Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I guess since the coach has no motivational tools, this is about the best we're gonna get in that department. I have a hard time figuring why you need to have your azz handed to you to get motivated, but that's just me, I guess.

I'm beginning to believe Timmay couldn't motivate hookers with 100 dollar bills

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

After years of wanting to attend a UNH game at the Alfond, with high expectatiions for excitement, did so on Dec 10. Even with 15 minutes left, and UNH down a couple, I told my wife the excitement was more than I had expected. Loved it! LOVED IT! The students were lined up at 4:30 to get tickets for a 7:30 start. They were organzied and LOUD. The fans knew hockey, supported their team, and let them know it. It was great. You are very lucky to have such an atmosphere.
Hope the Bears play this weekend like they did just a month ago. If so, should easily beat Providence and could beat BC. Indeed, hope they play well the rest of the year, including Feb 4 and 5 at the Whitt. The UNH-Maine rivalry is one of the best in college sports.
Good luck, Black Bear fans. See you Feb 2012, if not before.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

They sold out the last home weekend...and I don't recall Timmy changing the arena, if the Alfond was the best barn in college hockey it still is. People will buy season tickets because they are LOYAL (not fairweather) fans of the team who actually enjoy watching hockey. There have been some speed bumps (pot holes), but this team scores/wins a lot at home, they're fun to watch and the games are loud and exciting. But there shouldn't even be a correlation between team performance and atmosphere, fans should be enthusiastic about watching their team play regardless of performance. Do you think Cornell fans enjoy watching their team play poorly, obviously not, but Lynah is still sold out every game and probably the loudest building in hockey.
It's not so much the fact that they lose some games, every team does that. It's more the HOW and WHY they lose that is so frustrating. Half the time they don't even look like they're trying out there, and then at the end of the game a reporter sticks a microphone in their face and they confirm that they were't going all out and don't even seem all that embarrassed. "but losing like that is probably for the best because it'll motivate us for the next game" Sickening!

That's one of the best posts I've ever read, thank you.

I agree completely, I hate the coach, I think he's an awful coach. He's instilling mediocrity and timidity and ruining these players. He can't motivate his team ever and when they play with heart it's very brief. He's had his chance, all he's done at Maine is waste talent and blow good seasons, he needs to go. This team may not deserve to be supported completely, but I will be watching every game I possibly can be, not because I'm particularly proud of the organization right now, but because Maine hockey is an OBSESSION.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

What I want to know is why Blake James was able to hand out contract extensions to UMaine coaches like a dealer handing out crack on a Bangor street corner??? Where was President Kennedy when these extensions took place? Did he just agree that this group of UMaine coaches were worth it........or was he completely CLUELESS????????...........

Don't worry Kennedy knew what was happening from the get-go.......and he's leaving at the end of this school year.......so the NEW A.D. has his hands full...the ONLY HOPE is the NEW A.D. is NOT another Blake James...if so the Program has NO HOPE....lets hope the new A.D. has some motivation to get this Program back to where it was...it will take time, thanks to James draining it all out.

Gracious post, but UNH winning that debacle surely didn't impact your positive take on the Alfond experience!

The fact remains the coach has a contract, nothing is going to happen until the contract is up.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

I wouldn't even want him as an assistant coach let alone leading the program as the main man. Truly disgusting I wonder what the former players who played under walsh think of him? What will be the excuse this year when we don't make the NCAA's again? You guys know as well as I do this is the time of year timmays bumch sinks. Maybe we can make boston again and lose in the final game! Man wasn't that so much fun!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

are those of us that have been hard on Timmay for years still "Internet Nutcases"?

Your commentary on Timmay is irrelevant in this case. Even without it you're still an "internet nutcase"

I would call it more like being a sheep and timmy is your sheppard

I can't speak for James, but I am guessing Tim's contract was extended in order to ensure that recruiting good players would continue. With Tim's contract expiring in another year (I think that's what he had left?), it would have been more difficult to recruit quality players. Walrus is right, Tim is not going anywhere for another 3.5 years. It's really a waste of time talking about it, unless it relieves a lot of frustration and may provide a source of entertainment for some of us on this board.:D

I hear what your saying...what I am saying is the NEW A.D. is coming in with his hands tied with a contract he had no say....had the President and former A.D. had there marbles in place and put in a 1 year extension so the New A.D. could make his own Judgement on the situation...instead its a lost cause and we the Die-Hard UMaine Hockey fans are stuck and the loser's in the Long Run....a Great Program gone down the DRAIN..period.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Hopefully the power play does not go in the reverse direction this weekend and suffer some short handed goals..................Sting !

Look on the bright side. BC just signed an extension with Jerry York, and we're stuck with him for another 5 YEARS.

3.5 years ain't nothin'. Maineuhs just don't know how good they've got it. ;) :p

Some how I think BC will be just fine with York for the next 5 years. When it comes to recruiting, BC has a very strong academic standing and will always draw top talent. It seems that BC and UNH never have down years.
