Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I'm in the same boat with my local D-3 team... They sell a lot of no-show corporate season-tickets, so half the time they announce a sellout when there are a bunch of obviously empty seats.

Maybe the guys who engineer such farces have never read "The Emperor's New Clothes"?

Sounds like the Boston Red Sox to me.;)

I don't understand the fascination people have with reporting tickets sold vs actual attendance. It isn't like Maine is the only place it happens or even started the practice. Almost every sports league in existence reports attendance that way because it sure looks better; and in the NFL if you don't sell out you get blacked out so if you don't sell out, you better buy the tickets or else. As I said earlier out, the university keeps the cash even if you don't attend the games so whether you go or not isn't that important to them. If anyone has ever successfully gotten a refund from the university for a ticket they've bought and didn't use, please let us know because you'd be the first person in history.

Why not report both attendence and tickets sold?

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Why not report both attendence and tickets sold?

that would be like reporting BOTH the number of people actually collecting unemployment and the number of people that are out of work (including those no longer eligible to collect).

this is where we begin to see that there are
lies, dam lies and statistics

There are too many people out there competing for far too few jobs and it is obvious that the official unemployment rate of 8% is wishful thinking at best.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Nice to see Mark Anthoine break out of his scoring slump. He has really struggled. According to Hannigan, Ouellette was fantastic.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Ouellette has single handedly saved Whitehead's job this season........TIMMAY should thank him BIG TIME!

The 4 games...2 wins over BC/comeback tie with PC and the first win @ Alfond in O.T. over UML more or less cemented that TW would be back or his chances a way lot better...plus a Athletic Department that is afraid or has there hands tied(a Donor or two who favors TW)...and as many will point to a Economy that "IF" anyone thought of a Buy-out deal that the State would close shop. He'll be back most likey as a Lame Duck Coach, unless the Hobby A.D. hands him assurances after his present contract that they will re-new his deal with say a 2-3 yr extension....right now I would say and I hate to say it...he'll be back, but lets hope common $ense factors in...if you bring him back for his last yr on his deal that there are NO extensions in the works...it is such a s MESS as this has to be hard to pitch to a recruit about the Coach/Team and the forth coming years....plus you'll see it effects attendence and season/single game sales for next season. But at least Ouellette has come into his own and has performed well after 2 seasons who whats wrong or did they miss on this recruit. But this is still a 9-16-6 team/clinging to the final playoff spot with 5 games left.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

How would we grade the program overall over the last 6 years?

2012-2013 9-16-6 D but still incomplete
2011-2012 24-14-3 B NCAA loss to Minn-Duluth in first game
2010-2011 17-12-7 C loss to Merrimac in the HE quaterfinals
2009-2010 19-17-3 B- loss to BC in HE finals
2008-2009 13-22-4 C- loss to BU HE quarterfinals
2007-2008 13 18 3 D No postseason
2006-2007 23 5 2 A Frozen Four loss to Michigan State in the semifinal.

We have to go back 7 years to find the kind of success that Maine Hockey deserves, the fans want and the program should aspire to. I see a lot of mediocrity here with some occasional flashes of achievement that give the fans hope. Is this what we feel we deserve? What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
