Really!

That's surprising to hear considering that if NMU sweeps FSU, NMU would still be one point behind LSSU as LSSU is idle. But if FSU sweeps NMU, FSU will be 8 points ahead of LSSU.

Any LSSU fan that wants their team to stay in the hunt for a top four position in the CCHA should be rooting for NMU this weekend.

Ferris has an easier schedule AND has two games in hand on us. I doubt we will catch them.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

With all the injuries the Lakers have they did quite well this weekend. They played three lines and some that should not have dressed but played through the pain.

I have nothing but respect for this team.
Given that Ainsworth didn't play despite the additional injuries to our forwards, it seems like Roque should go ahead and redshirt him. There's only 3 series left in the regular season. If he hasn't played him as a replacement for an injured player by now, I doubt he will play him the rest of the way.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

What a great weekend of hockey, eh? Taking 5 of 6 points from OSU was fantastic.

This weekend put the Lakers in a very good spot to finish strong. The standings are bunched, and there are some teams with games in hand that will reshuffle the deck this coming weekend. But all in all, I think the Lakers have scrapped for points in a tough, tough schedule and find themselves in a decent spot, at least for home ice in the first round and a decent match-up in the second round. Obviously, I think we'd all like to see a first-round bye and host a second round playoff series -- but at the bare minimum the Lakers are poised to host SOME playoff round.

In my opinion, this season is really building off last season. I can see the progression. The passes are crisper.

Something that we were all talking about at the Game on Saturday night: The break-out is ESPECIALLY much improved. Last season was the first time in years, it felt, that the break out was able to accomplish the "Scotty Bowman Basic Breakout" of "D to D, quickly to moving Forward at center ice." And for years, it seemed the best our Lakers could do on many, many common break-outs was "up the glass and out."

I was a slow footed D-man myself, and I appreciate the simple beauty of "up the glass and out." Sometimes you just have to clear your line. But in NCAA hockey, you have to be skilled enough to string two-three passes together, depsite a charging forecheck and well-coached center ice defensive coverage.

And the Lakers were greatly improved last year at this simple task. This year they are night and day from last year.

Its little things like that which give me such hope for the program. This is fundementally good, sound, well coached hockey.

Interestingly -- these games against WMU and NMU are going gigantic for the PWR. Both NMU and WMU are on the bubble, and LSSU is currently on the outside looking in. But they are only a few percentage points away from each other.

Attention Laker Hockey Fans...... One of our own has gone missing and we all need to band together to find this GREAT Laker supporter... This poor wayward soul has lost his way, and I think we can all help him find his way back home. He was last seen in Plymouth Mi. Walking around in a circle muttering something about that little village, bad attendance, his poor little boy, Frank Anzalone, and 1988.... Please give a hand to a Laker Supporter who is second to none... TRUTH SQUAD!?!?!??! Where are you?????? TRUTHY!!!!! Come back.... We need an update on the Quad City Mallards, and the Plymouth Michigan Men's Allstar Hockey Association.... I want to know how that All American Superstar Nik Smellers did in his game Friday night at 11pm vs Pabts Blue Ribbon... I bet he had 4 goals 6 assists and was a plus 56. It's a good thing that league is a NO HITTING league... WOW What a superstar... Now is he still wearing his Bird Cage from his LSSU Days? I mean he is too pretty to take a puck to the face... That would be tragic.... Hey Truthy... Lakers took 5 out of 6 points from Ohio State... 9 out of 12 Points from Miami of Ohio and incase you didn't see it yet... Here are the CCHA Standings as of right now....

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I believe Lake State got shafted in this weeks rankings .

Maybe Truth Boy is bribing the media people lol.

Lakers need to split at Alaska, sweep WMU at home, and split at NMU.

I wonder if Murdock will start Friday to give K2 some rest? I would guess he will start the rest of the games from here on out.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Anyone hear the Laker Hockey Show this evening? If so, what did Crawford and Roque talk about? Anything of note?

The last time they swept anyone was Oct 27-28 at Miami. Their only home sweep was Oct 13-14 against MSU. That's not the type of results that will keep them very high in the rankings.

You're right, Bill. 5 of 6 against a higher ranked opponent is squat. If you want to get rewarded, get the sweep and 6 points.

For some reason,Ohio State has managed to hold on to 10th and they have not won a game since December30th when they beat Robert Morris and only 2 games in their last 11 and zero in Januaury . Somehow beating the 6th place team in the nation over the weekend and tying the next night should not have been a demotion in the rankings.

I was about to post this earlier but I didn't know how you would react to it. The only way you could justify demoting Lake St. would be also dropping OSU to the 15-17 range. makes no sense.

Look at it this way. The Lakers are a .500 club in CCHA play. Overall they are 3 games over but have played a pretty weak non-conference schedule. Miami and MSU both started slow but then got better, especially Miami. The Lakers started well, but have been lukewarm for the past few months. Yah, OSU has been in a slump lately, but they are still 3 games over .500 in league play, 6 games over .500 overall. And face it, the big name programs are going to get a little favoritism in the (voted upon) rankings. If we want to be higher in the rankings, we have to win more games, pure and simple. Timing is important also. Winning most of your games later rather than early in the season normally helps in the rankings, although overall wins/losses is also a key; OSU racked up enough wins before the holidays to keep them ranked fairly high, but they can't expect to hold their position (or improve) if they don't start winning again.

I agree, Bill. The Lakers had the same opportunities to bank some early wins like OSU did, but failed to do so. They probably should have swept BG, Bemidji, and NMU at home, swept Canisius on the road (win, tie), and maybe should have picked up a solid victory at Michigan State. Those extra few wins would help their overall ranking, and the league wins would put them comfortabley (sort of...) at the top of the CCHA. They are a good team, but far from a really good team. The effort is there, but they still turn the puck over way too much, and miss wide open nets. I think they hit three or four posts on Saturday. Kapalka is really heating up, and it's good to see him start to steal a few games, but the offense needs to back him up with pucks in the net. If this team showed some killer instinct and start putting some teams away, it would be nice. We've seen what they're able to do when the hit that extra gear. It's hard to mantian that for a full 60 min. but that's what they're going to have to do most nights to beat the more skilled teams in this league.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

They just need to keep winning and let the chips fall. All rankings -- other than the PWR -- are meaningless fodder anyhow.

The PWR is where the Lakers need to make moves -- and beating WMU and NMU are important.

As for schedule -- the Lakers have the 13th toughest schedule in the country (according to the PWR factors). And that includes otherwise-not tough games against Canisius and UAH. What matter for the PWR (and of course doesn't factor at all in the "voting" rankings) is that at least those alleged cake games were on the road. As were Vermont and RIT. The only NC home series was against Bemidji. (The Beaver's are very up and down this year -- but they can claim wins over Denver, Miami, North Dakota, SCSU, and LSSU (and a sweep of a much-improved Tech) -- and these things factor in the PWR figuring SOS).

So the PWR are the most important ranking chart upon which to place your worries.

More importantly -- LSSU needs to win enough to get to the Joe, and then keep winning.

If the Lakers keep winning, and win the playoffs, then its academic. everyone is happy, the team is winning, and the NCAA is in our future.

If the Lakers lose more than they win in the next four weeks, then the rankings really won't matter, anyhow.

For those of you who are like me and are very worried about what happened to our good friend Truthy Sellers he has been found... He was at the Plymouth Michigan home for young boys. It appears that he was playing the role of Jerry Sandusky and got caught... He will be doing 25 years in Pound me in the ... Prison... We wish him all the best in his new adventures.
