LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Looking forward to the series this weekend, although I don't think anybody is sweeping anybody. I'll admit I've always admired Lake State's program from afar.

From our perspective, we had probably our best game all year in a general pasting of Notre Dame two weeks ago (although we flubbed the finale the next night), and last weekend outplayed Western Michigan in Kalamazoo for five out of six periods. It's been a tough year in terms of bounces not going our way; most of us were expecting a top 4 or 5 finish in the CCHA. I have to give our coaches and team credit; they have not mailed it in despite being stuck in 10th and still bring it every night.

My gut says LSSU leaves Fairbanks on Sunday with points, but no sweep.

Likely. Its hard to sweep on the road in the CCHA -- especially this year. And the Lakers haven't swept anyone on the road for most of the year. So perhaps a sweep is asking waaaay too much.

I am not actually predicting a sweep as much as I am HOPING for a sweep.

No matter what I predict, hope, or wish -- the fact is that the Lakers need to win games at this juncture of the season. The more, the better. And a sweep in Fairbanks would (obviously) be a big step in the direction of finishing in the Top 4.

You are a lier... Your kids is a bad hockey player... GO AWAY!!!! No one wants you here just like NO ONE wanted a lazy pathetic excuse for a forward on the ice at LSSU... You use to be funny cause your vitrial for LSSU and the Coaching staff is so obvious, but now you are just sad... Same posts over and over and over and over and FREEKING over .... Little Village... Pathetic people... Fran Anzalone .... BLAH BLAH BLAH it's the same S#!t over and over again... Go get a hobby... Look at Porn... buy a dog... SOMETHING ANYTHING PLEASE!!!! LSSU is one sweep away from first place in mid Feb... the last time that happened Nik was good enought to make his mite travel team (they don't have to go into corners in mites) .... Either enjoy it or go away... This is not about Jim, Frank, Nik, Neils, or You Mr. Sellers... This is about 26 young men putting it all out on the ice every night trying to do something that has not been done since Jeff Jackson led the team to 2 of it's 3 National Titles (or as you say Frank's 3) ... Time to REALLY move on... Your kid stunk he got cut... he also got an education let it go you are just way WAY too bitter....

Eric Hill? Local Boy. Promised a walk-on spot by Coach Anzalone. After two years of sitting in the press box, he moved on with his life. Yup -- sometimes even local boys are invited to play D-1, and sometimes even local boys can't make the cut.

Jeff Oke? Who was a very good scoring winger with Bowmanville prior to coming to LSSU. Pretty tough kid, never cracked Frank Anzalone's lineup -- despite being brought to the team by Coach Anzalone. Sometimes kids just can't cut it in D-I hockey. Don't feel bad for Jeff, though. He sure didn't waste time whimpering about his inability to break into D-I hockey. He merely played four years in CIS for the Canadian Royal Military College, which is extremely tough to get into . Smart kid. Good hockey skills. Even brought to town to play for the Lakers by the beloved Frank Anzalone. Just wasn't a D-I player.

Brian Gibes, a nice looking downstate kid from Warren, Michigan. Frank promised him a spot on the team, and then never played the kid. Well thought of, decent student, respected. But he wasn't a D-I player.

Ok . . . I don't like to tease the dog, but I was morbidly curious and, this morbid curiosity neatly combined with a steadfast desire to avoid work, so I found ten seconds in my day to click on Mr. Truth Squad's USCHO poster "profile."

Nothing there of interest, although I was half-hoping for a funny joke or some sort of snarky comment.

I did, however, see this item and it made me laugh in its simplicity:

"Friends: Truth Squad has not made any friends yet."

Sometimes the cold, heartless calculated pre-fabricated language of computers sums up feelings better than a John Donne sonnet.

Anyhow, on to more important things (which, at this case I admit could and would be ANYTHING) . . . Our boys are up in Fairbanks. I think its fair to say that while our Lakers have risen above preseason predictions, the Nanooks have not met their goals. Don't let that record fool you -- a quick review of the schedule shows that UAF struggled in october and November (going 1-7-2 in that stretch). Since then, the Nooks are 7-7-2. They are maddeningly up and down at home, so that might bode well for the Lakers.

They have played better of late, but the Lakers have a nice defensive system working right now which tends to highlight struggling teams' foibles. Let us hope the Lakers can find the net and maybe -- MAYBE -- get a two goal lead early.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Nice win by the team tonight. Hopefully they can complete the sweep.

Yes, VERY nice win for the Lakers. Finally getting some offense going, and beat a pretty good team in Alaska on the road. Now they need to smell the blood in the water and come out intense tomarrow night and complete the sweep. They are in a three-way tie with UM and MSU with 38 points, and a win tomarrow would really make it an interesting series against Western. If the Taffey isn't packed next weekend, then something is definately wrong. They need wins, and they still have an outside chance of making the NCAA Tourney depending on how they do in the CCHA playoffs.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

It was great tonight, i actually got to watch a Lakers game!! The game was broadcast live on the GCI channel up here in Alaska. Team looked real good, and KK made some real nice saves. The PP goal to make it 4 was a thing of beauty too. Anyhow, hopefully they broadcast tomorrow night too and not a Seawolves game.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Great win last night! Looks like the Friday night curse is over. I'll be very excited if the Lakers get the sweep tonight. With a
Laker win, a Western and Ferris loss, the Lakers could possibly battle for first place next weekend!

They really could use the sweep. The standings are so close that a loss tonight could drop them back down several places. At this point in the season they need sweeps, not splits.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Murdock has played well tonight after taking over for Kapalka. He made two great saves right after Ciotti tied the game.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Thanks, any updates are appreciated. The 'live stats feed' is stuck at 2-0 after the first. Have no idea whats going on in the game now!!!

Lakers lost 3-2. Alaska scored on a rebound after Murdock made two saves with about 6 minutes to go. The goal came less then 30 seconds after Monardo had a goal waived off because Jean was in the crease.

MacParland had a great chance to tie the game with about 3 minutes left. He was all alone in front, the top of the net was wide open, but he shot it right into the pad of Greenham.

Thanks for the updates, it's appreciated. Again, the Lakers can't take advantage of a team lower in the standings, and will fall lower in the National Rankings, Pariwise, and CCHA ladder. This team simply is not getting the job done the second half of the season as usual. This is a series they had a real solid chance of sweeping. Now they have to get points from a very good Bronco team, and face a good Northern team on the road. I don't see them sweeping either of these series with the way they're playing.

The Lakers were 17th in the Pairwise going into the game, but dropped back to 20th with the loss.

Just so you guys know, I got to watch the game tonight and the officials blew it tonight. I dvr'd it and I watched the third period twice now and there was uncalled tripping on Alaska on three different occasions including leading directly into the score. And the stretch of thirty seconds where jean and pobur both "lost" their sticks, it wasn't butterfingers, jean had his stick ripped from his hands and pobur was slashed. Truly pathetic officiating in the third, which is sad because the officials did so good all weekend.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

It looks like your little college is poised for another 8th or 9th place finish, and a second half collapse under this administration. I find it humerus that you people blame the refs after every loss. Sounds like the second string goalie didn't get the job done and Ravn might have been a better choice, but we know why he didn't play.

Warm up those clubs.
