I am not sure that I am happy with 9th place for Maine hockey after making tremendous improvements. and I am not willing to buy the right to buy season tickets and pay a coach $190k a year in Penobscot Cty. Dollars for these sorts of tremendous improvements... are you?

Tim is a goner.....can't envision any scenario that keeps him here.....practices are awful. Ask any player. Some guys are in terrible shape, and others are just scared....Norman is both,,yet a QB on the Pp. Anthoine is a disappointment, seems like a lack of focus......soph class is a miss. Frosh the real deal. Who captains next year. .

How? I've yet to have anyone explain to me the mechanics of Whitehead being fired in any way that makes sense. It has to go beyond him deserving it. You need to explain a.) where the funds are coming from, b.) who makes the decision, c.) who makes the new hire, etc. And before you can explain b or c, you need to figure out who the AD will be come June.

His VIPness will supply the funds. Pocket change to him.
The new coach will be Zombie Shawn Walsh.
Pope Ratzinger is resigning from that job to become the new AD at Maine in June.

a) The funds will come from any of the various discretionary fund pools from either the Athletic Department, or the President's discretionary fund or some other "rainy day" fund that is/has been set up for just such things. Yes, we know they hit the till to let Blodgett go, but I'm sure there is more in there than just that 109K. You have, on hand, an assistant coach to make an 'Interim Head Coach' who would more than suit the need should the coaching search become drawn-out.

b) The decision lies with the Athletic Director. Though I am sure he will receive some "encouragement" and "advice" from the Alumni Assocation, F.O.M.H. and other financial supporters of the program. How many skyboxes are due for renewal this year? How many season ticket holders are going to not renew? With all the big travel plans, new teams and new playoff format (read: expenses associated with being a bottom-half team forced to travel for the post-season) There (should be)will be a good, hard, look at projections...including revenue losses in concessions, product sales and ticket sales.

c) The new hire will be made by the committee the AD or the President sets up to do the job. It will be put out to a national search this time, unless Abbott wants to pull a "Sue" and just go ahead and name Corkum the new Head Coach without a search (sorry Jim, Scott, et. al.) Otherwise, Maine has, on hand, an assistant coach to make an 'Interim Head Coach' who would more than suit the need should the coaching search become drawn-out.

Who the AD is come June is irrelevant as long as Abbott, while still the AD at Maine, does what is in the best interest for the University and the UM hockey program.

All of this, of course, IMHO.

Its not happening, forget abc, d is the answer, Tim stays for another year. The team looks far better than it did in the fall and that's enough for him to keep his job. One can argue that they still suck, look at the home record, etc etc, doesn't matter, look at the economic times in Maine, its really all you need to look at

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Hey, Wally, can you just robo-post that every day for the people who just can't see reason? It would probably help your sanity.

I think you are right on! Why waste a lot of time and energy when nothing will happen until after the 2013-2014 season. AMEN!

Where are you coming up with that on the soph class? It's really disappointing with Parker, he was a very good player IMO, but the rest have all been decent. Rutt has probably been Maine's best dman this year and Higgins consistently is good. Leen has scored some goals and been one of the better players. I'm sure if he didn't have medical issues there would be more from him. I guess you could say Cerratani has been disappointing but I think he has had injury issues and as far as I'm aware there wasn't a lot expected from him.

I won't argue that Leen and Rutt have been good players. They certainly are decent Division I hockey players. The problem is Higgins is a roleplayer and nothing more. You say Cerratani has been disappointing, but not a lot expected of him. Why bring in a player if he's not going to be expected to perform? Another instance of bad recruiting/picking players out of desperation because you can't get anyone else.

No matter how you cut it, the players aren't good enough so that's why in 9th or the players are good enough, but the coaching staff isn't getting enough out of them...both bring blame right to Whitehead.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

My biggest gripe is very simple, look at Merrimack's roster and then look at Maine's roster. Tell me who has more talented players. You cannot tell me for one minute if Mark Dennehy had Maine's roster that the Black Bears would be in 9th. Some reporter pointed it out a month or so ago.

Their is only one way out, some benefactor comes up with 1/2 million and says its yours if Timmay goes bye bye

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I wonder if TIMMAY is like J Edgar Hoover was with all the Presidents and has dirt on all the U Maine bigwigs or maybe even the politicians and has threatened to ruin all their careers if they fire him?

You don't think that could happen..? Or that there's more going on behind the scenes that all of us know about..? I won't be surprised either way: TW leaves or stays...the Program is the one that suffers in the long run....bet that 2 to 3 days after the season is done we will all know what to EXPECT come 2013-14 Season...Status quo...or Search Team in the making.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

This team appears to be very close and has very good work ethic. Probably brought together even more because of the tough times the team as gone through this year. Appear to be a very resilient group who never give up (last night's game an example). They are not highly skilled and do make mistakes. I have seen every game at home and this team has shown tremendous improvement since October in my opinion.
Every Weekend you don't know which team will show up...good/bad...season has been a roller-coaster mess: 8-16-6 says it all.
