Does anyone else also think we're going to see some auto bids steal a spot from the HEA this year? I could even see a team like BSU(Bemidji) sneaking in, just look at how they played Minn St. this weekend. It sure seems like you better be at least 13 to feel safe.

BSU is 4-9-1 in the second half. In a one & done format, sure. Anything is possible. I just wouldn't pin my hopes on one OT win against Mankato proving the Beavers have turned the corner.

true, but listening to Hastings talk about them he thought they outplayed MTU in their series and were saved by Pietila. I just don't trust the CCHA this year and don't think MTU and MSU are "dominant" enough to think they will easily run to the chip.

I don't disagree that the CCHA is a crap shoot. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if any team not named Lake State won the Mason Cup. Hell, NMU was picked 2nd in the preseason coaches poll & has been a disaster until running Ferris Wheel out of the barn last weekend. Did they finally figure something out?

It's possible. They were hanging with the other teams most of the year until that gawd awful January. I had higher hopes for Potulny, but it just hasn't panned out for Northern.

Northern has had injury issues the past 2 seasons. Their offense was supposed to be elite this year, but until last weekend, has been very pedestrian. Last year's leading goal scorer, AJ Vanderbeck has only 2 goals since mid-November. Heck, in a 17 goal weekend, he only had 1 assist. Hard to blame the coach when half the team is hurt or underperforming.

I happened to notice the two team in the "top-20" have .500 records. I won't mention names. Or their B10 conference.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those teams are probably on the wrong side of the bubble.

Michigan State fans are sitting home this weekend, ending the season with a bye week. If cheering for their own self interest and home ice next weekend, then they will be cheering for Wisconsin and Michigan this weekend (or rather, against Penn State and Notre Dame).

Why do you think MTU fans are raving about Pietila for the Richter? Tech was picked to finish in the bottom half of the CCHA well out of MacNaughton contention and At Large consideration. Joe will be the first to tell you "goaltending, goaltending and goaltending" is why Tech is where they are at. We get just enough scoring to win games. If the D is suspect and Blake isn't standing on his head, (2 games vs BG and the game against Western) we lose. If the D is solid and Blake has an average game for him, we win (see BU, Mankato, Alaska,...).

The records show no CCHA team is dominant or consistent. Whoever can play their system, get some puck luck, and has a hot goalie will take the CCHA tournament.

I'm not blaming the coach, I've loved this guy since the day he arrived at MN. Just the body of work since he got there, I figured he'd have turned it around a little more than has happened. 5 years is enough time to start seeing progress. Seasons happen, but as a whole it doesn't feel like it's gotten right yet.

For sure! I've had Pietila in my Richter top three since I started looking at it. Your point is exactly why I favor an upset in at least one of the two leagues this year (HEA/CCHA)

Lol. Have you decided which metrics you want to use or are you still being a hypocrite?

What the hell are you talking about? I have never changed metrics. The conference with the best overall won/lost record for the season is the best conference, period, end of story. That has been my stance from day one and I have never once backed down from that. Try again, better luck next time.

Yet that's not what your signature says. Hypocrite.

That doesn't make me a hypocrite, not even close. OMG, you are so far above and beyond delusional. The way you use the term hypocrite suggests you don't even know the meaning of the word. My signature lists championships won by each team, it says absolutely nothing about what defines the best conference on a year to year basis. Try to keep up.

The entire point of your signature is the 23>21. The implication that the B1G is the "best" conference because those schools have won the most national championships, while you simultaneously claim national championships don't define the "best" conference is hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy: "behavior that contradicts what one claims to believe or feel." Yup.

Don't want to be a hypocrite? Edit your signature to state which conference has the best OOC record since national championships are irrelevant to you.

I do not subscribe to the flawed theory that the best conference is the conference that the national champion comes from. The best conference is the one that has the best overall non-conference winning record over the course of the entire season.

Derp. But I'm so willing to die on my 23>21 hill I'm posting it in my signature so everyone has to read it, despite my core belief that national championships don't define the best conference. What a clown.

Careful arguing with Speed. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Speed, putting on my B1G rose colored glasses, one could says something like this that the board would have a harder time poking holes in.

The B1G is much improved this year. PWR has them rated as the best conference this year with the best NC record/win percentage. They need to be the conference favored to produce the national champion.

The B1G hasn't been the dominate league for the last 10 years. The teams that made the B1G had a collective down period going into the formation and start of the league. Minnesota and Michigan have rediscovered the formula for their success and are strong national title contenders. PSU has hit the ground running. OSU and the Golden Domers are two teams no one wants to play. Sparty has started to right the ship with their new coach. Wisconsin... the less said the better.

The best league in the last decade has been the NCHC, based on national championships and championship game appearances.

In all of college hockey history, the schools that make up the B1G have the most national titles and sustained program success then any other conference.'

Now get off my lawn! ;)

WHOA! Don't go getting all accurate and logical now! Couldn't have said it better. I love the Gophers and am happy to see the B1G elevate itself this year. As a B1G supporter, I think one needs to be careful too about shouting from the rooftops because if you take a hard look at whose leaving these teams after the season, the league could be right back down in the middle tiers next year. A vast majority of these teams are loaded with seniors/5th years and for Mich & the gophers their top players are not coming back next year based on how much the NHL teams are salivating over their top guys. The depth in quality may not be there next year. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks very much like a rebuild year next year for the league. The recruits look decent, but not like the last couple years. HEA (BC especially) seems to be perhaps leading the way as far as top talent coming in 2023-24. The transfer portal might need to be fleeced!

And there you go, digging yourself in even deeper. Is there no end to your stupidity? I think you're just mad that the Big Ten doesn't suck like you so desperately want it to.

Sadly for the CCHA, that last statement is all to true. Teams in the CCHA are going to suffer because the B1G and NCHC are going to come calling in order to replenish their depth.
