If you live in San Diego, then you may not have been to a Maine Hockey game or watched on TV recently. I read several of your posts this season and thought they were mostly reasonable. Until the more recent posts, readers didn't really think you were dillusional.I'm glad to see that Coach Whitehead is coming back and hopefully, a new 3 year extension is on its way as well. He did a great job this season under very difficult circumstances. They were very young and lost a lot of terrific players from last seasons' team. Early departures have really hit this program hard. It is also very difficult to attract recruits to Orono, Maine. It's a very boring place with not a lot to do. Alfond ain't all that either..........and the fans are way too hard on the players. If anything, the fans put too much pressure on the players and coaches to win. You'd think that the teams' stellar GPA would be enough........these guys are here to get an education first and playing hockey is icing on the cake.
I more or less meant that its usually more B.S. then what really is happening...a filler on a Down & Out Program.Look back at the Larry's articles from the last five or six seasons, and you'll probably see about three or four other articles that read almost exactly the same way. All he has to do is replace player names and stats, and there you are, voila, another "end of season recap, the future's looking brighter" article. Larry's probably got the template saved on his computer.
TIMMAY resign yet?
We are now comparing him to the likes of David Wilson, Scott Sirman and Scott Darling, let me tell you he is beyond elite. All Kidding aside Marty is a good goalie who gave Maine a chance to win most games if the rest of the team could actually score a goal or 2.I wouldn't call Ouellette elite. He's good, but a .917 save percentage is not elite level by any stretch of the imagination.
If it starts like this past season I doubt itgood chance to get at least one point outta that!![]()

Whitehead absolutely did not do a great job this season. He did a crap job by all basic standards of performance. Your assertion is opinion, it's total lunacy, and completely unsupportable with any empirical data. Whitehead led this 2012-13 team to the following:
1. Maine had a .395 winning percentage this season. Do you want to re-think the "great" tag?
2. They won 2 games at Alfond. 2! That does not qualify for anything anywhere ever.
3. Maine was 57th out of 59 Div 1 teams in Offense.
4. Maine was 51st out of 59 on the PP (that's Power Play).
5. Maine was 11th out of 59 in Penalty Minutes per game, largely attributable to Joey but overall still stinks.
6. No Maine player even sniffed the top 50 scorers in the nation. Probably not the top 100.
7. Two bright spots in the entire season, both completely unpredictable: winning the Florida Holiday Tourney and beating BC twice at BC the weekend of 1/25-26.
If you truly believe that "the fans put too much pressure on the players and the coaches to win", then you don't understand a fan base or the basic premise of competitive sports. Div 1 College Hockey in the U.S. is the definition of competitive sports. If you really think that the team's stellar GPA would be enough, then you should join Oceanography Professor Sizzlecheeks and petition to make all the games ties so that the players psyches and feelings aren't hurt. Make it like Little League tee-ball. That would be good enough, right? This Hockey Program was once a National Power and a hugely important asset, a point of pride, and statement of accomplishment to the University, the Athletic Department and the entire State of Maine. It is an asset; currently an asset worth less each season and a program in need of a huge overhaul. And there are a lot of us who are not going to sit idle and silent while it slides into oblivion.
I think Sandie's having more fun on this thread than he's had in years. No need to get upset. This team has a tremendous GPA to go along with a strong schedule and great returning players and recruits next season. Coach Whitehead just needs a chance to put it all together.
What a ******* joke
Maybe they're trying to discourage folks from renewing their season tickets? I wonder if they'll have $50 tix for these marquis matchups
Here's a little-known secret for you, AA: those of us you have been subjected to sandie for a while have believed him to be delusional for a long time. Thank God you are not serious. You had me because you sound like a dozen other people on this thread who write the same material you do, but actually believe it. Whitehead has to go but probably won't because he won 11 games this season. Wow! I'm not convinced at all that Stevie has the stones to act upon it. Cindy Freakin' Blodgett is one thing. This is an entirely different level, financially and reputationally. Keep up the martini (extra dry) wit and sarcasm and another dope besides myself will rant at you too. FunnyNo need to get upset. I agree but the paltry 11 wins probably took the conversation of canning him off the table. If he won say 5 games, then Stevie has no choice than to have canning him in the conversation. It's already borderline gross negligence on the AD's part leaving him in place for the last year of his contract. It has more to do with the $190,000 than the 11 wins.

Soon to be $200K once Coach Whitehead signs his extension. I expect Abbott to get this done........but most likely during the summer as to not upset those that want Coach Whitehead fired.
I'm sure having 800 people less a game costs more than $190K. I think Abbott will get rid of him but could be wrong. It will be interesting how season ticket renewals go if they bring him back.
