if tims gonna give another generel patten type quote this week " I AM GLAD WE TIED NORTHEASTETRN THIS WEEKEND NOW WE WILL BE READY TO PLAY"!

yea baby get em timmy!

This man is a complete putz and joke and doens't deserve to be coaching a team with the prestige and history of Maine. How is he not good enough for mass lowell but gets a 3 year contract extension for missing the playoffs 3 straight seasons?

I wish the crowd in orono would come to its senses and start and a fire whitehead chant

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

How much do you attribute his penchant for breaking NCAA rules for taking a nothing program and turning it into "one of the best"? That doesn't factor into the equation, right?
And Wally et al: spare me the "It was just extra pudding from the dining hall" crap. There was some of that, there were also honest mistakes. There's also the fact that Shawn liked to bend, or outright break, major recruiting rules. You can go ahead and believe he built the program on hard work and dedication (and Uncle Harold's money). I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you if you think the rules that were broken didn't contribute to the program going from nothing to national contender in a few years.

Shawn from 1987-2001: 376-158-42 (.674)
Tim from 2003-2011: 160-111-29 (.535)

Why don't you change your name to timmy's helmet boy?
