Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

We find it hard to beleive that a 1-2 game is going down this coming weekend and it isn't webcast ..... Really. C'mon you guys put a man on the moon.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Say What? Strange but true, if the playoff teams were picked following last weekend’s play, we would have some newcomers to the final 7. Based on Pairwise Rankings and NCAA criteria, here are the brackets.

Code:
#6 Concordia Wis. At #1 St. Catherine
#5 Lake Forest At #4 River Falls

#3 Norwich At #2 Elmira
NR Middlebury
Now the tricky part is where the finals are held. If St. Catherine wins, than they host at Ridder Arena with games on Thursday and Saturday. D-I Final Four is also at Ridder Arena with games on Friday and Sunday. Pretty slick wouldn’t you say? If St. Catherine were to lose, than Middlebury hosts. Reason – just because:eek: !!!

Say What? We do get a great #25 - #26 game tonight supposedly. OH MY, is Gojackets going to be JACKED!!!;)

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Polarbear2 reports on another thread that Bowdoin will be webcasting 38 womens/mens games on their 09/10 schedule.

Why would an institution like Plattsburgh not jump on board & follow suit? Instead we need to follow along with their antiquated "Live" stats reporting of each game?

As stated on their website: Plattsburgh has captured two of the last three NCAA crowns and seven ECAC West titles since 2004, and is coming off a 22-5-2 campaign.

You would think given that record one would be able to watch them from afar...

Platty get with the program.

mistake on my part:o The actual number is 17..I've corrected it on the NESCAC thread..

Regardless...@ least the institution has the wherewithall to see the benefits of webcasting some of their games.

I'm embarrassed for the teams that don't.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

I would think all the college would use the games for student training with communication majors. I would think especially the larger DIII schools kids are studying to actually do play by play and other media. Manhattenville does it right with camera angles on play by play. What a perfect work study job for a AV major.

Exactly! I don't get it.

There may be an underlying reason...don't want your opponents to have access to actual game film perhaps?

I would hate to think that's the case however.....

Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

It would seem that most DIII schools already have a large willing group of students willing to "do" the broadcasts. They certainly all would have the equipment and technology resources available. There would be minimum investment on the part of the school. So: Why not?

Great question...

Here is a plausable answer. If a communications department starts covering womens hockey (assuming they already cover men's), what is the next sport that says "why not us too". Some schools have quite a few venues to set up and that is a lot of resources (not just the camera).

Just a thought...

Could be. However I know when we were being recruited one question we asked each school was...Do you webcast your home games? This may have little consequence to those who live close and can travel to many of the games however for those that don't have that luxury it is somewhat important. Not a deal breaker but....

Haven't let that be a concern of college selection on our part. In our situation, I don't think I've seen my daughter play but a dozen or so games (live) in the past 3 years at boarding school. Webcast would be nice, but I've just gotten used to waiting for the report after the game...

Ya don't get me wrong here it didn't rate extremley high on the selection process however it is a perk.

Is there not a rule that home teams must provide video of past games to other teams.? Recall hearing something to that affect at least in D1. Not sure if this also applies to D3.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Say What? A rather sleepy weekend for competitive teams in competitive games:
ECAC-East
St Anselm takes four points on the road against NEC and Salve Regina
ECAC-West
Elmira takes three points on the road against Plattsburgh
RIT has a dominating four points at home against Potsdam
NCHA
Stevens Point on the road brings Concordia Wis down to earth with four points
River Falls manages a split at home against Superior
MIAC
Concordia takes four points at home against St Olaf
NESCAC
Maybe next weekend
:)

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

LPowers & Tweedle Dee report on another thread that all RIT games will either be webcast on B2 networks or TWCS this year.

Way to go RIT!

We all know about Platty's situation. What about the rest of the ECAC East/West teams?

Anybody else know if their respective teams are webcasting?

Say What? Take this for what it is worth as it is just my opinion:eek: (I'm in trouble already) , but having had the opportunity to speak with both women’s and men’s head hockey coaches and the AD separately on several occasions, it is my firm belief that the three are living in their own little narcissistic worlds and could care less what outside people think or see of their programs. As long as the Championships keep rolling in, be d***ed with 21st century technology or for that matter what they do and how they do it.;)

I guess Plattsburgh is counting those meaningless ECAC West regular season championships because they surely haven't won seven ECAC West tournament titles.

Try two to Elmira's six.:)

Having someone with a single, usually hand held video camera focusing on the puck is much different than putting together a webcast/broadcast.
