My predictions for the weekend:
Ferris over Bowling Green in 2
Michigan over Notre Dame in 2
Lakers over Western Michigan in 3
Miami over Michigan State in 3

Also I think NMU fans might be really rooting for us this weekend.

We're very forgiving! But since you did root for BG last weekend, you can lose 1 game! Best of luck, safe travels, and if you're staying downtown, don't miss the Studio Grill, Olde Peninsula Brewery and the Beer Exchange, where prices on draft change like the stock market!

Thanks, davyD. NMU has always been one of my favorite 3 universities in the upper peninsula. You guys had a very similar season as LSSU. It's just a matter of getting it rolling at the right time.

Absolutely. It looks like it will be a very interesting playoff from here. Might be nice to see some Yoopers next week at the Joe! Whatever the case and whomever advances, it was a pretty good year for UP college hockey. When the new WCHA comes about in 2013, LSSU looks like it will be a pretty strong team, as will Tech, and NMU will be in contention too. Who knows, when the first WCHA 2.0 tourney comes about, it wouldn't be shocking to see 2 or 3 of the UP schools in that final 4!

Apparently students that go will only have to pay a small fee for the bus but Student Government and Activities Board are picking up the bill for the actual tickets to BOTH games (not sure if they what their plan is if it goes to 3). I would imagine that students are paying for own hotel rooms or some fee for that as well. But last I saw they only have a few spots left on the bus and its not even midweek. Great job up there!!!

EDIT: Got some more info. They are going down for the Saturday game and will stay the night and go to the Sunday game if there is one. The bus is FULL though! They filled the last 14 spots in about 2 hours.

Not sure the coach wants anybody to go. At least, he chose to leave the non playing players behind.
If they want to show their team spirit, they can do it at their own expense.

Just asking : What kind of team building trick is that ?

If I can't bring some guys with me, I will probably cancel my trip.

Dictionary definition of pointless:

1. without a point
2. without meaning, relevance, or force; senseless; inane.

I am, by most standards of contemporary culture, a dull person. I know this as an absolute fact because of what I am about to write:
As an academic exercise, I find it so thrilling to see an online poster actually draft, and publish, a post which actually manages to touch on every item found in the dictionary meaning of "pointless."

Oh, there are many pointless postings. But in this swirling beehive of insipid quasi-college hockey commentary, it truly is a rare animal indeed that manages to touch on ALL of the potential definitions of pointless in one swing! Stunning. And I ask myself, "Why can't more people strive harder to post messages which embody the fullfillment of an entire dictionary definition? Is Mabelle just showing off? Is Mabelle actually trying to make other LSSU students and alumni and fans look bad? And if she is just trying to make everyone look bad, isn't this really just an indictment of the LSSU educational system? And isn't THAT an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to her badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

The Lakers need to play tonight with more urgency, like they really don't want the season to end. They didn't generate many quality shots on goal last night. Give Western credit; they are a good defensive team. During the brief spurts where the Lakers did pressure Western, they still weren't able to get many good shots at net. Key point of the game was the end of the first period and the beginning of the second. Lakers lost a puck battle along the boards which turned into a killer goal for the Broncos at the end of the first; then Ciotti missed the net for the Lakers on a great scoring opportunity early in the second that could have tied the game back up. Lakers generally looked pretty sluggish most of the second period, and once Western went up by 2 they tightened up their D even more. The late goal by Sternberg gave the Lakers a little life, but they couldn't follow through on that. Kapalka made some big saves to keep them in the game in both the second and third, but he needs to be better tonight for the Lakers to have a chance. The first Western goal is one he'd like to have back. He was too far back in the net and gave the Western player too much room to shoot at. Lakers need to be stronger on the puck, both offensively and defensively.

I agree. Kalpalka needs to have a strong night. I thought pulling KK with about 1:30 left was a good move and the initial pressure was good, yielding a couple of chances. However, with less than 30 seconds left they surprisingly iced the puck and that pretty much was the game. Lakers have had a lot of Saturday night success this year so let's see if they can move it to game three.

Haines was evidently trying to take a long shot on net to hopefully get a face off in the Broncos end, but unfortunately he shot it over the top of the net and thus the icing call. I thought he had room coming up the ice to reach the red line and shoot in in deep, but he tried for the shot and missed.

The offense is key tonight. The Lakers have scored just three goals the last two games (ENG in the 2nd Alaska game doesn't count). Not gonna cut it. The Lakers need more Grade A shots. If not, season over tonight.
