Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Maine can beat anyone. The only question is, on any given night, do they want to? If not, they lose....its really that simple with this group. The talents definitely there....the will to win often times isnt. Sure would be awful to waste this season for lack of effort.

Having said that, Dimmen and O'Neil back is huge...you can see the powerplay and offensive creativity just starting to come back to life again. Dimmen especially is so dam smart with the puck.

Geeezus H Crispies its cold here this morning!

From the sound of it, the effort was there on Friday, too. It's just that the goaltending was crap.
.

No it wasn't, the upperclassmen did not put the effort into the PC game they did in the BC. They were far more talented than PC, they coasted big portions of the game. The goaltending was bad
Last night was the first time this season I saw Flynn and Abbott back check with the same vengeance they play the offensive zone with. Both guys carry the puck with confidence and thats huge in traffic against a team like BC so having them back was a great help to the D. Tanner House hit people, for a guy who is 6'3" he generally isn't very physical, last night he was getting dirty. Gustav back checked with passion. Van Dyk might have made the best D play on a potential breakaway I've seen this year. It was a solid team effort. Without the effort, this team isn't good, they have talent but not that much. Goaltending is still a question mark, Sirman made the saves he should have made, can he do it on the road?

I still think BC is the best team in the country, Muse was off and that put them in a hole. I'll bet BC has a nice looking Thanksgiving spread, those guys can carve you up with their sticks

I think this is the 7th straight game where Maine has scored a power play goal.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

It's probably too early to worry about this, but does Maine have a bit of a PWR drop coming to them? I looked at the head-to-head comparison Maine wins against North Dakota, Maine 2 head to head wins vs. UND's RPI giving Maine a 2-1 edge. But the Sioux kill Maine on TUCs, Maine is like 1-5-1. I think TUC has a minimum of 10 games per team to count (I'm sure someone can correct me if I am wrong there), but as soon as Maine plays 3 more TUCs (probably in three weeks after BU and UNH), they are going to drop that comparison. There are a few more (WMU, Dartmouth, Minnesota) that could swing immediately on Maine playing a 10th TUC also.

The key, obviously, is winning games, that BU weekend will be huge, and nipping one at UNH (on the road no less) would be extremely helpful.

Maine: The Way UMaine Hockey games should be.

I still think BC had an off day, and that the post-Walsh Maine teams are good mostly for beating up bottom dweller teams and getting beat up by the higher ranked teams, with an occasional Win over a higher team. But a win over BC is special, especially after being beat up by BC for a long time now.

it works the other way too... maine is 1-5-1 against tuc vs. no dak because they remove the head to head games... maine is poised to pick up some as well... miami, union, wisconsin are all poised to drop once maine hits that magic number... pairwise is still very volatile... maine was 17th heading into the weekend and are now in 10th... they need to go 4-2 against BU-UNH-MC and then take care of business against the bottom half of the league... the common opponent piece will be huge when all is said and done...

I think I've taken a deep breath and I'm a little more reigned in and a little less: out for blood today.

I just get really frustrated when a coach sets his team up for failure. Tim didn't pull his typical lineup shenanigans, he actually gave Shawn his well deserved next look, and they played up to good competition. It's frustrating to watch what they're capable of when more times than not: they're playing down to teams and not showing much care.

Anyone have a timetable for Sullys injury? Is Sirman starting at Northeastern. Timmay likes to ride the hot hand so I'd say yes right now.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I said "they can win 10-0 and it proves nothing"

Right, because what you said is all that matters.
They haven't had an opportunity to win an away game in the last week, only home games, which they won, both of them, one by dominating BC. How about you STOP COMPLAINING until they lose at NU, everything negative has already been said, be happy the two wins aren't loses.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.......Maine is inconsistent and O'Neil and Dimmen may be THE key players on the team.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

congrats to maine. that was as thorough of a butt kicking i have seen BC take in many many years. offensively, defensively, goaltending, power play, short hand, transition game, physical game - maine was far and away the better team in every facet.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Could someone explain why Banwell was playing instead of Anthoine? I liked many of the changes ( Sirman, Swavely) but that one confused me.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Sirman deserved the first star but the whole team played like they were possessed. Where has that Tanner House been anyway? I thought Swavely, Mangene and Van Dyk were excellent tonight. Great win, need to play like that every game.

I agree but I surprise the stat watchers didn't take you to task because you didn't include Flynn and Dimmen.

Too bad Timmay will change up the lines and everything will come crashing down again.

I expect big things from Flynn and Dimmen. I like to see the guys who don't figure into the score sheet to get credit for what they did. I really like Swavely, he does the little stuff like Mangene does. Really in this game I could have named anyone. It was the most complete game I've seen them play in awhile. I'm hoping that trend continues

Banwell was a healthy scratch Friday night against PC. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that Tim just wanted to get him in the game after sitting out. Nothing against Anthoine, he played well Friday night I thought.

If Sullivan isn't ready, I agree with you. Tim will go with the hot hand in Sirman.
