Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I won't argue that Leen and Rutt have been good players. They certainly are decent Division I hockey players. The problem is Higgins is a roleplayer and nothing more. You say Cerratani has been disappointing, but not a lot expected of him. Why bring in a player if he's not going to be expected to perform? Another instance of bad recruiting/picking players out of desperation because you can't get anyone else.

No matter how you cut it, the players aren't good enough so that's why in 9th or the players are good enough, but the coaching staff isn't getting enough out of them...both bring blame right to Whitehead.

Higgins is under-appreciated. Diamond and Shore are the only players on the team who are better on the puck than him. He doesn't have the numbers scoring wise but I think a lot of that has to do with not spending a lot of time on the PP and not having the most talented linemates. Having someone out there at the end of the game who can defend is very important too.

What do you think Cerratani is missing? I think he has decent size, speed, and hands. Maybe with him its more of a mental thing, but from what i've seen there isn't a glaring weakness physically. We don't know how much money he got either. I'm not sure how much criticism I would give the staff for him.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Every Weekend you don't know which team will show up...good/bad...season has been a roller-coaster mess: 8-16-6 says it all.
Oh sure you do....8 times they showed, 16 times they didnt, 6 times they were hung over.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Im considering putting up the half mill.....only problem is, I dont retire quite so well if I do. I'd rather see one of those highly compensated ex NHL player alums do it:D

Timmay go or All Bear Retire Well...hmmmm, tough decision.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Their is only one way out, some benefactor comes up with 1/2 million and says its yours if Timmay goes bye bye

I was hoping I'd win that huge Megamillions jackpot so I could do just that.

"Here ya go Steve, here's a briefcase with $50 million in it to go towards building a new hockey arena. And here's an envelope with $200 grand to buy out Whitehead's contract. You take the envelope, you get the briefcase, too."

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Is the state of Maine really THAT bad off where they can't afford to spend half a million to save its only bigtime sports program? We have something like @ 8,000 state employees here in MA making $100K or more (some a LOT more) a year and our Government spends millions like it's pennies, so half a million dollars wouldn't even register on the radar screen! I realize Maine's economy is smaller than Mass' and it obviously isn't as frivolous with its money, but man, I am shocked that some way they cannot come up with that kind of money. Aren't there any successful, wealthy alum that would pony up that kind of cash?

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Its not happening, forget abc, d is the answer, Tim stays for another year. The team looks far better than it did in the fall and that's enough for him to keep his job. One can argue that they still suck, look at the home record, etc etc, doesn't matter, look at the economic times in Maine, its really all you need to look at

That's my take,too.

If this team had finished 5-25, there might have been enough public outrage to fire Tim... But even the modest uptick we've seen lately, with Maine in the hunt for the 8th spot in HEA  looks to be enough for him to avoid the buyout.

The bar has gotten that low, unfortunately.

Hey, just consider 8th place will be our National Championship hunt this year....it truly will be exciting. 5 to 1 says we dont make it.

On a different subject:

Kyle Solomon joins suit against NCAA; first hockey player in case

Former University of Maine men’s hockey player Kyle Solomon became the first hockey player to join a class-action lawsuit claiming the NCAA didn’t do enough to prevent concussions, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The lawsuit contains three other former student-athletes who, like Solomon, suffered career-ending concussions, according to the Press Herald: former Eastern Illinois University football player Adrian Arrington; former University of Central Arkansas football player Derek Owens and former Ouachita Baptist University women’s soccer player Angela Palacios.

Solomon, 25, played hockey for the Black Bears from 2008 to 2010. The Southampton, N.Y. native detailed his concussion history to The Maine Campus in February 2012. Solomon said that while he sustained a number of concussions in game, it was a hit in practice that ended his career.

“It didn’t knock me unconscious but it gave me a concussion,” Solomon said of the hit in 2012. “It’s a really bad news hit. When that happens, you know something’s wrong. Nobody should get a concussion that easy.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

This weekend will tell. Wonder why we have forwards playing D, D playing forward? Our O and PP have picked up but the D has gotten much worse of late. Not going to win much when you give up 5 goals!

20 losses and no HE playoffs would make it very interesting though..........;)

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I am speculating that Solomon responded to a survey circulated by a law firm representing other athletes who had received concussions. I doubt Solomon pursued this on his own. I don't really know, but I am guessing the law firm did a follow up to his response. We may never know the exact scenario.
Which matters because...?

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

If I was on PTI, I'd put the odds at less than 10%
Come on,stay away from PTI...thats just another garbage ESPN program...but your under 10% is possible...but my take in 2 parts: If Maine secures a Playoff spot, then there's no chance(0%)TW loses his job, stays on as a Lame Duck Coach...OR if Maine falls to 10th place and fails to win 10 games then I put it @ 25% something could very well happen, but then thats just imo.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

With NU's O.T. win last night over UMass,Maine is 1 point back of UMass...two games with the Minutemen this weekend in there rink...they have there seasons hopes(just Hockey East Playoffs that is)in front of them...more or less Playoff Hockey for Maine from here on in with 6 games left to play.
