LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

It's funny you say that. I was listening to the game as well, and I had no idea that BGSU scored their 4th goal. It was completely silent for a good 15-20 seconds. I thought my feed cut out, then I heard him say something about a face off at center ice and I put 2 and 2 together.

I'm excited for our series this weekend. Looks like you guys have struggled a bit on the road in the CCHA (3-8-3). How do you see this series panning out?

My early predictions:
Friday - WMU 3, LSSU 1
Saturday - LSSU 3, WMU 2
Sunday - WMU 2, LSSU 0

LSSU 21 - 7
LSSU 43-14

OH Wait.... we don't have football....

Yes, if you were paying attention I am sure that somewhere, Truth Squad has already dubunked the LSSU Football myth. Thank goodness for that! All the fundraising for a new football team locker room did seem odd to me. The Lakers have not played a complete road weekend since Miami (although I think they had MSU on the ropes and let those pigs off the hook in the Munn Funeral Parlor). And worse yet, the Lakers have been certifiable dogs on Friday nights on the road all season. So the trend is not good.

But with that said, Western has not exactly been lighting it up in the second half. And they have played a pretty easy schedule.

Splits with BGSU, Fairbanks, Ohio State, and LSSU, and bein swept by Duluth, basically sandwich weekend sweeps by Western against Notre Dame and Ferris.

What does this tell me? Mostly nothing except that like LSSU, Western has just an equal ability to play crappy sloppy hockey as LSSU from time to time. The advantage obviously goes to the Broncos being at home. But like I said earlier, I much prefer a sputtering WMU team to an improving university of California at Ann Arbor team playing in the Yost Urinal.

but let us all be well aware - as TRUTH SQUAD told us: (paraphrasing): Even if the Lakers manage to win their first round series, they will face a tough test in the second round.

(seriously -- chills. That level of insight is, quite frankly, not of this world. Like the High Lama at Shangri-La, gazing out at the world with sympathetic eyes -- he knows a greater truth, if only we would be still long enough, be quiet long enough, be willing to listen hard enough! So many are out there, even today, searching for Shangri-La. And so few ever find that mystical mountain pass leading to the Valley of the Blue Moon. A simple man in southern michigan, who posts under the nom-de-plom as "Truth Squad" is willing to show the way.)

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I think the pots and pans clanging has been great this year. They seem to be very annoying to the visitors bench. Does anyone know why they were silenced by security for a while last night? Fans in my section cheered when they were allowed to resume the noise. As suggested previously, can you imagine the noise if instead of a half dozen or so "clangers", the student section were moved and there were a couple hundred of them behind the visitors bench? That would help with the home ice advantage we need. That and a 2500 seat arena (I'm persistent). I would have liked to see the Laker players go over to these students after the game and salute their efforts. It would be the start of a nice tradition, and show of unity between the players and the student body.

I agree, the pans were a great addition. At the last Western game I attended they were pounding pans also. I think they may have stopped them because they were continuing a little into when play began. The only reason I say that is because they stopped better at the beginning of play afterward. Hopefully it will become a tradition.

My son told me they have been trying move the student section over there, but are unable to because they are required by the NCAA to provide tickets to the visiting team and that is the area they chose to provide them. The students want to be moved from behind the high glass behind the goalie because they cannot be heard as well.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Anyone here going to see the Lakers play at Western Michigan this weekend? Also WMU students are on spring break so that helps the Lakers out.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

It will be interesting to see which Laker team show up this weekend. I thier 'A' team show up, there's a good chance they can win in three. That would give them 20 wins and still a chance at the NCAA Tourney. My god, they're still giving NMU an outside shot, so Lake State shouldn't be far behind, even though they didn't play well against them. If they get swept, then they are (practically) a .500 team, and another season that's a wash. Western has a very similar record, and they're real advantage is home ice and their 'clutch and grab' style. A lot will depend on how the game is called, if they get away with it, it will be very difficult for the Lakers to get quality shots while being tackled around the net. If WMU gets burned, then the Lakers really need the power play to put the Broncos behind the eight ball. The other key will be jumping on them early Friday night. It might take a couple of periods for Western to get their game legs back after the week off. If they use these things to their advantage, and win game one, then anything can happen.

Looking at the WMU site, the students are on break this week. Classes resume Monday. That, coupled with season tic holders having to pay for playoff tickets could lead to lower attendance and the risk of bashing from TS on their thread. Remember a few years ago when the Lakers played there in the first round? I think total attendance for the three games was less than 2,000. Western has been on an upswing so I wouldn't expect it to be that bad this year.

I'll probably get to at least one of the games. The Lakers will need to play really well to have a chance at advancing. Western is a good team.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I think the key for the Lakers has to be Kapalka .
That and not falling behind by more than a goal in any of the games. If they can get the first goal of the game, that can be huge for their confidence. If they wind up playing from behind most of the time, they will likely be in trouble.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

2000 would be a big crowd for the Norris Center with your playoff crowds and the actual attendance more like 500 in the rink. And Western Michigan who was the doormat of the CCHA along with Lake Superior made a coaching change and made the NCAA tournament, will be in a top new conference next year, and finished in the top 4 of the league. Something Lake Superior has not done in seven years under this coach. You people never want to hear that, you just want to bash anyone who doesn't stick to your old warn out good ole boy script up there in your little villiage.

Windmills, meet Don Quixote.

Or, to quote Cervantes in Quixote:

"And the good gentleman was so far gone in his fantasy that neither the touch, the smell, nor anything else . . . which would have made anyone but a muledriver vomit -- disillusioned him in the slightest."

It truly is an impressive crusade of bitterness and bile. You have to tip your cap to the dedication.

Haha! Our thread, such as it is is probably on page 14 or so by now. Joke's on him.

Last year's was 2,660 Friday, 2909 Saturday, 2108 Sunday. I think having the extra week to sell tickets helps, and there was enough students still in town to be heard, just not the usual horde.

Edit: What fans we do have are over at http://csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=491 if you really want to hear from more than just the 2-3 of us over here.

It is quite humerous to me that you people find so much pleasure in ridiculing others on here like former great coaches, potential superstar players who were cut, and their parents who dare defend them. All the while your little college finishes near last place every year, you don't advance to the Joe Louis Arena, you barely can draw 500 people for a home playoff game, your season attendence goes down year after year, and everything and everyone else is the problem. Lakerblue you are the biggest cheerleader on here for this administration and your vitriol bores me and is getting old and tiresome. Enjoy the rest of your season and another season or low expectations and results. It will be over in 5 days.

Oh for the love of Christ... Your Joke soft kid was not a superstar... He was soft... if he was a superstar he would have followed in his brothers foot prints and went to Ohio... He was nothing more then a favor from Frank... Time to get over it and get a life.

Yeah, as bronconick pointed out, there will still be a good chunk of students around.

I wouldn't be surprised if they used 600-800 of their 1,100 tickets. The Lunatics were on Winter Break for the Duluth series, but the student section still sold out for the Friday game. Obviously that's comparing Apples and Oranges, but it will still be a rowdy environment this weekend.

I'm going to guess around 3,100 for both nights. 2,200 if there's a game Sunday.

Rah Rah Sisk-Boom-Bah! GOOOOOOOOO Dunbar!

(That is as good a cheerleader imitation as I can give. And really, honestly, NOBODY, including my wife, wants anything to do with me in a short skirt).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Good news is there is a charter bus of Laker students headed down for the games. Not sure if there is any other charters or convoys headed down. Apparently students that go will only have to pay a small fee for the bus but Student Government and Activities Board are picking up the bill for the actual tickets to BOTH games (not sure if they what their plan is if it goes to 3). I would imagine that students are paying for own hotel rooms or some fee for that as well. But last I saw they only have a few spots left on the bus and its not even midweek. Great job up there!!!

EDIT: Got some more info. They are going down for the Saturday game and will stay the night and go to the Sunday game if there is one. The bus is FULL though! They filled the last 14 spots in about 2 hours.

Hook a pup to that bus to carry those pots and pans.

Ok truth I give up. The word is spelled humorous.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

No. Take the pots and pans on the bus and bang them all the way to the hotel. You'll find out really quick who wants to cheer for this team. :p

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

It sounds like quite a few Laker fans are heading down for the series, I'm sure the team will enjoy that. I'm going but i really hope the Lakers win it in two. Truth are you going ? We can arrange a get together with all true Laker fans should be fun.
