Lead up to Sochi

Re: Lead up to Sochi

I am enjoying this thread. Cannot wait to watch the game Friday. I read that it is actually being televised down here in the US on NBCSN (wow)!
My wife has declined what would be an otherwise pretty mandatory social engagement on Friday night by informing the potential hosts that we need to be home to watch extremely important hockey on TV.

Should be fun to watch. Thinking Team USA with the local kids should put a good crowd in the building.

Re: Lead up to Sochi

Any thoughts on the recent hire of Kevin Dineen as women's coach? How much will things change, or is it too close to the Olympics to really change much? My thought on it is the Canadians are obviously very talented and I do not think who is behind the bench is going to be a huge factor in how the Olympics play out. I think the gold medal game will still come down to the USA vs Canada and whoever plays better will win, regardless of who the coaches are. I'm not saying coaching is not important. I am just saying all the coaches can do is put their players in a position to be successful. It's up to the players to execute on the ice. Canada is obviously loaded with talented kids, as is the USA. I am glad I am not the person who has to decide who to cut. I am enjoying this thread. Cannot wait to watch the game Friday. These games are always tough to call. But as a fan of the Canadian team, I fear that the deciding factor that will likely tip the balance is.....Kessel. Best player in the world.

Re: Lead up to Sochi

This got put in the Gopher thread because of the two Minnesota alums on the team, but I thought a copy should be posted here.

Also, the Finns have put out a video introducing each player on the squad at http://vimeo.com/82182126.

(EDIT: Beautiful hip check in the video. Too bad that's illegal in the women's game.)
Nice video, good luck to Suomi.

Why are all of their highlights from games against USA?

That is awesome! Your wife rocks! My wife is a huge hockey fan and has to work Friday night. Otherwise, she would be right there with me.

There are also two Ohio State girls on that team (Finland)! Thanks for sharing that video!

Re: Lead up to Sochi

I like how the Olympics is not supposed to be about politics - yet Putin and Obama can't help wetting themselves in gamesmanship.

The idea that the Olympics isn't about politics has always been a complete farce. Tell Jesse Owens about how politics wasn't involved. Or go back and understand the justification for the 'ideal of amateurism' that underlay the modern Olympics for most of its existence.

Yeah, Hitler treated him better than his own "leader(s)" did but still was apparently furious at the uncomfortable sensation of those gold medals being jammed somewhere they were never intended to be.

Re: Lead up to Sochi

A folks in Canada able to watch the NBC broadcast?

If you have the right package yes. I have the Bell satellite service and get the East Coast Boston feed and the West Coast Seattle Feed on our package. :)

It is also on TSN2, which is part of most basic sports packages. :) :)
