Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Some how I think BC will be just fine with York for the next 5 years. When it comes to recruiting, BC has a very strong academic standing and will always draw top talent. It seems that BC and UNH never have down years.

As great a coach as York is, he no doubt has the benefit of oftentimes being able to pick and choose pretty much any bigtime recruit he wants, especially those out here in the East. Walsh brought in great talent as well, as those Maine teams from the early/mid 90's looked more like the Red Army team than a college squad. As much as some Maine fans want to believe the talent is still there, in my eyes the difference is night and day...

How many Frozen Fours has UNH been to during Timmays reign at Maine? ;) :p

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Look on the bright side. BC just signed an extension with Jerry York, and we're stuck with him for another 5 YEARS.

3.5 years ain't nothin'. Maineuhs just don't know how good they've got it. ;) :p

You know no one likes you right?

Well,Jeez, maybe York can afford to be selective because his program challenges for the NC every year?It might have something to do with his coaching, too,ya think..? You put the cart before the horse,IMO.

And Maine fans don't believe that the talent is "still" here;talent has been absent from Orono for a few seasons. But it's back,at least to a significant extent.

Last year, things started to look up.This season, there is no doubt that the Bears have enough skill and depth to make a splash. If they don't,there is no place else to put the blame other than on the coach. He is paid pretty well to win hockey games, and he clearly has the tools to do that.

So GO BLUE,already!

I'm wondering about that too. I don't think that the same old, tired excuses will fly this time around.....even with the most ardent Whitehead supporters.
There's always....."Next season we should be alot.................fill in the blank"..................2011,2012,2013.

Hey folks... we're heading up Sunday, staying at The Courtyard (Marriot) in Bangor. Where's a good place to get some eats and watch the Pats game before the hockey game? Does Pats Pizza have lots of TV's?

HOw are you all guaging talent?
ability to score on a break away?

ability to read the play and anticipate what the D is about to do, and where one's linemates are going to be?

tools to make it to the NHL?
I guess I can agree that many of the current players are as talented as the Maine players in the 90's, but I think that that puts them at ECHL/AHL level today, when it used to give them a chance at the NHL.

almost none of these boys, (if ANY) are going to the NHL
Nyquist lost his chance, UNLESS HE IS NURSING AN INJURY AND CAN RECOVER

did any of you see how long Todd Jackson lasted in Detroit's system?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Does anyone know if O'Connor is a healthy scratch?
he was always out against top lines when he did play, and his plus minus was fine in the past few games.

He has been a healthy scratch but played in the two games at Providence and played physical in both picking up a 5-minute major in game #1. I think we will see him tonight and Banwell or Nemec will sit.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Hopefully the power play does not go in the reverse direction this weekend and suffer some short handed goals..................Sting !

Playing BC on Sunday with a 90.4% PK first in the country with 7 SHG standing at second overall, what do you think?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I've been out of the loop and not following much hockey, so I decided to check out the weekly Hockey East column to see what's happening. A longish feature on UNH, a "Merrimack's decent!" blurb and a salespitch to buy Hendrickson's book?

Is that normal for that column these days? What a joke.

For Hockey East writers here, it is normal lately and yes, it is a massive joke. Hendrickson and Scott Weighart.... Both have used their columns or the message board to sell their books. This was the first time I heard of Hendrickson's book, though. Weighart's constant promotion of his stupid BU book was terribly embarrassing.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

When I think of Maine hockey and making a splash, the only connection I can make is a turd plopping down into the toilet bowl.

That is a perfect description of timmay and what he has done to the program. If it smells like s**t and it looks like s*%t it must be a timmay team:eek::mad:
Sad to say but that is what Maine hockey is now a days an afterthough of a great program gone down the drain...thank you timmay that is the only thing you have been successful at during your tenure at Maine.

Marty in net tonight and Sully on Sunday?

"Getting knocked out of the HE tourney and missing the NCAA's is a good thing, because next year, the guy's will be really motivated."

They both blew on Saturday, and this team is in need of a shakeup. Better not play Shawn.

SAVE %
Sullivan... .883
Ouellette... .893
Sirman... .911

GAA
Sullivan... 2.80
Ouellette... 2.68
Sirman... 2.61

It's obvious to me that Shawn should continue riding pine. He started the season as our "#1", but the other two have outshown him.

It was supposed to be a 3 horse race, but he isn't deserving of looks any more than once every 2 months. That way, he'll never have rhythm or game confidence...so when Sullivan and Ouellette are hurt, he can come in, suck up the joint with rust, and Timmay will look WICKED SMAHT for never playing him.
