Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

This team is like a chameleon. Whoever they play against/with, with a few exceptions , they tend to blend in with their surroundings. Meaning they generally play up against good/great teams ( see North Dakota, even BC at BC, BU, UNH) and down to sub-par opponents (see Cornell, Providence, UConn, Vermont, etc.). Which means consistently inconsistent play and a lot of close games. That tells me that I expect a good effort today against BC, maybe even a win:eek:

Cornell and Mangene were Maine's top players last night, without a doubt. I honestly think Mangene is snake bitten and at times reminds me of Todd Jenkins. Cornell belongs on the blue line and Mangene should remain at forward. Sully hurt his ankle during practice.

What game were you watching? Cornell coughed up the puck that led to the 2nd and 3rd PC goals...he was awful. Mangene is good nearly every game. When he learns to finish (which he will), he will be dominating. BTW, he's a 3rd line player with occasional 2nd line.

Unless hes a Todd Jackson clone in which case he'll never finish :D

No need to miss any of the Patriot game. Like Tim said in the post game Friday night, "the game will be over at half time".:D I'll be at the hockey game supporting the Black Bears.

I guess not the same game you were. Your are correct on goal #2 but on the third goal Cornell reversed the puck to a teammate behind net who misplayed the puck allowing a Friar to get it to the net front for a goal. Cornell wasn’t looking at the roof after the goal. It was his teammate who fumbled the puck.

This player was Mangene, with the exception of him giving the puck away he played well though. Cornell isn't at fault for that 2nd goal.

Maine to lose tonight 10-1, to the sound of silence because everyone will be watching the Pats. Hope I'm wrong

Cornell has the highest (+/-) of any player on the team at +10.

Ouellette shut out Providence on their ice 5-0. Providence has improved as the season has progressed.

Have you watched him the last 3 games?. 2 of the 3 PC goals should not have been scored. To play at this level you have to be consistent and you have to stop the shots you should save. He isn't doing that

I can't dispute what you say. The first goal Providence scored occurred directly in front of me. O'Neill was defending and he came close to blocking the shot. Ouellette was squared up perfectly and was hugging the post. I could not believe the puck made it through. For the most part he tries to use his size and "stay big". Sometimes the puck has "eyes" and finds its way through no matter how well a goal tender defends. I agree Friday night wasn't one of his best games, but he played well enough to win. He is just a kid at 19 yrs. old and a Freshmen. I think he will have a fine career at Maine in my opinion.

I think so too, I think he has a huge upside, was hoping he'd be more consistent by now. The injury early probably didn't help. We'll see what happens tonight. I doubt Sully goes, so its Martin or Shawn

Were you at those BC games? Maine looked horrible and BC blew the doors off of them. Or are you just going with the BobF school of thought that "we outshot them so we must have outplayed them and just had an unlucky night"???

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The team doesn't looked incredibly clean technically, but they definitely look different tonight. More heart, more grit, more energy, more aggression, better hockey all around. They aren't playing their normal apathetic, lazy, timid game, I guess we'll see what happens in the third. But they are certainly dominating BC. Sirman looks considerably more stable and confident in net than he has in the past, lets hope he can get the shutout.
