Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

UWRF brought a pretty rowdy bunch to the FF at Middlebury last year. They actually put the Middlebury faithful to shame in the 3rd place game.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Here's something from an NCAA press release from a couple of years ago. this is a regular season record, and I think Plattsburgh also set the playoff record that same year....

" Plattsburgh recently set a Division III women's regular-season attendance record of 1,736 fans who witnessed a 4-1 win over two-time defending champion Middlebury on Feb. 8. The game coincided with a "Stuff Stafford" marketing campaign, challenging the community to be part of history as the top two teams in Division III women's hockey battled at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The crowd size also nearly doubled the previous school record. "

That looks like the regular-season attendance record but Elmira holds the playoff record with 2,335.

Don't pick on the Middlebury faithful, I thought the UWRF crowd put all the other groups to shame.

...umh..Hampster, remember that Midd was on March break then? Poor timing for a NCAA Championship in the woods for sure -- you could hear the sap dripping, and if you hadn't a been there -- you wouldn't have heard any trees falling. The place echoed, and I loved the UWRF fans' energy -- they arrived in one Saturn and a overstuffed van, and about 30 kids spilled out of it like the clown car at a Ringling Bros. circus -- no money, no place to stay -- but amazing spirit, and I think the kids left on campus found them some nourishment, pillows & racks and gas money to get back.

since this is a tidbits blog.
rank the top 5 to 10 hockey rinks in DIII

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Has any player male or female, ever transfered fro a D3 program to a D1 program?

Kirsti Anderson (22-42-64 her first two seasons at Bowdoin as a D) transferred to Dartmouth (where she was 1-22-23 in two seasons). I always felt the '03-'04 Polar Bears, who went 20-5-1 (losses to Manhattanville, Middlebury, DI Clarkson and Plattsburgh twice-including 2-1 in the NCAA quarter final at Plattsburgh) just might have won the NCAA had she not left.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Melanie Salatino had 61 points her freshmen year at UW-Superior and then transferred to MSU mankato where she had 18, 26, 19 her last 3 years.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of which D3 teams carry their home games via webcast on either fasthockey or a local provider. I see Utica & Elmira do but it doesn't appear that say Plattsburgh does.

As far as NCHA goes
UW-Superior broadcasts most games on www.ifan.tv
UW-Eau Claire has live stats here
Lake Forest has live stats and occasional video here

Those were the only ones I could find for NCHA

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

the only rinks i can think of around here with advantages are the ones with just plain crappy ice. i don't wanna name rinks cause some people might be sore about it. other than that, around here a lot of refs travel a bit for games. i see a lot of the same good refs and a lot of the same crappy refs all over the mid-west

wow, i didn't read these before... i wanna thank you guys from all of the UWRF fans for the compliments! (at least i think they're compliments) and yeah, we piled into 2 minivans and a small sedan. i think we had 15 students total drive out. plus parents and families, most of which flew. you are right, most of us didn't have squat for money, and half of us slept in our vehicle the friday cause we drove all through the night.
