Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

No, I don't think have unless they've got a verbal commitment in the past week or so that hasn't been shown up on the Heisenberg recruits site yet. They will need to bring in two goalies next season. Their #1 goalie will be back (he will be a Senior next season), but their #2 and #3 goalies are Seniors this season. I think they were looking at goalies in either the OJAHL or CCHL recently. I think the situation with Ravn (Ottawa) was pretty iffy due to clearing house issues; he might not be out of the picture, but on the other hand I don't have the impression that they feel they were counting on that working out.

Some other strong goalies in same league as Ravn. I guess they must have taken a pass on them?

Maybe, maybe not. A couple have already committed to other colleges that I know of. Galley (BG) and Carr (Mass-Lowell). It could also be that they haven't seen some of the goalies in the CJHL; the LSSU hockey budget is pretty small compared to most schools playing Div 1 hockey so I'm sure the coaches don't travel as much as they would like to be able to. It's also possible they are still looking at other goalies in the CJHL. I haven't heard that they are, but they could be. I know that the OPJHL (OJAHL/CCHL) and the CJHL are prime recruiting grounds for the Lakers.

Other than goalies, the Lakers are pretty well set for next season from a recruiting standpoint. They recently got a commitment from a Defenseman from the SJHL, which took care of the last of their other immediate needs. They lose two key defensemen after this season, and Sternberg and the kid from the SJHL are coming in to replace them.

Since they did have Ravn in for a visit, I assume he is a decent student. I suspect the issue there is whether the NCAA could match his high school class workload to the core NCAA Clearing House requirements. I don't know when he came over from France to play junior hockey, but I imagine at least part of that matching may involve classes he took back in France.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I'll be in Omaha this weekend and will be at the Michigan-UNO game Saturday night. Depending on Friday's results, I could be in the uncomfortable position of being at a Michigan game and having to cheer for them, because it would help Lake State. :(

We'll be going to a Creighton basketball game and a UNO hockey game on the same day in the same arena, which should be pretty cool.

I know what you mean. I was doing the same thing 2 weeks ago watching Sparty & the Weasels down at the Joe. :o
At least I wasn't alone though, as there was a guy in a Laker jersey a few rows in front of me pulling for UofM too. Being as his wife had a UofM sweatshirt on, I doubt he had much of a say in the matter, though. :D

Lakers vs. Bulldogs... I don't even need to say how huge this series is for the home team, so to sum it up... GO LAKERS!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Derek A Smith has been called up the Ottawa Senators and will play his first NHL game tomorrow night against the Red Wings.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I am not getting the game on the internet or BTV.Anyone else getting it?

I'm getting the internet feed OK. I did notice that it started up with Windows Media Player which is the way it use to be before this season.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I am watching it on B2TV and the place looks empty and I am hearing the ferris fans more than the laker fans

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Huge 3rd period comeback by the Lakers, especially after falling behind in the last minute after tieing it at 2 a few minutes earlier. They really needed the points. Now they need to play hard tomorrow night and come out with more points. If they take care of their own business they won't have to worry as much about other teams helping them out.

Attendance was 2310, about 30 of which were Ferris fans. The place was pretty quiet during the first two periods as the Lakers looked somewhat sloppy and uninspired.

The 3rd period was a different story. Not sure what the coaches said during the 2nd intermission, but the team came out very energized. Several players stepped up with huge goals and the crowd was very loud and appreciative. Very impressive win for the Lakers.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

What a 3rd period and what a come from behind win!!!!! I thought the Lakers had lost it when Ferris scored the go-ahead goal, but then the Lakers scored. I thought it would go to overtime, but the Lakers proved me wrong again and scored again and they end up winning in regulation. What an effort by our guys! The Lakers would of lost a game like this last year. We definitely needed this win, especially with teams not helping us tonight.

Also congrats to Derek A. Smith. He will be the first former Laker to debut in the NHL since John Grahame in 1999.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Some future Lakers all have goals tonight in games that are still in the 3rd period. Colin Campbell (Vaughan) has 2 goals and Dan Radke (Traverse City) and Kellan Lain (Oakville) each have one.

I was very disappointed with such a small crowd for senior weekend and white out night. The Ferris fans were great for their team for being just a handfull they were very vocal. I had to laugh though when Rick scored his second goal a couple of Ferris fellas were saying let their fans cheer thats no goal then when the ref pointed to center ice the smile just fell right off the faces of them, it reminded me of them credit card commercials.Priceless

At the end of the second period Beemer did not look to happy when he scated off the ice so i wouldn't be suprised if he helped the scaters find the fire they showed in the third period
I have to agree a game like this would not have been won in the last couple of years. I'm proud of the way the Lakers came on to win this game it showed the character that reminds me of teams of years ago.

Good job guys now win saturday's game.

Stunning.

What more can you say?

Except another win Saturday is now needed. I have to tell you its nice to have meaningful February games.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I haven't seen a hockey player simply impose his will on another team like Rick Schofield did in the third period last night...Ferris State simply had no answer for him...Last night Bill C mentioned that there are whispers of NHL teams looking at Rick and that he may sign after this season and with performances like that it is no wonder why! As far as the game goes, there really is no words to describe what an amazing finish that was, if i have seen a crazier finish to a hockey game than that, it certainly isn't coming to mind..you have to love college hockey!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Anyone else having problems getting the link to the pre-game show to work?

Edit: Got it to work now. Had to delete the old bookmark to the YesFM website and then add it back in.

Lakers really blew it tonight. Now a split at Alaska may be required especially with Ohio State and Notre Dame right behind us and they are playing lowly Western and Bowling Green respectively next weekend. It may come down to the last regular season game at NMU to determine whether we have home ice for the first round.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I think they'll need at least 6 points out of the next two weekends to get home ice in the first round. Disappointing that they couldn't come up with any points tonight in their last home game. But, they do have their destiny in their own hands. Now it's a matter of going out and getting the job done.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Lakers could still end up in 10th place and that would be unreal at this point .
