Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Isn't this about the 3rd week in a row that half or more of the "CCHA Players of the Week" have come from the team that Lake State played against?

That is usually a pretty good sign that your team is playing like *****.

Yah, unfortunately I noticed this was a regular thing since right after the Christmas break.
Instead of going into the playoffs on a high note, we're scratching our heads and wondering where the team offense went and why they suddenly can't make a tape-to-tape pass, or put the puck in the net?

It's gut check time for this team. They've got loads of talent and have shown they can play with any team in this league. Time to show up and get the job done.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

To much shopping in marquette for me to be able go to A2. I sure would like to see the Lakers play to their capabilities though. They are way better then the way they have been playing lately for sure.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Did anyone in the Soo area catch the Laker Hockey Show last evening? If so, what all was discussed? I know the Norris Center project was one of the things that was supposed to be on the agenda.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Hogan is doubtful for this weekend. The backup goaltender Hunwick has only played in 4 career games. Hopefully the Lakers can take advantage of this and finally get the offense going.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The Norris Project adds a 1200 sq ft strength & conditioning room and converts the current 800 sq ft area to a space for the hockey treadmill and a goalie training area. All equipment (over 200k) will be provided through Athletic Republic and is EXACTLY what the development program has in A2.
It also renovates the training area, and other operational areas of what will be called 'The Hockey Center".

LSSU is also signing a exclusive 5 year contract with a private company to provide a full time strength & conditioning coach with ties to the WCHA & NHL. (his contract is with the private group) He will be supported with visiting exercise physiologist (PhD) and nutritionist who will perform monthly aerobic & strength testing and body composition testing. This will all happen in a renovated area where the coaches office currently are in the arena, beginning in 2012. The contract will include both Goalie specialists and power skating specialists, as has been approved by the NCAA, and is similar to what has been done at Clarkston for over 4 years.

LSSU will begin summer scholies for hockey that year, to allow for year round conditioning opportunities. LSSU will extensively monitor student athlete contact hours to assure NCAA Compliance.

This public /private partnership will create one of the top training programs in college hockey. It will both develop players strength & skills every year, as well as help in recruiting........It will establish LSSU as a spot to send your draft picks for development. It will provide the LSSU coaching staff with well conditioned athletes who will not tire..but maintain strength & speed through the year. The Lakers will now have facilities and resources equal to the best in hockey.

This is a game changer Laker fans........ I know this because I am the owner of the private company, and I have a singular focus of developing the Lakers
to a championship level. The three things we will provide are the vision, the focus, and a unrelenting work ethic to get it done.

All of our proposed positions are filled with high level professionals that have not only played the game, but have a resume of training top level talents. The website www.norriscenterproject.com is the source for news updates. While the group has a wide scope of project I will assure you the concentration of effort is on HOCKEY. This does "raise the bar" for hockey at LSSU.

Sounds great. Do you have ties to LSSU that led to your company entering into this contract? Or ties to Jim Roque (since you mentioned Clarkson)? Or is it just a matter of LSSU giving your company a chance to prove this will work? Or maybe a combination of these? Can you tell us the name of your company, if not now, sometime in the near future?

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

We do have some relationships with LSSU that brought this situation / opportunity to my attention. My company has worked with professional athletes including the NFL Combine for over 12 years.

The Norris Center Project web site will contain future announcements as our contracts and partners related to this project are finalized over the next two years. That will be the main source of information.

I just noticed the curiosity on this board and wanted to say hello and provide some solid info vs the typical internet speculation.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

This is one hell of a game changer. Who won the lottery ? I would think the announcement of this would have an impact on recruiting starting now.

The coaches should be working on the 2011 recruiting class now and there are going to be quite a few key players to replace then, so this should help. All we have to left to finalize for next season is one more goalie slot.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Great news about the Norris Project, that could really help give the program a facelift! As far as this weekend goes, I'm going to go against the grain and put my money on the Lakers to advance...In spite of the terrible finsih to the regular season and lack of offense I have to believe that a veteran team like ours will not go down easily...it also is a huge help that Hogan is going to miss the series...Hunwick has played 1 college game in his life and it was last weekend... Lakers in 3 : 3-2 , 1-3, 5-3

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Yes, this is really fantastic news for Laker Hockey. Kudos to the donors who are making it happen!:) :) :)

The extra personnel for Strength and Conditioning seems almost more exciting than the new facilities. Frank Anzalone built Laker Hockey on S & C back before anyone else was doing it. Since all the big schools have caught on, we just haven't had the resources to keep up.

I'm actually going to "put my money down" on the Lakers for the playoffs. I got an LSSU Foundation envelope in the mail a while back. I'll pledge to send them $10 per goal the Lakers score in the playoffs, plus $25 per Laker victory. It's a small drop in the pond compared to the $5 Mil, but I'm sure they'll take it.

Mogerfan that is a great idea and i'm sure it will be received with great appreciation. I will match you on this great cause.

Lets go Lakers show them what your made of !!!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Thanks Moger / Perky ......Thats the spirit. S&C was a key part of the project as no one was interested in simply putting "lipstick on a pig".(my term, harsh but true. They turned down the equally effective powered sugar on a turd and try to sell is as a donut) :) Everything about the project will impact recruiting and /or the product on the ice......

ALL $$ matter (plz designate for hockey). There is a lot of need that we cannot address due to ncaa regulations. I would ask that you refer to the Norris Project in your donation so that they can see the "indirect" benefit.

I think the brick project will be a HUGE part in meeting "incidentals". We will not stray over that NCAA line ever.......the Foundation will be doing a lot with this moving forward.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Will do 3dog and thank you for your part in all of this, it is quite a boost to the spirits of this season ticket holder and his wife ofcourse.

It sounds like the S&C coach will begin working with the Lakers in the Fall of 2012 when the Norris Project is completed. Is that correct, or will the S&C coach actually start working with the Lakers sooner in the existing facilities?

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Hi Bill....You are correct. The plan is that this service will begin once the hockey facility is completed. Announcements on this service will be on the web site as we lead up to that time.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

This will certainly help with recruiting. Lake State has been at a major disadvantage for quite some time due to a lack of proper staff. All the major programs have had S&C coaches for while now and even many of the "lesser" programs have gotten on board.
