Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Gee golly why don't we make t shirts for back to back regular season wins after all its such a rare occurance! BC win was great Providence just typical under performance by a team led by Timmy. Can this team actualy go on the road and win 2 in a row? Doubt it but the good thing is home ice for hockey east and an NCAA at large birth are in their hands. Its going to take more than beating a poor sister like providence barley and getting one win vs a good team at home to convince me this team is playoff bound. Sorry the last 3 seasons I have seen this team nose dive with its timmid head coach down the stretch. Until they proove me wrong I am a non believer. Please proove me wrong even whitehead..........

Spellcheck?????

Its all the NCAAs fault
No..I am not saying that...just the way Maine has put themseleves in record wise/and whom they've beaten...and pretty much they have only the hope of getting a chance at a Auto-Bid to get into the NCAA's this March.

This isn't accurate. Maine put itself in that boat last year by going 1-4 to end the season. Had they won 2 of those, they were in. The sweep to UMass at Alfond was killer.

The PWR will sort itself out; it alway does. This is Hockey East....the RPI will be there and once we're deep into league play the TUCs should even out too. In most years, you finish in the top 4 and get to the Garden, you get in. Didn't happen last year because of the odd way everybody backed into the playoffs....losting 4 of the last 5 usually would've dropped Maine to 5th or 6th.

Everything this team wants is in front of them, the tweak in the PWR doesn't change that. Most importantly they have to take care of business on the ice. They went 5-6-1 after Jan 20 last season (not including HE tourney). You turn that into say 8-4-1 the rest of the way, with 2-3 HE tourney wins, and, I say, you're in.

Didn't say it was itched in stone...just imo to this point...hoping for better.

Thats a pretty tall order for this team, given the way they played. 2 at UMass, house of horrors, 2 at Unh, another house of horrors, Split with BU, wouldn't be surprised although they should win 2. NU tomorrow won't be easy but I expect a win. MC at home, wow another tough series. 2 at Lowell, should be 2 Ws. It might be doable but they'll have to play as consistently as they ever have under Timmay

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Who's out for the game tomorrow night for Maine?

Per Rachel Lenzi in yesterday's PPH:
"Freshman goalie Dan Sullivan (lower body injury/knee) will not dress this weekend against Northeastern and Whitehead said he expects Sullivan to return to the lineup next weekend when Maine hosts a two-game series against Boston University, or at the latest the following weekend when Maine plays two games at New Hampshire.
Kelen Corkum (lower body injury), Nick Pryor (concussion) and Adam Shemansky (concussion) also will not travel to Northeastern this weekend.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I would say they would go with the same lineup as the game against BC to get some "consistency" (as per Timmy) and try to go on a run. Tim's team depth chart is pretty well set with the exception of the goaltending situation as per his hockey east coach's interview. Why try to fix it if it ain't broke?

Consistency is the last thing this team has.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

2200 in attendance?? Don't they seat close to 6,000 down there?
I watched the video feed and 2200 is a very generous count. It wasn't pick your own seat it was pick your own section by the looks of things on video.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Wasn't able to see or hear the game, so I can't speak to specifics.

Could someone speak to the nature of the goals against? 19/22 isn't standoutish, but it's about what we've been getting from Dan and Marty, too. Specifically, what was the nature of the GTG. I see it was late in the 3rd.

Regardless, I didn't need to see anything to point out it's yet another road game we didn't win - and one we were less than 3 minutes away from winning and didn't.

I'm sure Rawlings was great, and I'm sure we rung some posts, and I'm sure NU was playing hungry....yadda yadda yadda. But that's hockey. In this conference, you're going to play against a great goalie every single game...but the high tier teams solve it once in a while. How many 3rd period leads blown are we up to now? I'm just tired of the Tim-Speak every road game. This team can be better than that.

Well the 8-4-1 finish has the TIE out of the way now...0-0-1 start in finally 13 games....

The goaltending situation isn't ideal
