Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

How much would the reimbursement cost? $500,000 tops? I'm have no doubt you could get 500,000 people to donate a buck if that happened.

Yep. And I doubt that donations would even be needed. It'd be "to solve this? Sure, spend it. Don't care. It's worth it."

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Without getting kneejerk...I know we've all haggled over the best way to deal with illegal immigration, and that's expected, reasonable and fair, but:

If what this article seems to imply is true and if a drug cartel has forcefully taken over private property within the borders of the United States, we absolutely must make an example of them.

Politics aside, this will be a test of the administration (and that goes for any administration that would be forced to deal with a situation such as this). If this is all true, we're going to see the true colors of the feds as this about as alarming as it gets.

Also if all true, I hope the response involves A-10's, Apaches and some of the boys from Fort Irwin.

This will be a fascinating situation to follow. Disappointingly sad, but very interesting nonetheless.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

I completely agree. If we don't show a swift and absolutely merciless response, this will become more and more common. I agree, an example MUST be made of this IF it is true.

It's interesting there appears to be a news blackout on this (based on a few of the stories out there), but the writers are standing firm behind their stories while usually citing the Laredo PD as their source.

The blackout angle makes me at least ponder the possibility the military could be in the mix somewhere, but as of now we don't really have any way to understand the reality, if any, of this situation.

As I said...this is very interesting if it's actually going down as reported.

Hopefully the military is getting involved. As anyone who follows the news about the cartels knows, the Zetas are very skilled and I believe they are former mexican military special forces.

That's what I've read. This isn't some ragtag cartel. This is the big boys.

Well, hopefully the military is getting involved if this is true in the way it's been surficially reported thus far. To re-emphasize so I don't have to deal with 5mn_major's kaleidoscoping nonsense...as of now we just don't know, and we can't forget that.

That said...former special forces or not...if we wanted to bring some force down on these guys they would be in a world of trouble. I highly doubt they have the ability to mobilize an air wing. Heck, even if they did...they'd still be in a world of trouble.

Wait till they bring the 14 yr olds with rocks out

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

none of the cartels are ragtag anymore... lets note that clearly.

You know what I mean (I think). There are high level and low level cartels, and the cartel in question is in the upper echelon.

Uh, not seeing a problem here.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_usa_immigration_arizona

The two women are among scores of illegal immigrant families across Phoenix hauling the contents of their homes into the yard this weekend as they rush to sell up and get out before the state law takes effect on Thursday.

Bolding/underlining mine. Illegal means "against the law." Let's remember that.

One thing you can absolutely count on when/if 1070 takes effect: a veritable niagara of enforcement stories--how unfair the law is, how these are decent hard working people, how the cops (especially Joe Arpiao) are "profiling" them, blah blah blah. The truth will be somewhat less dramatic. But that won't stop the open borders crowd. Every interaction between an illegal and law enforcement will be framed as "proof" of how racist 1070 is--complete with weeping widows and orphans and sincere "human rights advocats" posturing for the evening news.

I'm offering 1:100,000 odds this clogs up the courts in arizona.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

This is another step up in the cartels' exerting control over the Mexican border. They've had effective control of sizable chunks of southern Arizona for a while now, but to formally take control the way they have in Texas shows just how little they fear the feds doing anything on the border. Who'd have thunk that our nation would reach such lows as to let this pass and only be monitoring the situation. Welcome to life in the border states.
