Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

It would be about $350K...but what are you basing the 800 lost season ticket holders on?

That's what Mahoney's article said, attendance was down about 800 from where it was two seasons ago. It's had from the figures they release to figure out when and how much it has dropped the last 10 years or so.

Right, which Larry has written several times over the past few seasons. Larry is Kevin Bacon in Animal House: "Remain calm. All is well!!!"

LOL...good one.

Does this now tie Larry into the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game?

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

AIC defeated currently #1 team Quinnipiac in the pairwise rankings during the regular season.

Excellent! AIC, Quinnipiac and 4 games a piece vs. UVM and UMass.........AWESOME schedule! Coach Whitehead knows what he is doing........this program is ready to take off.

I don't have systematic evidence, but I do have anecdotal evidence. My father used to be happy to make the 90 minute drive to Alfond. Now he goes to maybe one game per year. And he's on Team Whitehead - not Team Fire Whitehead. I guess even among Whitehead supporters, games aren't as attractive as they used to be...

Many Mainers love Coach Whitehead because he does not rock the boat........slow and steady wins the race. You'll see.

Based on USCHO numbers, Maine attendance (minus neutral site "home" games like Portland or Fenway Park)

Code:
Alfond Attendance
Yr	G	Att	Ave
2012-13	17	70973	4175
2011-12	18	79866	4437
2010-11	15	74647	4976
2009-10	18	76243	4236
2008-09	17	80200	4718

2002-03	21	103143	4912

(Data corrupted for 2001-02, shows average attendance of 5)

250 fewer people than last season, 800 fewer than two seasons ago, which was the same as 2003-04. I would be interested in seeing (and the university will never say) how those attendance fluctuations correlate to season ticket holders renewing/not renewing vs fewer/more walk-ups sold.

ETA: It is a public university...I wonder if that information would be covered by a FOIA request...

Maine also plays 5 teams in the upcoming season who are currently in the top 9 in the pairwise rankings.

The 02-03 season must be people actually at the game. I was at most home games that year and remember it close to 100% full most of the time. I think it was hard to get tickets then to.

Maine has 10 games against the top 10. Other teams that have that solid a schedule are...um....

No one draws up tougher schedules than Coach Whitehead. I hope that we see more programs like AIC and Quinnipiac popping up on future schedules. Atlantic Hockey programs are much tougher than you think. Wouldn't be surprised to see them "steal" a game at Alfond..........tough place to win but it can be done.

I think AIC is the school with the bumble bee on the front of their jersey. :D

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

I thought young Abbot was supposed to announce Timmays firing yesterday. Is he having second thoughts, or do the internut nutcases have bad information

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Hopefully, Maine won't feel the "sting" of AIC next season. Can't wait to order my season tix for next year. Anyone know when they go on sale?

So then, you will be flying from San Diego to see your bears take on the bees ? You're some phkn nuts.

I received my season ticket application the first week of July last year in the mail. You can also go to goblackbearstickets.com. I bought mine online last year.

More along the lines of "wishful thinking"

The internet nut cases will never get their "wish". They would be better off supporting the team and channeling their negative energy toward helping the poor or volunteering at a soup kitchen. Thankfully, Abbott will not cede to the wishes of a bunch of anonymous yahoos and hopefully sign Coach Whitehead to an extension sooner rather than later.
