Incredibly Dull Boring 2022 Pairwise and Tournament Possibilites Thread

As for the bracket....Completely by the book. Swap the 9 and 10 seeds because of NCHC. And, then the top seeds all in order of who is closer to their home. No concessions for attendance at all.

What in God's name are we doing with the 6 hrs in between games at the same site???

I haven't seen the official explanation from the NCAA, but I'd bet the phrase "The fans requested this" will be somewhere in it.

ETA: I think I saw a writer on Twitter say it was about making sure there was time built in to the schedule in case of overtimes.

So let's say the first game ends in regulation after 2.5 hrs max. 3.5 hrs till next game. Absolutely idiotic.

Once again we see the stupidity of the NCAA on full display. There are still seats on the glass available in Worcester. $115 after fees. There are also seats in the nosebleeds of the upper bowl. $115 after fees.

Before Allentown, Toledo bid. That was a disaster. I don't think the arenas actually bid for a particular geography. They just bid to host. The committee choses the host sites accordingly. Now, about Allentown....Imagine a year in which PSU qualifies, and then add Niagara from the AHA. Point being.....if the teams were 10-6 East instead of 10-6 West, that doesn't look like nearly as bad a spot to have a regional.

I agree a bunch with the poster saying that the rules must be bad if there is never a regional in Minnesota or Michigan. But I will tell you the reason...

In Minnesota, who could host?
Duluth at Amsoil (arena is not on campus)
SCSU (same)
MSUM (same)
Target Center.

Of these, Target is out because of the High School Basketball Tournaments. The others look like 'safe' places, and the fact that they don't bid can only be atritbuted to one thing.....$$$

In Michigan, I have no idea who could host. All the barns are on campus, so you would be talking about Van Andel in Grand Rapids, who has in the past, but lost too much money....

You get the idea. All the western locations are too smart to throw money away on the idea.
Bowling Green was the host the last time the regionals were in Toledo. All agree it was a disaster. We bid Toledo for the regionals again in a few years (2025? I could take the time to look it up but meh). I expect it will be a similar disaster.

Now I just need it announced that you can't leave in between games 1 and 2 to complete the stupidity.

If I had to guess, the hosts are probably offsetting some of the cost by getting a few bucks from local watering holes for steering a captive audience their way. Of course, given the anticipated size of the *cough* crowds in Albany and Allentown, I'm not sure it'll be much more than a blip on the radar.

The only good thing is there's another game from a different regional in between so you can watch that on your phone or at the bar.

I'm blanking on the teams, but late 80's / early 90's era national title game that there was a controversial play where it looked like the team may have scored, but it was ruled a no-goal. Game either finished in OT or was a 1-goal nailbiter.

Maybe they can go back and review it again? : p

My memory seems to recall LSSU was involved. They were just in so many dang NCAA Title games back then that I can't remember which one. Perhaps the '93 title game against Maine?
In the 1988 title game Lake State player Pete Stauber intentionally knocked the net off its moorings with a minute and a half left in the third period of a tied game. I was at that game and I don't even remember that. What I do remember is the game of pass the puck Minnesota's Robb Stauber and Maine's goalie played during an extremely long official delay in the consolation game. One of the linesmen eventually intercepted the puck but a fan tossed another one to one of the goalies and they started up again, only to have a lineman intercept that puck as well.

In 1994 Lake State defeated Northeastern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament when the Huskies winning goal was disallowed.

In 1996 in the semifinals Colorado College defeated Vermont in overtime when the puck was batted into the net (3:40:00). The goal should have been disallowed based on Rule 6-15(a) "The goal shall not be allowed if the puck has been kicked, thrown or otherwise deliberately directed into the goal by any means other than a stick." And if the puck did deflect off the goalie than it should have been disallowed based on Rule 6-15(c) "A goal shall not be allowed in any of the following cases: (8) If an attacking player intentionally propels or deflects the puck other than with the stick, or illegally with the stick, and it bounds or deflects off the person or equipment of any defensive player into the net."

Too late but in 2000 in the NCAA first round Michigan defeated Colgate in overtime when the Raiders winning goal was disallowed.

Those are all I found or recalled.

Off topic, but why the buzzkill? It was a meaningless game, it was obviously entertaining the fans and it kept the goalies sharp during the delay.

A day between games? Part of me was considering a trip to Allentown, but the game times and days sealed the decision as a "no" for me. Is the NCAA trying to set a low attendance record with these days, times, and locations?
Are they hoping to get to the point where very few arenas that have actually looked at the numbers will want to bid, so that they can go to letting higher seeds host home games?
Do we need to go back to a 12 team tournament to only have 2 regionals, each with 6 teams? That could help attendance.

Now that most fans aren't going to the games, who can watch on tv for their team play at noon or 3 on a Thursday or Friday?
