Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Good luck in playoffs! I smell an upset brewing... :D (at least I hope so...)

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Sounds like we might be in trouble tonight. Schofield, Acton and Nehring are all out with the flu.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Wow..Lakers played as if they are wanting out of the play-offs early. What did Roque say about the second period....looks like my forwards forgot to show up. 2012 can't get here soon enough. This team as of now would probably lose to every team in the nation. I am not sure if Roque looked sick due to the flu or what happen on the ice tonight.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Michigan gave the Lakers every chance they could the first ten minutes. Even at 1-0 they blew an open net, MacVoy played goalie for us. I think they laid down after it went 2-0. The 2nd period was played in their end the whole time. Valiant performance in the third period w/o their top three goalscorers. Have a chance with them in the lineup, I think. JMO, but I don't believe Michigan's heart is much in it, either.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Let's hope we have our guys back from the flu tonight and no one else has succumbed to it. In addition to that, we could really use an early goal or two to build confidence, and we need to keep Michigan to under 4 goals (maybe under 3) to have a chance. We definitely can't fall behind 3-0 again.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Great news about the Norris Project, that could really help give the program a facelift! As far as this weekend goes, I'm going to go against the grain and put my money on the Lakers to advance...In spite of the terrible finsih to the regular season and lack of offense I have to believe that a veteran team like ours will not go down easily...it also is a huge help that Hogan is going to miss the series...Hunwick has played 1 college game in his life and it was last weekend... Lakers in 3 : 3-2 , 1-3, 5-3

Good call!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

It would be interesting to know the health of the team tonight. They looked very passive and sluggish and out of synch, like a team that had been hit with the flu.

I have to agree with you Bill. They looked way better last weekend at Northern.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The lakers didn't have the flu the last 10 games of the regular season and scoring more than one goal a game was like trying to bring the titanic off the ocean floor. The Lakers didn't have the horses and another 10th place finish tells the story. Bowling Green is not a good team,Western Mi is not a good team and sad to say, Lake Superior is not a good team.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

And that's all she wrote. :(

The Lakers are what they are..... a below average team trying to compete with programs that have massive resources behind them.

Very little will change except my expectations. No longer will I feel that this team has a shot at anything. They simply cannot compete.

Good call!

Ok I was wrong, it wasn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last...But at least I am trying to add valid pieces of conversation about the Lakers to this thread and I actually want to see the Lakers win...You on the other hand are just an idiot....Frank Anzalone was the second coming, Francis Anzalone is God's gift to broadcasting and you think the Laker's suck, we get it...now go crawl back into your hole.

What the **** is the matter with you trying to use common sense with that puke.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The Lakers best hope starts in 2012 when this new drive to rebuild the team begins. This next season ,the Lakers will be picked to finish 10th or lower but certainly not higher then 9th. The question becomes will Roque still be the coach or do they completely revamp the program and give it new life from top to bottom.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Probably almost as bad as the goal scoring is the horrific road record in the 2nd half. We were 0-9-1 on the road in the 2nd half compared to a decent 3-2-1 at home.

Roque will probably get a two year deal. If we have more 9th-12th finishes, I think he'll be done coaching at LSSU.

Let's hope next year is a better year. I am very curious how the CCHA will have a schedule with 11 teams?

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Cool, some competition for last place next year.

You underestimate UAH's potential. If a move to the CCHA were to occur, I'd put their chances of finishing 8-10 better than 11-12th. This assumes that Danton Cole is still the coach, which also is not a given.

I'm no longer certain a change in the coaching regime will produce any positive resullts.

While we are all thrilled with the new renovations being done the Norris Center; keep in mind that this will bring Lake State up to a level where the vast majority of programs have already been. The Lakers were one of the few programs in the CCHA (perhaps the only one) without a S&C coach. Finally having one will not give the Lakers a leg up on anyone.

Lake State is a tiny school with diminishing resources. As long as other programs continue to take their hockey teams seriously, the Lakers will struggle to compete.

I've come to accept that and my expecations for the Lakers will remain low.
