Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

See you guy's don't get TIMMAY's strategy for this season. You see, he knew that there was a great chance that either Providence or UML were going to win HE reg season. So he wanted to be positioned for an 8th place finish in order to play one of them and not have to deal with BC or UHN to get to the Gahdin. The man is brilliant if you ask me. It's that type of foresight that deserves a minimum of a 5 year extention.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

The lack of leadership and vision is embodied in the appointment of joey Diamond as a captain of this years team. The fact that he had a "stiff" back....and didn't even make the trip to Amherst is mind boggling.....You have other players willing to sacrifice and to play with pain...and yet Joey can't even toe the line.....a critical weekend...and a SR CAPTAIN tells staff...he is too sore to play and a 5 hour bus ride would be too much......

This is the type of leader that Whitehead chose....ye shall reap what ye sow......and this is turning into a crop of cowpies.......

you know what... if you know a different reason why diamond did not make the trip, say it... otherwise, you are way off base with all of this.

he took 5 or 6 hard crosschecks to the back from Wade Megan this past weekend, all at once. He already had a bad back and then he took that kind of abuse. I can see where he might need to sit out.

he and cornell are the only two players on the team who DARE to exhibit heart during a game. whether people like it or not, THIS is what a hockey team needs from its leaders... "bad" penalties and all.

I recall only one or 2 "bad" penalties that he took this season, and I can recall many more by other players that were all overlooked by the Joey haters. (how come nobody came down on Number 7 for his goalie interference game-losing call back like they did when Joey was called for the same thing against UVM?)

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Diamond has been a GREAT captain. He does everything he can to help Maine win and anyone that criticizes him should put themselves in his shoes.

cornell plays with heart, but is not vocal
Nemec is physical, but not the kind of guy to clear out a crease like Cornell is and will not get in the face of the opposition.

Pryor
shemansky
Liedermark
one of the Juniors?

who would you have replaced him with?
and when was the last time you saw the team in person? It is not all that easy to tell what Joey does from radio and internet video feeds.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Why are you trying to prove something to me? I don't have an issue with Diamond.......I think that he is awesome. People need to get off this teams' case.........they are trying and putting forth a good effort. Hockey East is the toughest conference in the country.........and it's very tough to compete with Merrimack, Lowell, Providence, etc. for good recruits. Maine fans should just be happy that they have a hockey program.......period.

If you're trying to be funny, you're failing miserably.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I see them a great deal....live and in person....and I see Joey as oportunisitic scorer, which is great, but not exactly the paragon of Defence, I see exceedingly short shifts, which seem to result from a lack of fitness... I don't see a player who anyone on the team looks upto.....if you speak to players, Joey is not a leader.....vocal, example or otherwise....he may have a sore back, but at this time of the year, who doesn't have injuries....players are playing with shoulder injuries, mangled feet, bad backs...and they are all there...Joey isn't. Nice kid, good with fans,,,not a leader...and the fact that Whitehead doesn't see that is exemplary of how he manages game and team Analysis Paralysis......

Diamond is a fine young man and captain.......he will be missed tremendously next season.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

And I'm most disappointed with YOU. You used to support this team through thick and thin.........I know that you DO agree that Whitehead is a tremendous coach. People are WAY to hard on this team........don't you agree?

I think you are the most miserable, myopic human being on the planet. I'm really not kidding.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I know you see them live.. I was asking sandiego.... but he is playing forsyth's old game of just being "positive" to get others to write about reality.

being an opportunistic scorer is not easy... and it is what is on the scoreboard at the end of the game that matters.... maine has a lot of players who cannot put the puck into an open net.. joey can thread a needle from in close and while getting clobbered.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Whether Joey is hurt, a slacker or a bad captain he is still best offensive player on the team. I haven't noticed him taking games off for no reason in his first 3 seasons, I doubt he is now. He certainly isn't Chris Imes ..........as far as being a Captain goes, but this season doesn't lay at his feet

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

It is becoming increasingly evident that BEARNECESSITY has most likely never played a contact sport. Doubt hes ever had any type of significant injury. To imply that DIamond is not tough (mentally or otherwise) is nothing short of comical. Somthing tells me you would not have the b@ll$ to say that to joey in person. I am quite certain of it. You also lose considerable credibility when you say such ignorant things.

If any one would know a troll post when he sees it you would. I think its funny that a poster who has broken this rule as much as you have would now whine about it and have power to remove a "troll post"

Its akin to letting Felons be cops

interestingly my post that pointed out that very fact was quickly taken down, and not by me
... speaking of

I am glad to have seen someone else com to the defense of Joey's use on this year's team.
I think that the good far outweighs the bad.

and I think that that can only be said of about 50% of this year's roster.... really

tell us more about Shawn's words of wisdom... tell us some of the good cop bad cop games that Grant played in?

you have a lot to offer... offer it

I can't believe we've devolved to wondering which of these two are the bigger knucklehead.

I miss the days where I actually cared about the on ice product.

So, I guess that we can't post anything positive about this team anymore???? I really like this team.......it is a hardworking team that is well coached.

Well offer something positive and constructive then.

We can whine and complain about Tim Whitehead all that we want, but as fans supporting the program through thick and thin is the best that we as fans can do.

By the way.......can't believe that Priceless is now in charge of this board. Good grief.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I find it hard to believe that whether you are in the locker room, or on the bench, or on the training table you can accurately chime in on somthing as intimate as a players motivations. As lay-people we are forced to speculate on everything from a players ice time to their state if mind. Ultimately, we know nothing (aside from what we see every fri and sat nite). But this silly discussion aside, i wholeheartedly thank you for taking my delicate sensibilities into consideration and i truly hope all your serious cuts and scrapes have healed well ;)

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I've never seen anything in Joey Diamond to make me believe he was unmotivated or lazy. He almost always looks like he's working hard out there and how often have we seen him lay his body out there to spread some pain to the opposition. He may not have wanted to be a leader out there in the beginning of the season when many of us noted he looked lost, but he's found himself and his game and therefore his ability to lead since then. He's even really reduced his dumb penalties lately...so lay off Joey, at least he gives it all out there.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

whther I played contact sports is irelevant ( but to make your delicate sensibilites more comfortable, played well enough to actually get paid....and played though cuts, and breaks and dislocations) ..Joey is a good kid, and can be offensively solid when motivated....motivation is a gap, in my opinion, and I don't think he is a good captain...and have a very good relationship with young Mr Diamond and know for a fact he wanted nothing to do with being a captain....Motivation and toughness are 2 different things,,,, Joey may be tough...but not playing for the team... My opinion, which is woirth the same as yours....bupkus.....

bizarre posts from a former pro.... truly bizarre... especially from someone with a good relationship with Joey.
[rolleyes]
