I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

I find it funny how the media ran with the Lindsey Vonn thing this morning... Probably based on the use of a med-evac helicopter... That's standard procedure for anything that someone can't walk away from at the World Cup level... Just much easier/safer than taking someone down the hill in a meat sled.... But then again, Skiing is probably around 15th or so on the popularity scale here in the US, so I doubt anyone would realize how routine this was (for lack of a better term... Still serious injuries on her part)...

Routine, but still scary. I haven't seen vid of Vonn's crash, but Brian Stemmle darn near died after this crash at Kitzbuhel literally ripped his insides apart.

Or cruciate and lateral tears in her right knee as now reported....

Picabo Street was never the same after a very similar injury the season after the 1998 Olympics in Nagano.

It's kinda eerie just the fact that this is going to be two more major championships (World's this year, Sochi next year) that Vonn will not be healthy for... It's almost like she's cursed or something... Wishing her a full and speedy recovery... I'll be cheering like hell to see her on the podium in Russia next Winter...

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Elin loosened Vonn's skis.... just sayin'. :D

Anyways, the most devastating crash I saw was Herman Maier in the Olympics. I cringed when I saw that.

I have a vague recollection that a former RPI hcokey player who graduated in the early 1970's died in a skiing accident. I won't mention the name since it is a vague recollection, and DrDemento is probably the only other one who would recall the name.

I found her to be a shade too arrogant in Vancouver, but I do hope she can make a full recovery for Sochi. I hope I'm wrong, but other than Mancuso, I don't think the American men's & women's alpine teams have much else in terms of potential medal contenders...

She got a job as an intensive care nurse. She quit because they kept making her answer the phone and say "Picabo, ICU."

Herminator's crash was right up there with Todd Brooker at Kitzbuehel in 1987. Brooker was in the final schuss just seconds from winning the race.

Lavonne "Pepper" Paire-Davis, portrayed by Geena Davis in A League of Their Own, died Saturday at age 88.

Very few of us get to live our life long dreams, let alone see our accomplishments portrayed in a feature film. A film which may be the best sports movie of all time. "Who's Lou?" "I loved you in the Wizard of Oz."

There's no crying in baseball! :)

I heard Horatio from CSI: Miami was sent to investigate the Vonn crash.

"Well, Frank. It seems that for Ms. Vonn."

(Puts on sunglasses)

"It's all downhill."

YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!

I had a couple of T-shirts when we lived in Aspen - one said "My Life is Going Downhill", the other "To Turn is to Admit Defeat!"
