Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Knee jerk reaction: Hey, throw rocks at a border guard, that's what you get.

Further thought: That's really tough, you hate to see it happen, still I'm having trouble mustering a ton of sympathy for the kid.

Wow, tough crowd.

Again the border is tough place, but little sympathy for a 14 yo with nothing to defend himself with...and with attitudes like this, its probably clear why many of us are against conceal and carry.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Umm, what was the guy throwing rocks defending himself from? He's the ****ing aggressor.

What was he doing defending himself? From what exactly?

These aren't pebbles. Maybe you should use some common sense before you attack a police officer. Sure he died and that's excessive force.

But nothing excuses what this kid did.

Tough crowd? he threw rocks at a border cop! Here is an idea, go up to a cop in Minneapolis and chuck rocks at him...see what happens to you. Then factor in how volatile the border is and see if you change your tune...

It's unbelievably sad the kid died, or when anyone dies for that matter. Excessive force? Yeah, sure, I can't really argue with that.

However, if the kid isn't throwing rocks at an officer, this doesn't happen.

If the victim is one of theirs it's our enemy's fault albeit a tragedy. If the victim is one of ours it's our enemy's fault and a casus belli.

If while youre at the store, your 14 yo son gets shot in the head for throwing a rock at a cop...lets see how long it takes the tune to change from recommended hero to life in prison.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

If my son throws rocks at a cop and he doesnt get shot I will beat the crap out of him myself for a couple of different reasons.

And who said he was a hero Mr. Hyperbole, we just said the 14yo is mostly to blame. Feel free to turn your outrage down a few notches and relax.

Nope everything else being the same, the cop is mostly to blame.

If a 14 yo does not have a gun...he shouldn't be shot in the head, period...including if he's your son.

Says you, and no offense I dont go by your archaic rules of life.

The kid shouldn't have been shot in the head. The Bible clearly states that he should have been stoned to death at the town gates. The cop is going to have to answer for that to the Big Guy on Judgment Day.

Amazingly, I agree.

Cops are trained to analyze and react very quickly. Unfortunately, he chose poorly, in hindsight.

A bunch of people (kids or not is beside the point in this case) are out to harm him, with (at the time, possibly) unknown projectiles. Understandable reaction, sad outcome.

A good lesson: "Do what the nice man with the gun tells you to do."

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Throwing rocks at an officer is not a capital offense. The United States does not make war against children. Based on what we know now, the officer used bad judgement and should be judged accordingly. That said, we should walk a mile in the officer's boots before declaring him a murderer. We're in a time of chosing up sides and this case "fits" into whatever template best describes our attitudes on illegal immigration.

I don't even look at the immigration issue in this. People started chucking stuff at the officer (who was outnumbered). They ignored his requests. Then crap happened. I do feel for the child's family, I really do. However, you threaten a cop, or take action against a cop, sorry, * you.

And outside of the extremes, if you "happen to live" then corrections will be made, if necessary. And that it an extreme, as it was is this case.

I'm reminded of the old Jonathon Winters routine that was a send up of a 30's Pat O'Brien prison picture, with O'Brien playing the priest.

"Tiger's not a bad boy warden."
"He isn't? He just killed five of my guards, I'd call that a little ornery, wouldn't you?"

The "victim" here is being portrayed as a cross between Mozart and Robin Yount.

Robin Yount? He had a moustache, rode a dirtbike and earned the nickname "Blisters" due to his propensity to smoke a lot of rope during his days at Taft High? :)

No, really...I'm seriously curious as to where you pulled Robin Yount from. I'm finding it funny but can't figure out why :)

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

This area of the border is dangerous.

This person was an illegal, who tried to cross the border. He was already a criminal, by breaking the law. He then assaulted a police officer with rocks. Rocks can kill.

That's a crime.

The cop asked him to stop. He continued. Failure to heed the cop's warning.

He knew right from wrong. The Cop shouldn't have shot him in the head, but where should he have shot him? In the foot?

I mean why are the politically correct idiots taking away the cop's right to defend himself?

It's a split second decision. One moment they are throwing rocks, but only to distract you to prevent you from defending yourself...then you got shot.

Sorry, the Border Patrol officer's life was worth something. He deserved the right to defend himself! And he did!

Absolutely.

The rock throwers have to consider the circumstances, too. It's one thing if you throw a spitball at a city cop on a nice sunny day walking down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. But when you've illegally crossed a border in the middle of essentially an all-out drug war and your gang has a solitary border guard surrounded as he's trying to take someone into custody, perhaps you should take just a moment or two to consider whether it's a good idea to throw a ***ing rock at him!

I have faith that the FBI will investigate properly and come to a just and timely conclusion on whether the officer acted appropriately; I already know that the rock throwers did not. They chose to put themselves into an incredibly dangerous situation, and one of them suffered the consequences. I feel no more pity than I would for a guy who died going over Niagara falls in a barrel. Bad decision, bad consequences.

Edit: and in honor of the World Cup kicking off tomorrow: Eff Mexico and their request for an investigation.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

It appears the cop used horrible judgement and directly caused the death of a child when his own life was not in danger.

He will be judged by the US government, God (for those who believe) and his own conscience...he'll have to pass all three tests.

Really. I tell you what, let's do an experiment. You stand still while I whip a couple of rocks at your noggin. Not pebbles....rocks. I am guessing that not only will you fear for your life, but you will probably run away like a scared little girl.
