Laker Hockey 2009-10

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Thank you so much Bowling Green! Now me must do our business tonight and get a much needed win.

EDIT: Which we didn't. Very lackluster performance. If we don't win tomorrow, then we'll probably have to sweep NMU to get home ice which would be very, very tough. Let's hope the offensive wakes up tomorrow. We must win, since I'm not counting on Ohio State to lose to the cellar dwellar Broncos. I think it's gonna be between us and the Buckeyes for the last home ice spot.

I don't see the Lakers sweeping Northern at their place. If they want home ice for the first round, tonight is a must win game. Other than the 3rd period at the 2nd Miami game and the 3rd period in the first game against Ferris, the offense has pretty much disappeared the past four series. They gotta find a way to get that going tonight.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Don't count the third period at Miami. I was at that game and by then the game was over and Miami was just going through the motions and if they had to,they would have kept the Lakers off the board. I listen to the game last night and the Alaskan announcers made the comment that the Laker offense seemed incapable of setting up any good scoring chances.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Not exactly a "risky" prediction. It sounds like you want that to happen.
I might not post too much, but I read a lot, and I'm 100% certain that there is nothing that Troll Squad would like more than to see his prediction come true.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Can’t root for you guys tonight, but sure hope the Lakers take it to NMU next weekend, regardless if it means anything in the standings or not. A shot of Mahoney-Wilson from last night’s game. About 25 more here.

He probably does. He thinks it might get Jim Roque fired and have Frank Anzalone back and have Francis replace Crawford.

It ain't gonna happen. Sure Roque might be on the hot seat and Crawford might not come back, but there is no chance in hell the Anzalones will come back.

Back to the series, the offensive must wake up and have more Grade A chances. Sounds like the Alaska goalie made a lot of easy saves. Beamer has to play better too. It sounds like most of the goals he gave up weren't really soft, but he has to make more of those big saves.

EDIT: Thank you, AGAIN Bowling Green! Wow! Let's hope the Broncos can squeak by the Buckeyes. A Ohio State loss is really needed if we end up losing tonight.

I think Beamer has improved this season now that he's settled in as the #1 goalie, but I don't think he's yet at the point where he's stealing games for us. I know he's made some great saves this season, but just not as many as we've needed with the inconsistent offense. The offense has been generating a lot of shots on net the past month or so, which is fine, but yes they need to create higher quality scoring opportunities. And from the few games I've seen, they are still having trouble putting the shots where they want even when they are from Grade A locations. Too many of those seem to either miss the net or are right at the goalie.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Bad news for Laker fans: Ohio State beats Western in a shootout and is now three points ahead of us. NMU loses a tough one to Michigan which means the Wildcats are gonna come out angry against us next Friday.

If we win, we will be tied with the Buckeyes for the last home ice spot. Who would own the tiebreaker if we get three points tonight?

We are long overdue for a win in Alaska. Now is the absolutely pefect time for one.

The first tiebreaker is the number of conference wins, so LSSU would have the tiebreaker if they can win tonight.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

What a shame the team sure seemed like they had it figured out a few weeks ago and all of a sudden they are playing like they did the last couple years.

Bad passes, stupid penalties, powerless play, not bearing down when a quality scoreing chance comes along and inconsistent play is just killing them. Just to name a few.:(

I fear it's going to be a long bus ride back from Northern next weekend.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Lakers have scored 1 or no goals six out of the last eight games. Pathetic. Powerplay is still awful. We did play better tonight, but we ran into a hot goalie. The shorthanded goal the Lakers gave up killed them.

Wow we had such high hopes just a few weeks ago. Now everyhing is just falling apart and the Lakers are faling.

Now we will be facing an angry NMU team hungry for a first round bye. We also need help from *cough* Michigan (playing ND) *cough* and Miami (playing OSU) next weekend too. Hopefully all the chips will fall into place. Next weekend is going to be an exciting one no matter what happens in the CCHA. Let's hope for the best for our Lakers.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

sm2pk.........I have read this thread for years and always get a kick out of your consistent, persistent, and unrelenting negativity. I'm sure it is appreciated.

And Truth..........congratulations........great weekend for you.

Well, despite the lack of points in Alaska, the Lakers still pretty much have their destiny in their own hands. Notre Dame has only managed 1 out of 12 points vs the two league cellar dwellers in their last 4 games so despite Michigan's subpar season, I don't see ND getting many points from them.

Miami lost at home last night so I would expect them to beat OSU twice this weekend. We have the tie breaker with OSU so a win in Marquette will likely give us home ice..........Northern appears to be on their game so it will be tough.

If they lose twice and go on the road in the first round, the consolation will be saving $20,000 (or possibly $30,000).

I was surprised to hear that Inglis played in goal. Was anything said about that.

Jim said in the pregame just giveing Brian a break before the strech run, also to try to get a little of the rust off Pat in case something happens.
