Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

So ... is it safe to say Coach Whitehead has done enough in the second half of this season to earn the right to see out his contract next season? Assuming they don't drop out of the HE playoffs of course, and (based on current form) I can't see them not finishing 6th??

6th? I think you mean 7th...

I think Tim has kept his job unless they lose from here on out and then maybe there is some talk. Marty definitely saved his butt, he has been awesome considering his first 2 years and the options Maine had otherwise. If they lose tonight they still could miss playoffs

Imagine if Marty had played like this last year...

The 4 games...2 wins over BC/comeback tie with PC and the first win @ Alfond in O.T. over UML more or less cemented that TW would be back or his chances a way lot better...plus a Athletic Department that is afraid or has there hands tied(a Donor or two who favors TW)...and as many will point to a Economy that "IF" anyone thought of a Buy-out deal that the State would close shop. He'll be back most likey as a Lame Duck Coach, unless the Hobby A.D. hands him assurances after his present contract that they will re-new his deal with say a 2-3 yr extension....right now I would say and I hate to say it...he'll be back, but lets hope common $ense factors in...if you bring him back for his last yr on his deal that there are NO extensions in the works...it is such a s MESS as this has to be hard to pitch to a recruit about the Coach/Team and the forth coming years....plus you'll see it effects attendence and season/single game sales for next season. But at least Ouellette has come into his own and has performed well after 2 seasons who whats wrong or did they miss on this recruit. But this is still a 9-16-6 team/clinging to the final playoff spot with 5 games left.

I think that Whitehead will get a new 3 year extension over the summer.........most likely, the new contract will be signed on the golf course at PVCC.

Maine just got a couple of solid commitments. One of them won't be here until 2014-2015. And you kind of have to give it a couple years (call it the Ouellette rule?) before deciding whether that class really panned out.

So, realistically, I think you have to extend Whitehead through 2017. Anything less would just be unreasonable.

:p

This kinda talk, even in jest, is not good. It might give people ideas.

No, I don't think TIMMAY's "earned" the right to finish out his contract, but I think he's done enough that the powers that be will not pull the plug. But there better be a replacement search being put in place behind the scenes for when they can let him go after next season.

Down 2-0 after 1, Maine has scored twice early in the second to tie it up.

Rutt on the PP from Shore and O'Connor got the first and Norman got the second even strength 1:45 later (didn't catch the assists)

2-2 after 2.

Maine will start the 3rd with 1:49 of powerplay time.

I heard Cerretani on Norman's goal. Gametracker does not show an assist for BOC.

A split is better than what was expected. At this point the team is going nowhere, been nice to win both but it wasn't very likely.

Seriously??? Playing the #7 team with a playoff spot on the line.......and having played well as of late.........and you think that a split was "better" than expected???

This team isn't good, why would anyone expect them to win any game, anywhere? Especially with Joey out

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

With 4 games left and in 9th place they need wins...they lose the tie breakers to Vermont(season series,2-0-1 VT.)and they are behind UMass(Hockey East wins,2nd tie breaker...season series ended@ 1-1-1)...they more or less(imo)need 3-4 points out of the NU series next weekend @ Orono...as going into UNH for two the following week could be very well be the house of horrors for UMaine(in recent past, not a forgiving barn to play at). All in all it has been a awful season from the get-go...a few highs(Florida Classic)...4 game stretch of wins over BC,come back tie with PC and the ONLY win at Home to date in O.T. vs UML....when you can't win at Home(1 game at Alfond Arena...???? wow to say the least)...then Playoffs are not in the picture, but you have to earn your way in not remember when or remember this...old...really getting old. Hopefully they sit down and REALLY LOOK it over, look at the whole outlook...between you and I and many others...you can't but shake your head and say what do they see..??? I know first and fore-most they will go to we can't and it does not look good to Buy-out...but as I said before look at the whole picture, not next year...but the next 3-4 years....not pretty or getting better because on paper this one or that one recruit is a stud...remember it's the product on the ice and WHO is in charge of this being what it it is....medicore at best with a sprinkle of one season of almost....tick-tock-tick-tock...time for the BYE/BYE sign to go up and get a Rebuilding Process in order...it's time and it will have(many)bumps in the road...no over night change here and winning begins...just in attitude and work ehtic and to push across that there's a NEW Direction in order.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

As the old saying goes, stick a fork in 'em. This season is toast, only question is will they win 10 games? Lets hope not. I cant see them sweeping NU at home and they'll get nothing at UHN as that series is their NC game(s) . All in all its the best thing that could happen towards everyones goal of getting the Whitehead disease out of our system.
