Lead up to Sochi

Re: Lead up to Sochi

If you have the right package yes. I have the Bell satellite service and get the East Coast Boston feed and the West Coast Seattle Feed on our package. :)

It is also on TSN2, which is part of most basic sports packages. :) :)

Just checked, it is not on the NBC stations we get. If it is only on NBC sports, that is not available on our service. Probably because broadcasting rights for sports events are owned by TSN/CTV/CBC/Sportsnet in Canada. We do get the NHL games on NBC that are broadcast on the main channels.

Re: Lead up to Sochi

Also for those who need more of a hockey fix while your favorite women's team is on break, the World Juniors always provides lots of excitement. Full schedule and TV info here:

This event is hugely popular in Canada. Earlier today, the pre-tourney exhibition game between Canada and Finland was aired live on TSN. Never a lack of options to get your hockey fix here in Canada. This coming Monday, with everyone home for Christmas, we are going to see Crosby and co Live when the Pens are playing the Sens. Earlier today spend two hours on the outdoor rink with our D. Canadiana at it's best. :) :) :)

Re: Lead up to Sochi

USA 1, Canada 1, End of 1 - Ouellette and MLam with the goals.

Not a bad game so far. I was yelling at the TV at the U.S. defenders to clear the zone a couple of times. There were also a couple times I thought the Americans would be penalized and they weren't.

I'm just amazed at how often Canada has both D back and a forward back-checking when the U.S. gets a breakout.

And I'm trying to figure out how Darwitz got free from her coaching duties to be in Grand Forks for this. I guess her team doesn't have any games until after Christmas.

Re: Lead up to Sochi

After two periods, USA 4, Canada 1.

The 2nd and 3rd U.S. goals were both things of beauty -- terrific passing from Marvin to Decker on goal #2 and a fantastic individual effort by Knight to tuck the loose puck home for goal #3.

And then JLam went top shelf on goal #4 following a bad rebound from Szabados on MLam's initial shot.

Canada remained aggressive on the forecheck after the U.S. went up by three.

So after two it's WCHA 4, Canada 1? And that's without Kessel? ;)

Actually, it's WCHA 5, Everyone Else 0, seeing who got the Canada goal.

Speaking of which, it was officially changed to Irwin (it had been credited to Ouellette initially).

I'm going to side with TTT20 on this one. The Knight goal is definitely a product of a great effort by all three members of the line, two of whom attended *cough* *cough* BC.

FINAL - USA 4, Canada 1

It'll be interesting to see the final box score to figure out what all was called coming out of the scrum. (EDIT: Sounds like a bunch of 5 minute majors for fighting, but those don't include game DQs like in the college game.)

Just kidding, folks. Didn't want to start another "scrum" here....there were enough of those on the ice tonight!

P.S. Hadn't seen much of Kendall Coyne before; WOW, can that woman skate or what?

Re: Lead up to Sochi

The check into the boards with just a few seconds left in the game by J. Lamoureux was a cheap shot. Really uncalled for but not surprising it came from her.

'Five minutes, and a game misconduct', but with eight seconds to play and no such thing as a game misconduct, she gets a free shot, and takes it.

:D No worries, we're on the same team this time!

I really hope these literal and figurative beatdowns of Canada continue across the pond. Because it has been all USA to this point.

Also thrilled with Carpenter's play considering I'm pretty sure she was one of the last girls to make the roster. I can't imagine she will be cut at this point. She's on the pp too which I didn't expect.

Based on both what I heard the PA announcer saying over the TV broadcast and the USA Hockey box score, it was just the majors, not even misconducts. Otherwise there would have been 154 or 254 penalty minutes assessed (I think game misconducts each count as 20 in the international game), not just 54.

I find it amusing that Gigi Marvin got a fighting major, even though the video shows she stayed out of it for the most part.

I meant that there's no threat of a 'next game suspension', or anything like that.

Apparently the referee is from the Brad Shepherd school of officiating, where you just throw everybody into the box instead of trying to spend any time figuring out what actually happened.
