Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10
Two teams in the top four of the CCHA are great comparisons. FSU and NMU have comparable programs to LSSU. All three are GLIAC schools with a single Division I sport. Is there really a need to begin a save the coach campaign? NO-ONE EXPECTS that LSSU will make a coaching change, probably couldn’t afford the buy-out. To imply that Jim Roque outcoached Red Berenson last weekend but lost is beyond crazy and then commenting that coaches don’t make a difference brings the entire effort into focus. Lake State was in 4th place the end of January. They were 14-7-4 in the upper half of the league in all important categories including goals for, power play, penalty kill, goaltending and team defense through the beginning of FEBRUARY and collapsed. LSSU was in NCAA contention. What does this have to do with money? If you want to say that they couldn’t afford practice time or food then we agree that money was an issue.
When the renovation is complete in 2012 what are the expectations? How could we ask for more, a 4th place standing entering February, and in NCAA contention with a chance to finish the job. The players showed for 2/3 of a season that they were for real and now people disrespect them by stating they never really had a chance and, in fact were more prepared than their opponents yet somehow lost. We’re not asking for a coaching change but a 1-11-1 free fall is entirely about coaching, money had nothing to do with it.
