Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I'd take Beaudry over any goalie in the league. I think he's the best.

I agree. Unlike Muse or Hutton, Beaudry did not allow a single goal in the Hockey East playoffs or the NCAA tournament. 0.00 GAA. He may be the best goalie in the world.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Please for the love of Lou Lamoreillo, let Hokydad be right about this.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

To the people saying "PC lost nothing," don't forget that PC has next to nothing to begin with.

john silber quoted bob dylan when running for governor in 1990. francis xavier bellotti was flinging some mad at sibler and during a debate big john said, "when you ain't got nothing, you got nothing left to lose" in shooing frank's commercials away.:p :p

Bellotti !! Francis Xavier no less, a classic, again;) excellent!

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

The popular conception a year ago was that UNH could not finish near the top because they were losing JVR. They find new forwards to step up every year and end up near or at the top of the Hockey East standings.

Agreed.

And UNH has a lot coming back elsewhere. I especially like their defense, something I can't say about Maine. Both teams have unknowns in goal. I haven't completely finished my preseason power rankings yet, but someone picking UNH over Maine is certainly not much of a stretch.

To me, whichever of those two teams gets better goaltending will finish in 2nd.

Their top 6 scoring F's are all back and a year older.

Velischek is a year older and seasoned.

This is all well and good, but every team's returning players are a year older.

This was the basis for my reasoning. ;) What? I want to stir the pot for once, ah to hell with it, I don't care, football is here!

True, point being that UNH's top scorers were not freshmen and sophmores, unless Butler stayed back, recinded his Ottawa contract and is coming in under his little brothers name....

Their top 6 scorers are all back, UNH and BC etc cant say that.

I am not though saying they are going to top those 2 but it is a positive place to build from

This has got to be the biggest reach in modern history...To quote the great Lloyd Christmas, "so you're saying there's a chance..."

I agree that it's a good place to start, but those top six goal totals:

12
12
7
6
3
2

While BC doesn't have their top six forwards back, their top six goal scorers coming back this year:

30
17
16
15
13
9

100-42

A 58 goal difference. BC's 6th best goal scoring forward would be Providence's 3rd.

Just don't like your comparison. I do think that Providence will be better, but can't see them finishing higher than 8th.

Agreed but the beauty of hockey is that a new season is a new season, just ask Maine fans from last year, me included... Everyone had them dead last and was kicking them under the bus pretty hard

We also said scorers, I.e. points not just goals.

Fair enough, but I don't see Providence having anybody like Nyquist. Someone who can carry a team.

Well, that still wouldn't change all that much in my previous post. BC's top six returning forwards are much better than Providence's. Where did you pick PC in the standings this upcoming year?

I have them 5/6, maybe better.

You win from the goal out. Bc is the only team who can win in spite of their goalie. Not a slight on Muse as he is the best playoff goalie in BC's history. Point is with the way they played in frozen four, they could have put Lyles in net in street hockey gear and still would have won.

They dont have a Nyquist but not many do.

Lombardi, Kreider, S Whitney, Price, Carey, Almeida etc all had the same as PC's top 6 and PC's didnt have anywhere close to the supporting cast.

I am not focussing on PC as they are 1 of 3 or 4 interesting teams. MC could be a fun one to watch and if Cannata gets hot, which he will and they wina few on the road, top 4 could get interesting.

Just when you thought Hokydad couldn't say anything dumber...

ps- I bet you fantasize Lyles wearing street hockey gear often, don't you Creeper.
