Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

No, we don't have a deal. It was a joke. I am not a BU fan and am above the age of 12, therefore, will never be asking a college hockey player for his autograph.

How the hell could this bet be done through January? It was a season bet on how many points Da Costa will score. If you win, congrats.

It looks like Hockey East only brings in enough revenue to cover its operating expenses. I'm guessing almost all of the money comes from the HE tourney. Maybe some from NESN?

We can't see it without registering, what's the revenue and costs for Hockey East? I'm also unsurprised, I don't see why Hockey East would make a big profit, the schools are the ones that take most of the money.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Now that the incoming classes and early departures are settled anyone care to update their predictions for the upcoming HE season?

I'm at:

BC
UNH
Maine
UVM
BU
NU
MerriMack
UMASS
UML
PC

UNH and UVM are my surprise picks to the upside although it's hard to call UNH 2nd an upset.

without Butler, UNH will not finish that high. Not sure where but not above Maine..

The popular conception a year ago was that UNH could not finish near the top because they were losing JVR. They find new forwards to step up every year and end up near or at the top of the Hockey East standings.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

And look how far it's gotten them...

Didn't say anything about the playoffs. This discussion was in regards to Hockey East standings, an area where UNH has done quite well the last few years. If we were talking about playoffs, as a UNH fan, I probably wouldn't have weighed in at all :D :p .

And UNH has a lot coming back elsewhere. I especially like their defense, something I can't say about Maine. Both teams have unknowns in goal. I haven't completely finished my preseason power rankings yet, but someone picking UNH over Maine is certainly not much of a stretch.

My question with UNH is how the goaltending situation will hold up. If Matt DiGirolamo or a freshman can step up similar to the way Foster did when Kevin Regan departed the team should do well. They will have to figure this out though because goaltending can certainly win you games, but it can also cost you precious points in the standings.

It certainly is a question mark. However, I'm about to put my optimist hat on. Digirolamo only started on game last season, and looked solid stopping 32 of 35 as the team around him looked lethargic. His ushl numbers were solid as well. Additionally, Tyler Scott has garnered much praise from the players and coaches, and it would not surprise me in the least to see him make the most of any playing time he might get this season. Freshman Jeff Wyer is unlikely to have much of an impact this season, but stranger things have happened.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Here's my order:

BC
Maine
UNH
BU
Merrimack
UVM
NU
UML
UMASS
PC

I think the BU-Merrimack-UVM spots could all be interchangeable...

don't think the early departures are settled yet or incoming freshmen for that matter, teams can just hold their breath........there could still be losses out there. think kenny ryan at BC last year:confused:

These were my picks from page 3 of this thread, I am going to stick with them.

1.) Bc
2.) Me
3.) Unh
4.) Uvm
5.) Bu
6.) Nu
7.) Mc
8.) Uml
9.) Pc
10.) Uma

Althought I think MC and NU could be switched...

Are you serious? I know that's a stupid question but honestly I have to ask...PC is going to finish ahead of NU and MC?

Wow!! Of course with your ESP and your proven ability to predict the rise of Da Costa I'm placing bets in Vegas. I bet those are some good odds...

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I'll go with:

BC
Maine
BU
UNH
Merrimack
UVM
Northeastern
Massachusetts
Mass@Lowell
Providence

I would not be surprised to see MC grab home ice this year, especially if UNH struggles in net like I think they may. Lowell and PC are abyssmal and neither will make the playoffs.

BC and Maine should be at the top with BU playing strong hockey by February to make a run at cracking the top two. UNH fails in the Hockey East playoffs as usual and does not make the NCAAs (much to the dismay of the other 15 teams) :)

I agree that my knowledge is limited but feel confident that it is above that of a village idiot, aka YOU
