Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

OK Thanks for the info gojackets. I never knew that.

I can see a team forfeiting because their bus hit the ditch...but because they got beat?

I'd fire the coach on the spot.

In those cases they didn't just get beat...they got womanhandled..and you don't know who made the decision to forfeit..was it the coach, the AD, the players

Chatham was also only skating 11 at that time.

OK, fixed it, :)

Just curious but does anyone know who picks the 3 game stars found on collegehockeystats.net?

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

Oh OK, so that explains how Platty gets all 6 stars in 2 really closley contested hockey games.

Yikes! So much for off ice officials being impartial.

Plattsburgh used to give every media member in the press box a vote for the three stars of the game.

However, in my last two trips to the Stafford; for the women's Frozen Four in 2008 and for the Oswego/Plattsburgh regular season men's game in December 2008 they did not pass around a ballot like in year's past.

Not sure why the changed their policy but I always thought it was pretty cool they gave everyone a vote. Only rink I've been at where they have done that.

I'm fairly sure I know why they changed it...

since you have to keep ranting about these things...i did a little research..you bastard(i have better things to be doing) :D

1. No one in the west at D3 level lists their 3 stars

Of the teams that post their 3 stars
1. The winning team usually gets all 3 stars
2. In a tie game the home team generally gets 2 of the 3
3. In some close games the winning team got 2 of the 3 and the losing team generally got the third star.
4. In cases of a close game, if the loser was the home team they generally got one star, if the winner was the home team they generally got 3.

5. In 13 home wins last year Plattsburgh got all 3 stars in 11 of the games. The 2 games where the opposing team got the 3rd star, both players were goalies who had kept their team in the game.

I'm crushed. I hope you meant to put a little smily face beside your first comment...

Secondly, you mean like Elmira's goalie did in the second game?

I'd have to agree with you. This is college hockey for heaven's sake - if you can't handle a butt kickin' then you don't deserve to be on the ice - EVER!Throwing in the towel shouldn't be an option.

Perhaps because after the game they didn't have enough available players for the next day. Happens sometimes with VT high schools, and at that point in time, I think those teams had pretty thin rosters.

Stars of the game has about as much standing as forum fan polls!

By the way, I saw Caitlin get a goal and assist this weekend. She is a freshman impact player for Elmira!

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

I know this is D3, but what do you make of the D1 decision by the ADs to postpone last weekends UNH/UVM contest in Burlington VT?

It was postponed because the UNH team had a number of players with the flu.

Perhaps I am being parochial, but I think that if UVM (a perennial cellar-dweller) had had a lot of players out with the flu and had to travel to Durham -- the call would have been "too bad, so sad -- you lose some, you lose some more", but since UNH had only one loss on the season and was looking at a potential loss or tie in two away games with less than key talent or with not-so-healthy key players -- they managed to get both games rescheduled. Can't let a top team get swept by a virus.

I can't believe with the rosters these D1 teams carry that even a 30-35% flu rate (which would be excessive) can jeopardize their ability to play. Has anyone else seen these kind of postponements so far, or ever?

Set me straight, or support me in my thinking.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

BTW -- I think RIT really went beyond sportsmanship in running it up that high.
If that was a CT high school football coach, they would have suspended him/her. Did that have to do with the crazy number of penalties handed out the night before and the RIT team was looking for revenge? I don't get it.

Re: Little Known Facts and D-III Tidbits 09-10!

I have to agree with Mr. Kitty. I think 17 goals is excessive in a hockey game. Can you imagine how those girls felt losing that badly. To lose is one thing. To get beat by 17 goals....well to me that's not necessary.

Plattsburgh travels to Potsdam tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how that game score goes......

Simple enough.. 17 goals was payback for rough play. In the two games there were 57 infractions called. 34 minor penalties on Friday. On Sat 2 majors and a game suspension in the third period with 5 minors in the last minute. There were many infractions that were let go, too. If you didn't see it, then don't complain. There were plenty of ice bags on the players after Fridays encounter. It would be best if RIT and Potsdam dont meet again this year in hockey- perhaps a few rounds of kick boxing would be more appropriate.
