Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Though it hasn't made it to this discussion thread yet, that info has been on the LSSU website for the past couple of weeks. An excellent gesture set fourth and an outstanding way for anyone interested to automatically double their contribution to the LSSU hockey program. (And there are direct links for donating on the lssu.edu website)

I kind of find it surprising that this even got pub in one of the Detroit area news rags... But no complaints here, we'll take it!

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

So last night I played in the Plymouth Michigan Men's Beer Hockey Association.... We played against Miller High Life and their superstar Nik Selloff .... That kid is good.... I don't understand how he got cut at LSSU... I mean he was always in front of the net (even when the puck was in the corner). He would just coast around the ice (even when everyone else was skatig hard). He scored 3 goals and got 2 assists inspite of the fact that he never went into the corner and never hustled... WHAT A SUPER STAR.... I think a lot of it has to do with coaching... His new Coach on Miller High Life is Frank Anzaloone .... He led LSSU to a championship when no one else was following college hockey, and that game has past him by, but I will say this... As the bench boss for MHL in the PMMBHA he is a GOD ....

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Good win by the Lakers tonight. The USA's have a lot of talent, and can really move the puck around. Lakers came out tough in the third and took the game back. I thought Murdock actually played pretty well once he was able to settle in. I can't remember last time he saw game action, anyway. TJ Wees looked pretty solid, too, after only seeing limited time this season.
The rest of the schedule will be tough, but there's no reason they can't pull out a top four finish in the league.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

TJ Wees played real good down in Big Rapids this year too. I'm kinda shocked he hasn't played again untill last nights exibition game.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I would have liked to see all 3 goalies get a period of play last night. Either that or Murdock and Ravn have split the duties and Kapalka had the night off.

I knew K2 wouldn't get the night off. Probably don't want him to have any rust for the Alaska series. Also I'm sure Kapalka starts every game from here on out.

Bill, that makes sense, but there are things you don't know. Roque won't let Ravn play because he doesn't want to jeopardize his efforts to make him quit.
Considering his usual reactions when Bill Crawford recognizes somebody he resents, it is likely that he was annoyed when Crawford interviewed Ravn and insinuated that he deserves ice time.

I thought scholarships had to be renewed each year? Why not just not renew his scholarship?
I doubt he is getting much scholarship money. Marble won't come in next season unless Kapalka leaves early. If Kapalka stays all 4 years, the goalie issue would become a factor the season after next, with potentially 4 goalies. As has been mentioned, it appears Roque is hoping Ravn will leave on his own. Roque recruited Ravn, but for whatever reason he changed his mind about Ravn's role as a Laker goalie; I think he did so before the start of Ravn's freshmen season. The sensible thing for Roque to do would have been to tell Ravn (prior to his starting school at LSSU) that he would be better off looking elsewhere to play college hockey, but evidently he didn't do that.

That's a really strange reaction. Are you encouraging dirty tricks against a deserving player and student ?
Ravn's situation is shameful enough for our school and those who are proud of it.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

These people on here and up there will stop at nothing to keep that man as coach. Have you read some of the vitriol on here lately? Sad that it seems to be happening again to a young man up at your little college.

Hey guess what Sellers... People get cut .... People that don't deserve to be there have to go... It's REAL LIFE.... If you don't pull your weight at work what happens???? You get fired.... If you can't stop a shot in warm ups, or don't go into the corners during the game, or don't work hard... YOU GET CUT... It is a fact of life... Not everyone gets a participant ribbon... We keep score... we have winners and Sellers ... er I mean Losers... So He guess what... If you can't hang at the D1 College level you have two choices... Leave for D3 or stay and let your daddy cry on the message board on your behalf.... Again I go back to a comment I made a while ago... IF he wants to actually play hockey ... He will leave and go somewhere that his services are going to be used. Or maybe he can just stay at LSSU and tell everyone how he's screwing the Program by keeping his scholarship money... who would do something like that???? OH yeah Plymouth Michigan Beer League Hockey stand out Nik Smellers...

Tooth Squid ,do you actually know this is Sellers parent and if not,you sure as hell are running Sellers into the dirt and that is as bad if not worse than what truth is doing.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

You know what is worse than Truth Squad's nonsense about Crazy Frank?

Answer: Third String Goalie playing time.

Seriously -- I assume some people herein are either his friends, or girl friend, or whatever . . . but enough already, OK? I don't hear about any of the other players' playing time, including those who are on scholarships and who are also not exactly getting lots of minutes -- so I must assume that there are persons herein with personal agendas who wish to support this young man. Great. But really, truthfully, nobody cares.

Nobody outside of a few random posters herein care, in any way shape or form, about Ravn's playing time. Nobody. Silliness incarnate. Nobody cares. Is it shameful to program that a third-string goalie is sitting on the bench? Come on, seriously?

I have never seen so much hand wringing about a 3rd string goalie in my whole life -- ever. Ever. Ever. What meaningless tripe upon which to concern ourselves. Our Lakers are having their best season in over a decade, with a real chance at some post-season glory.

And I log onto the USCH to see my fellow Lakers worrying about Nik Freaking Sellers and a 3rd String goalie?

Come on people . . .

Ah, if life was so simple that everything was black and white. As far as our 3rd string goalie is concerned, what makes you think the issue is strictly a matter of playing time?

Come on Lakerblue; that is a disappointing short sighted post coming from you. You are off-target, and you should know it.

May be some people are closer to Frank Anzalone, Joe Shawhan, Bill Crawford or a long list of players including Barchuk, Sellers or Ravn, so what ?
This doesn't change the facts and attitude, and a bunch of nasty tricks.
You probably consider that the end justifies the means, but then you are not very ambitious ... and I would advise you to choose the right means.

I wonder if Crawford is going to bring up his opinion of lack of playing time for Ravn on the coaches show on Monday?
