Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Techically, the Jimmy/Timmy team had a 3 point weekend against Jackie at home in 2005, but who's counting. Your point is taken since Maine immediately went on a 13 game winless streak against BU as soon as Howard left campus. Of course, the majority of those were before the Monarch thing started, but now I'm just splitting hairs because I'm pizzed about this team's utter failure on the ice.

Fact remains they're 3-15-4 in the last six seasons against BU; that's 3-4-2 since the 13 game skid was snapped. I should look up the same against BC and UNH for fun but...

EDIT: Glutton for punishment. BC is 5-11-3 and UNH is 5-11. So that's a little better than against the Scarlet but unacceptable for Maine. That's 13-37-7 the last six years against the rest of the "Big Four" which is quickly becoming a Big Three by the numbers

thanks for the research bosox, although it makes me want to throw-up. doesn't it seem like that when a contract extension is given, there is consideration on how a team is playing against it's rivals? i don't necessarily expect them to be winning 3/4 of those games but to lose 3/4 of them is effn disgusting.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Its not like Millan was god like, he made some good saves, one in particular in the 2nd that was a highlite reel save, 90% were from the outside and easily saved

exactly. millan was definitely good, but it seemed most of the shots were being taken between the top of the faceoff circle and blue line. abbott couldn't get a shot through from the point. and many others had shots blocked. give the bu pk credit, but maine's pp is terrible right now.

True or False..? Sebastien Gingras has de-committed....if True any reasons..?

this is where you all wish you hadn't gotten Hokeydad thrown of the board.
he would know EXACTLY what Gingras's family advisor said about Whitehead and his inability to prepare him for anything but the British Elite league (Ryan and Bellamy) or the German League (Leveille and Ryan, P).... 2 leagues that he would have been ready for right out of Juniors anyway.

FYI, hokydad is still around. At least he was as of a few days ago.

It took the family advisor a year to figure this out? I don't think Whitehead can develop a player either, but lets get real Gingras couldn't even cut it in the USHL this year so how much help would he have been next year?

USCHO makes it easy with thier archives but yeah, this kind of crap would never fly in another big time college sport. Reminds you, depressingly, that hockey is not a big time sport. It's all about money and the state/school of Maine doesn't have any. Ohio State football or Kentucky basketball....they might have held on to him through now, but he'd be gone at the end of the year. I was a Whitehead supporter in 2006, 2007 but if it becomes 4 years in a row of no NCAAs? At Maine? Death sentence.

I was thinkin about that 3 point weekend against BU too....I think Jimmy Howard is a good line in the sand. The 04 and 05 teams were strong in the second half, physical....once Jimmy left feels like when this garbage really started.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The guys played hard and deserved a win........what a joke on that misconduct with Nemec....the refs never even reacted at the time it happened in front of the BU bench. ........the hit did not seem intentional.........looked like a bump.............. Jackie Parker was yelling at the refs to make the call.

It would be nice if Whitehead had that kind of stroke............

Are the refs out to get Whitehead ?

Yeah, Nemec bumped the BU guy . . . by using both hands to push his stick into the BU guy's chin, lol.

I'm not saying Nemec pulled a Marty McSorley out there. And I don't want to get into a reffing discussion. There's too much that you can't control.

You know what you can control, though? Being a selfish idiot. Sometimes you take a penalty because the team needs you to take one. And that's fine. But from what I've seen of this Maine team (admittedly only a handful of games), they take waay too many selfish, unnecessary penalties.

I agree with everyone else about Ouellette. Whitehead *is* in a tough spot, though. He has no way of knowing what he'll get on any given night. None. Wouldn't surprise me to see Ouellette get lit up like a Christmas tree in his next start, and need to be pulled before the end of the 2nd period.

He's the future, Sully is hurt and Sirman isn't the future. Is there anything left of this season? Maybe but getting 1 point this weekend doesn't bode well for anything but HE playoffs. I hate to see the kid get lit up night after night but I doubt Tim allows that. He needs experience and it seems like no one else has stepped up so......

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

If thats the case why are the games that are on ESPNU and cbs college sports network in hd?

They bring in an uplink truck and pay the money for the Satellite uplink.
WABI uses a microwave repeater to get back to the studios, it can't handle HD as it doesn't have enough bandwidth. I talked to their programming director about this earlier in the season.

LKenney could weight on this, its what he does:D

I notice there is a major production dropoff after the first 6 forwards. If Nyquist and/or Abbot ends up leaving early, Maine is going to have a very, very tough time putting together any kind of second scoring line next year. Obviously some of those 3rd or 4th liners from this year could improve by next year, but it would have to be a major, major jump in production for them to be legit scoring threats. Can't see things getting much better up in Orono anytime soon....

It's hard to say though. The first couple months of the season it looked like Sully was the future. Then he got lit up. After the BC game, it looked like Sirman might well be the future. But while he hasn't got lit up, he hasn't been as good as that game. After the PC shutout, Ouellette looked to be the future, but then he got lit up at Merrimack.

ABB is right, at this point, we don't know what we'll get from any one of these guys when they step on the ice. Untilone of these guys settles down and demonstrates that they can be solid, not necessarily specatacular, but just fundamentally solid, it's a crapshoot. Could be any one of them. Hopefully, it happens soon.

Thanks for the info, I've wondered about that. We'll see Maine in HD next Friday night against UNH on NESN.

BINGO!.....exactly. The kid did nothing in the USHL and he's already 20.

WABI has always been stuck in the 60s......
